Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 627: Chapter 627 Sudden Incident

Trudging through the deep snow, the advance of the First Unit of the West Fifth Army was much smoother than imagined.

Advancing towards East View City, they captured one stronghold after another, with far fewer casualties than in previous years.

The year 414 of the Lux era, December 19th.

Just one or two days’ journey away, the First Unit of the West Fifth Army would arrive at East View City ahead of the other units, taking on the heavy responsibility of establishing the camp.

However, crises always arrive unnoticed and quietly.

To coordinate the various units and achieve the goal of retaking the plains together, Wansheng Country’s armies relied on magicians to maintain regular encrypted communications.

Yesterday, the Lu Hua Army held discussions with other generals and learned about the situation on other fronts.

On the eastern front, especially the East Second Army, they took advantage of an unexplained breach in the city wall and broke through all the way into the enemy’s camp, where fierce firefights ensued, and the situation is now at a standstill.

On the central front, after a long march, the Central Recovery Army of Wansheng Country also noticed the Luo Ze Empire rapidly contracting their front.

However, fearing that Wansheng Country would use the expanse of the plains to outflank and envelop their troops, cutting off their retreat, the central front dare not advance too quickly, leaving behind many garrisons along the way.

Of course, numerous generals were dissatisfied with this decision.

“I think those humans are just being cowardly. Now we should concentrate all our forces and crush them like cracking an egg, to show them the true strength of the beastmen.”

Despite the opinions of these minorities, they ultimately could not change the decisions made by the majority of the generals.

This year was too unusual.

Although in previous years, the Luo Ze Empire would also contract their front, this year they did it so aggressively, as if they’d completely abandoned the entire plain. The Central Recovery Army almost effortlessly took back several major cities on the plains.

Without knowing what strategy the Luo Ze Empire was adopting, it was better to be cautious to avoid falling into their trap.

As for the West Fifth Army…

Apart from the extremely successful First Unit, the other two units lagged behind to varying degrees.

As feared by the Lu Hua Army, humans were building fortifications much faster than expected, and they had already positioned many weapons on the city walls.

Some of these definitely covered the marching direction and cities targeted by the Third Division of the West Fifth Army.

If they marched according to the original plan, their flank would inevitably be subject to attacks from the Luo Ze garrison on the city walls. After consideration, the general leading the Third Division of the West Fifth Army decided to change course temporarily, resulting in significant delays.

The conditions of the Second Division of the West Fifth Army were no better, burdened with containing the large city garrison that brazenly drilled troops on the city walls despite the frigid cold.

It was as if they were deliberately practicing for the Wansheng scouts to see.

Occasionally, the Luo Ze Empire would make a “real” move, directing their troops to march out as if they were heading to a genuine battlefield.

At that time, the Second Division of the West Fifth Army would be on high alert, ready to contain the enemy, only to find that those soldiers simply marched around the fields and returned.

Such incidents occurred not just once or twice. After many such occurrences, the Second Division of the West Fifth Army became jittery and nervous.

Some commanders could no longer restrain themselves, wanting to drag out the humans who put on such a show and beat them senseless in the snow, to stop them from idly wandering around.

Unfortunately, these humans were too close to the occupied cities, and it was extremely convenient for them to retreat or seek reinforcements.

The Second Division suffered greatly under this tactic of the Luo Ze Empire.

Back and forth, the progress of the Second Division of the West Fifth Army in executing their task was also significantly slowed down.

By conservative estimates, it would take the Second and Third Divisions of the West Fifth Army a full week to regroup and launch an attack on East View City together.

It’s worth mentioning that, in view of the excellent performance of the First Unit of the West Fifth Army, the National Guardian General had already approved that the First Unit, upon reaching East View City, could rely on judgment to initiate an attack on East View City.

At the time, there was no trace of joy on the face of the Lu Hua Army.

According to past Experience, the forces deployed by the Luo Ze Empire to East View City would account for more than one-third of the total forces sent to the entire Long Boots Region.

The First Unit led by the Lu Hua Army, after accounting for the soldiers guarding the fruits of victory and those removing Strongholds to establish new ones at key locations, plus subtracting the numbers of the fallen, only about twenty thousand remained.

East View City was easy to defend but hard to attack, even in winter; with so few troops, attacking East View City would be like an egg smashing against a rock.

The National Guardian General did not make it a rigid requirement to retake East View City. He granted the Lu Hua Army the right to adapt to the situation, which means they could choose to attack or not to attack at all.

The Lu Hua Army had already decided that if there was no alternative, they would try to attack.

After all, if they failed, in winter, the heavily bundled human soldiers would struggle to control the plains.

However, before the West Fifth Army could progress to East View City, just the next day, a slew of messages shattered his illusions about attacking East View City.

“Report, an elite force from the Luo Ze Empire has emerged from nowhere and has launched surprise attacks on various Strongholds and recaptured cities. Our fruits of victory have been snatched away again! Requesting support.”

“Report, the enemy is extremely strong, and must be at least of A-grade or above.”

Before his words even faded, the soldier using the Crystal Ball to communicate with the Lu Hua Army was sliced in half by a Sharp knife, and blood spilled over the Crystal Ball, severing the communication completely.

Such an incident had never occurred before.

Sensing the urgency of the situation, the Lu Hua Army hurriedly commanded to contact the National Guardian General of Wansheng Country, and unexpectedly, the other two divisions of the West Fifth Army encountered similar situations.

A group of powerful soldiers, wearing light clothing, moved across the snowfields and launched surprise attacks on several cities and Strongholds. The casualties in the rear were incalculable.

And that group was still continuously active; the rear division alone could not withstand their relentless Assaults.

Upon learning this news, the brows of the Lu Hua Army furrowed deeply; Wansheng Country had actually used such a move.

How exactly did the Luo Ze Empire manage to deploy these elite troops to the battlefield?

Did they come over from the other side of the wall? Or did they disguise themselves as regular soldiers among the city garrisons? Or, had they built a Teleportation Magic Array at some hidden location?

Regardless, this situation could not be ignored.

If those elites continue to remove Strongholds one by one, the supply troops’ subsequent actions would be constrained, affecting the attack on East View City.
