High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2449: Chapter 670: Third-Party Task

Regarding the suggestion from Councillor Su, Zheng Qing naturally declined with thanks.

It’s not that he’s afraid of anything; it’s mainly because it’s only two days since the official start of school, and he’s already taken ten courses. Although most of these courses haven’t started assigning homework yet, the courses that do have assignments and the preparatory content for nearly twenty remaining classes have already left him exhausted.

And with five more courses tomorrow, including History of Magic and Classical Rituals that require a lot of memorization, Zheng Qing didn’t want to waste half an hour on the road after getting up tomorrow.

Absolutely not afraid of anything!

The young teaching assistant silently repeated this sentence in his heart, lifted his head, and just as he was about to speak, he saw the big fox on the rooftop flick its tail, and its figure instantly vanished without a trace, leaving only a lingering echo in the empty night sky: ”If you don’t want to come, then forget it. If you have the guts, never come for the rest of your life!”

These words left the boy speechless and at a loss.

Korma watched this scene with a smile, saw the warlock turn his head, and quickly raised his hand, waving slightly with a hint of regret in his tone: ”Since you don’t want to go to Councillor Su’s place, you must think even less of my little tavern... it’s already so late, do you need me to take you back to school?”

The warlock shook his head very slowly, still not recovering from the lingering effects of the big fox’s disappearance.

But Korma didn’t give him more time to think. Seeing his refusal, Korma’s smile faded, she snorted, vaguely muttering words like ’scumbag’, then turned around and also disappeared without a trace.

Leaving someone standing in the chilly street, watching the bustling learning scene inside the tavern, caught off guard.

He looked around.

Luckily, as it was already late at night, there were no pedestrians on the street.

Then he lowered his head, looking at the furry bean that had just sneaked over from the shadows—the moment the big fox appeared, this dog had vanished in a flash at the corner—and sighed deeply: ”No wonder the Master said, ’Women and petty persons are difficult to nurture...’

Crack!

A thin lightning bolt fell out of nowhere, striking the warlock on the head, instantly jolting him.

Meow~

The furry bean gave the boy a sympathetic look and curled its tail around his ankle to show comfort.

The little incident that happened that Tuesday night in this quiet corner didn’t have any obvious impact on Zheng Qing’s life. If anything had to be said, it was that night, after refusing Su Shijun’s suggestion and returning from the North District, Zheng Qing always felt as if there were eyes watching him in the dark, making the hairs on his back stand on end.

But the furry bean never noticed anything unusual. And the little green snake residing in the warlock’s head seemed to be hibernating, no matter how much he shouted and cried out inside, it remained silent.

It wasn’t until he entered the school grounds that the feeling of something like a thorn in his back suddenly disappeared.

Zheng Qing thought for a long time but couldn’t pinpoint a suspect.

The main issue was that there were too many people who wanted to see him fail, and too many who were inquiring about his whereabouts—for example, Councillor Su’s fervent fans. Although the frequency had decreased, they never stopped ’attacking’ Zheng Qing, and he was always worried about when he’d be hit again; or those ravens, although both the school and the Alliance believed they were all caught without any trace left, Zheng Qing still felt things weren’t that simple, and during the winter vacation, he even killed a black wizard, so who knows if there are any apprentices or followers wanting to cause him trouble; and then there were journalists from newspapers like the Beta Town Post, the paper cranes inviting him for interviews hadn’t stopped these days.

Of course, there’s also the biggest suspect: the one who struck him with lightning that night.

It’s just that Zheng Qing didn’t have the time or the courage to confront that suspect face-to-face.

The next day was Wednesday.

When he was doing his morning course, Xiao Xiao immediately noticed the strand of singed yellow hair on Zheng Qing’s forehead, feeling surprised: ”I remember you said yesterday evening was a ’Mo Lu Studies’ class... since when did they start playing with fire during Mo Lu Studies?”

Ink Talisman belongs to the Yin attribute talisman, rarely causing thunder fire or other extremely Yang talisman effects.

Zheng Qing couldn’t admit the fact of being struck by lightning, so he could only say some vague things like ’talisman painting’s issues’ ’people make mistakes’ and ’disaster from heaven’ to make excuses.

If it were Xin Fat Man, he might have passed off with Zheng Qing’s cover-up.

But Xiao Xiao simply examined the singed yellow hair closely and began to mock with certainty: ”It truly is ’disaster from heaven’, the red spot from the lightning strike under your hair is still there... I’ve seen hair singed by talismans, but I’ve never seen it leave a red mark when singed by a talisman.”

Zheng Qing’s face stiffened, instinctively reaching to touch that tuft of singed hair.

A faint needle-like sting came from his scalp.

Then he noticed Doctor Xiao’s neatly styled hair today, and his eyes lit up: ”What did you apply to your hair today? Hair oil? Hair gel? Mousse? Whatever it is, lend me some...”

”Someone like you who’s invisible all day, who’d see if you applied anything?” Doctor Xiao looked at him with disdain: ”Or, are you trying to have the strong smell of hair gel expose your location? I certainly wouldn’t mind. But I thought even if you went to class bald, no one would notice...”

Though the words are harsh, the reasoning is sound.

Zheng Qing’s face turned dull, still trying to salvage some dignity when suddenly he felt something in the grey cloth bag twitch and instinctively reached in, pulling out a ruby ring.

It’s the identity ring of the Seven Sins.

He blinked, his finger brushed the gemstone on the ring, and an extremely faint stream of information followed his fingertip. Zheng Qing thought for a moment, and the dull expression quickly vanished, replaced by one of mixed oddity and astonishment.

This expression naturally aroused Xiao Xiao’s curiosity.

”Has something happened?”

He tightened his belt, glanced at the time, and added: ”We have ten more minutes of free time; if it’s not particularly troublesome, I can help you check the crystal ball.”

”It’s not exactly troublesome,” Zheng Qing hesitated, finally explaining with a somewhat bitter smile: ”It’s just a third-party task request, hoping the Seven Sins will help collect some biological materials from Zheng Qing, skin, fur, and flesh, anything goes... the commission is very generous... very, very generous...”

Zheng Qing had reason to believe that if it weren’t for the ’military supply contract’ he made with the Trident Sword after the New Year that bolstered his wallet, he might have gritted his teeth and willingly sent his hair for them to study.

At most, he’d have nightmares for a month.

If it were a month ago, had he received such an offer to trade a month’s worth of nightmares for a hundred jade coins, he probably wouldn’t even have furrowed his brow. Maybe while dreaming at night of being chased by giants, he’d actually laugh in his sleep.

But now the situation is a bit delicate.

Because he’s no longer short on money.
