Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 618: Chapter 618 This is an extremely bold guess

Lux Calendar, 414 December 12.

Luo Ze Empire Capital, in the war council room, Emperor Luo Hui Qimia Luoze listened to the proceeding of the war council.

He was dressed in a red cloak, with a delicate beard on his jaw, his red hair having turned slightly white with the passage of time, and his face, imposing and authoritative, was filled with displeasure.

If you wonder why, it was all because, during their change from offense to defense, a series of bizarre and incomprehensible events had taken place.

“The East Second Army of Wansheng Country launched a fierce attack on the damaged city walls.

Many magicians resisted strenuously, but the group of beastmen, even after crossing the icy river, continued as if nothing had happened, disregarding the cold to launch a harsh attack.

Fortunately, the spot they attacked was not far from where our troops were stationed, and we managed to successfully intercept them, quite effectively pushing them back from the breach with just a little more support,” said General Wayne Jason.

“Now, to send support would be meaningless, as Rakasile River is nearly completely frozen, just a heavy snowfall away.

At that point, Wansheng Country will launch a powerful strong attack across the plains.

The pressure on the central frontline battlefield will be unprecedented.

It’s expected to face retreat after retreat for some time.

When the beastmen think they have won their initial victory and grow complacent, that’s when we can change from defense to offense, completely shattering their dreams of conquest.

Hence, it’s impossible for us to send reinforcements.

Tell them to hold their ground.”

General Walsh Eden lightly stroked his white mustache and made the decision.

The attending generals looked at one another and engaged in a heated discussion, eventually agreeing with General Walsh Eden’s proposal; Emperor Luo Hui nodded,

“Proceed as General Walsh suggests. Walsh, what about the matter I asked you to confirm?”

Walsh Eden pondered for a moment before replying, “According to my daughter, the items she transported as rewards were fine.

The Eldest Prince conducted inspections, found no problems, and then had them sent to the front.

Upon verification, aside from the batch delivered specifically for boots, the rewards delivered elsewhere are intact and no suspicious magic residues were found.

It seems unlikely that tampering occurred during transportation.”

“Is that so?”

Emperor Luo Hui let out a deep sigh. The Luo Ze Empire had many opportunities to end this war, but each time they were about to execute a key strategy, something unexpected happened, delaying their tactics.

More infuriating was that to this day, the Luo Ze Empire still hadn’t identified any behind-the-scenes mastermind nor understood their motives or the means by which they had evaded detection to sabotage them from behind.

If he could ever catch the mastermind behind these mysterious incidents, Emperor Luo Hui wouldn’t hesitate to tear them to pieces.

After all, this time, those masterminds had already targeted their people, who knows if the mastermind would disrupt the battle at a critical moment.

“Have the investigative teams found out anything about the sudden death of the Sicakun squad?”

Emperor Luo Hui turned his gaze toward a dignified and graceful woman who was not a general but the head of the intelligence department, named Liu Qi.

Her investigative division was directly subordinate to her, independent of all other units.

In addition to providing intelligence for the war, Liu Qi’s department was also responsible for collecting all major domestic intelligence, meaning whatever Emperor wanted to know, she could provide.

Relying on the intelligence department she had nurtured, she was typically extremely successful, but this time Liu Qi also faced difficulties,

“Your Majesty, to be honest, the situation this time is very bad. As we know, the Sicakun squad only barely managed to complete their task.

Facing a group of new recruits, they were not satisfied with just such results.

Following the intelligence we provided, after leaving the danger zone, they planned to coordinate with the people at the Qinghe Volcano Front using a pincer strategy from inside and outside.

But before the operation had even begun, it had already turned into such a mess.

We conducted an investigation on their bodies and found no external injuries; everyone was emaciated, as if they hadn’t eaten for several days.

I organized a team to perform autopsies on them and found that they indeed hadn’t eaten for days, and…”

As Liu Qi spoke, he seemed to have difficulty continuing,

“And what…”

“And, based on the information we know, it seems they engaged in indecent acts amongst themselves.”

Upon hearing this, the entire room was shocked, and turmoil ensued. Luo Hui raised his hand to quell the disturbance and asked seriously,

“Is everything you said true?”

Liu Qi nodded, “Based on my preliminary judgment, they must have been under some kind of illusion technique that made them see each other as women…”

Luo Hui fell into deep thought. Setting aside whether such an illusion technique that could cause widespread hallucinations even exists, Emperor Luo Hui could already identify two doubts,

“Wait a second, I have two doubts about what you said.

Firstly, why would they be emaciated? Our troops are all robust, and even if they starved for a few days, it wouldn’t be possible for them to become emaciated.

Moreover, why did they die in that manner? Logically speaking, making the troops kill each other would have been more efficient, wouldn’t it?”

“As Emperor Your Majesty suggested, this is also the doubt I can’t understand. I’ve consulted a significant amount of literature, and there’s only one scenario that might cause this, but it’s too absurd. I’m unsure whether I should report it to Your Majesty.”

Liu Qi hesitated, while Luo Hui firmly said,

“Speak, no matter what the possibility is, I want to know.”

With Emperor’s permission, Liu Qi shared his thoughts, “According to the documents I found, only one creature could cause such a result—the Enchanting Demon of the Demon Clan.

They survive by absorbing men’s vitality. Overconsumption indeed results in bodies appearing emaciated.

Only this assumption perfectly resolves Your Majesty’s doubts.”

Everyone in the room once again showed expressions of surprise.

They were also aware of the news from Serti about the impending arrival of the Demon King, which is why the hierarchy decided to end this war as soon as possible.

Luo Hui’s brows were tightly knitted as he asked, “Has the Demon Clan already started their incursion?”

“There’s that possibility, but the prophecies of the Great Sages from past generations have never been wrong, and this time should be no exception. The Demon King should still arrive in accordance with what the Great Sage has prophesied.”

Liu Qi said,

“Therefore, Your Majesty, I have a bold guess.

It might be that the Demon King is testing the performance of the Gate of Demon World, only sending low-ranking Enchanting Demons into this world.

The Demon King City might function like a sort of teleportation point.

Usually, teleportation magic needs a set point to prevent being sent elsewhere, which I have already confirmed with Lord Latis.

Having lost the traditional foothold, the Demon King must also be worried about whether the Gate of Demon World can open and operate normally.”
