Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 606: Chapter 606: The Decision of the Goddess Sect

Time slowly elapsed as Yang Yu and his companions trekked on foot toward the front lines.

In the Holy City of Helogig, the deciding council of bishops convened in the conference hall to discuss the matter of Saintess Feng Yu.

When the Holy Maiden set out, they had assigned numerous powerful priests to accompany her. According to the records of the Goddess Sect, there were almost no precedents of a Holy Maiden dying during her ceremonial tour. Even if abducted by the Demon King, she would return to pass on the Power of the Goddess to her successor.

But…

Saintess Feng Yu had failed to arrive at the church where she was scheduled to be according to the plan.

Feeling something amiss, the church sent envoys to the Holy City of Helogig to inquire whether the itinerary of the Holy Maiden had changed.

It was not until this point that the headquarters of the Goddess Sect realized the gravity of the situation; they tried contacting the Saintess, but all attempts were futile.

After a meticulous investigation, the Goddess Sect’s headquarters identified the areas where the Holy Maiden might have encountered an accident, and they found signs of conflict in some places. However, they were unable to confirm the current status of the Holy Maiden.

“I believe that the Holy Maiden must still be alive. If we don’t rescue her in time, the legacy of the Power of the Goddess could be interrupted, the consequences of which are unimaginable.

I propose we mobilize all the followers of the Goddess Sect that we can contact, to search for the Saintess as thoroughly as possible.”

An elderly bishop with a long white beard made the suggestion, but it was quickly opposed by the other bishops.

“Bishop Moss, I disagree. If we are this flustered, believers will be struck with unprecedented dismay and become panic-stricken.

Before we reach a definitive conclusion, we should investigate this covertly and ascertain the facts.”

“I agree with what the Bishop of Serarolan has said. The disappearance of the Holy Maiden is a major event. Publicly divulging what we know now will only invite unnecessary trouble. I believe we must at least investigate who dared to lay hands on the Saintess.”

“Do we even need to investigate?” A plump middle-aged woman raised her scepter, striking the conference hall floor with force, “This is definitely the work of the Curse Sect.

Apart from this organization that blasphemes the goddess all day, I cannot think of any other organization or individual who would dare attack the Saintess during her tour.

Only such brainless sects would do such a thing.

They are just courting trouble with the whole world.

If only these sects stayed active underground, drawing in some equally foolish people as believers, indiscriminately extorting money, and indulging in their desires in the shadows.

How had they ventured down this path to commit such an atrocity, igniting the wrath of gods and men alike?

Such people would deserve to suffer in Hell a thousand times over.”

“Cough, Bishop Shim Lisa, mind your demeanor; this is a conference, please do not let your emotions override professionalism.”

The bishop holding the greatest scepter, Ussiger, spoke up,

“If it really is the doing of the Curse Sect, their meticulousness and capability have already exceeded our imagination.

They may be even more dangerous than we have anticipated.

We do not know why they would strike at the Saintess so stealthily and silently.

This has never happened before, and we must prepare for the worst.”

“So, what do we do now?” Shim Lisa lifted her scepter again, slamming it into the floor with vigor, “Just waiting will inevitably lead to exposure.

Since it will be exposed sooner or later, we might as well do as Bishop Moss suggested and mobilize all devout believers to investigate and uncover the Curse Sect, who are like rats scurrying in the streets and shrouded in stealth, and to use all our strength to eradicate them at once.”

“Believers cannot be mobilized. If possible, we must keep this affair hidden as long as we can, the sudden occurrence so shortly after the Saintess departed from the Holy City will certainly cause many to waiver in their faith.”

Ussiger clenched her scepter,

“Once everything has been investigated, if the Saintess can return safely, let her continue her journey as if nothing had happened.

But if any misfortune has befallen the Saintess, we shall say, ‘The goddess nobly died saving lives, she appeared before the Saintess asking if she regretted her actions…’

Simply put, it was the goddess’s test for the Saintess, who made the correct decision, ultimately gaining the approval of the goddess, and ascended to become an Angel serving the goddess.

Contact the Royal Family of Luoze, implying that the priests accompanying the Saintess might have encountered some mishap, and urging the Luoze Empire to lend their strength to the Goddess Sect in finding the missing priests.

As soon as they find any clues, we can take over the investigation.

This is the best course of action I can think of for now. Do any of the bishops present have objections?

If so, I hope you can offer more constructive suggestions. If not, let us proceed as I have outlined.”

The conference hall plunged into silence, the bishops present pondered deeply but could think of no better solution and merely shook their heads before nodding in agreement with Ussiger’s proposal.

Tasks were allocated among the bishops present, and several points of caution were emphasized before Ussiger declared the meeting adjourned.

But before the assembly could disperse, a priest hurried over in long strides and reverently handed a letter to Ussiger.

It was a message from the Village of Heroes, bearing the signature of the Great Sage.

“Everyone, please hold on a moment; there’s another urgent matter we need to discuss.”

Heroic Warrior Volcrix stood in the grand cathedral of the Goddess Sect’s headquarters, carelessly flicking through the system panel.

He had planned on becoming stronger before visiting the Goddess Sect, seeking companions he fancied, to join him in the battle against the Demon King.

Unexpectedly, halfway there, such a scenario unfolded.

After receiving the special emergency task, Volcrix rushed to the Luoze Empire with the intention of making a spectacular entrance, rescuing the Saintess, and then completing the pilgrimage with her, naturally becoming companions.

But as soon as he set foot in the Luoze Empire, he received a mission failure notification: this country’s Saintess was already dead.

Not even waiting for my heroic entry, she selfishly died on her own, that Saintess must not have been such an important character—not someone fated to join my team as a divinely destined true maiden.

Thinking this way, Volcrix handed the letter he received from the Village of Heroes to the priest there, and had the priest pass it on to the bishop.

Since he was here, adding the pure little priest to his team sooner was a pleasant idea.

It would also give her a good look at his unbeatable valor. Indeed, Otherworld life was straightforward. With the powers granted by the goddess, living felt like playing with cheat codes.

Volcrix flicked his red cape back, a confident smile on his face.

The only blemish now was the encounter with the strange boy at the All Things Library. He resolved that the next time they met, he would definitively clarify his identity.

It was then that Ussiger appeared in front of Volcrix. Without further ado, she spoke:

“Young Hero, I’m honored to meet you. I have a rather difficult request concerning the very survival of the Goddess Sect that I hope you will entertain.”
