High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2423: Chapter 644: First Class Meeting of the Second Semester of Sophomore Year

The ”interview” with the relevant department ended at six in the afternoon.

After Baoyangzi left, Old Yao only sent Jiang Yu out of the office first, leaving Zheng Qing behind. The young scholarship student clutched the pocket watch in his pocket, thoughts racing.

Even though he was very familiar with it already, being alone in a room with a legendary-ranked Great Demon still made him a bit uneasy.

”Phew...”

The professor bit on his pipe, took a deep breath, and exhaled two thick streams of smoke from his nose like a fire dragon just waking up. He looked leisurely at the young man behind the desk, kind and amiable: ”How does it feel? Is it difficult?”

Zheng Qing guessed he was asking about the class they just had.

”It was okay, I could understand it.”

He scratched his head and smiled embarrassedly—in fact, he couldn’t quite tell if he was genuinely shy or just pretending to be, often just instinctively putting on the familiar mask.

”As long as you can understand it.”

Old Yao apparently didn’t care about the young wizard’s facade, puffing on his pipe and nodding slightly: ”School is different from the outside world. Using the Time Converter within the campus is actually very safe, so you shouldn’t feel too pressured.”

Zheng Qing mulled over the idea that Old Yao probably didn’t keep him behind just to say these few cliché words.

”These are not just trivial words.”

The esteemed headmaster of Jiuyou Academy lifted his eyelids, glanced at the young man, and said with a smile: ”I’m telling you not to feel too pressured when using the Time Converter because I hope you can attend each elective class diligently and graduate stably in advance... Only when you achieve enough honors at First University—simple scholarship or Great Arcana title is not enough, you need more specific and enriching experiences, such as capturing Black Wizards, hunting Demons on the arrest warrant, or graduating two years early—all these will be recorded by the Alliance Observers, giving you a chance at a higher starting point and a brand-new beginning after graduation. All these efforts are the foundation to becoming a qualified ’agent.’”

Zheng Qing silently cast a few more mental defense spells on himself.

For some reason, when Old Yao finished speaking, he seemed to hear the faint mocking laughter of a Yellow Flowered Cat from some corner.

But when he turned his head, the corner was empty, not a sign of cat hair.

Turning back, the headmaster of Jiuyou Academy was looking at him with eager eyes.

”I will do my best.”

The young wizard muttered, pondering the professor’s words a moment before asking: ”What did you mean by ’Alliance Observers’ just now?”

”Not ’observation’ in the divination sense.” Old Yao seemed to know what he was thinking, waving his hand to disperse the accumulating smoke, explaining simply: ”Although your ’agent’ identity does not need to be approved by the Alliance, it will draw their attention... Great Wizard Conference, Wizard Council, Moon Council, Danghag, Trident Sword, and so on, all eyes will be on your past... Ah, it’s here.”

He abruptly ended his explanation, reached into the air to grab a piece of parchment, and stuffed it under Zheng Qing’s nose.

”This is a hazardous magical creature reporting document, just prepared by the School Works Committee. Sign it.” The headmaster of Jiuyou Academy removed the pipe from his mouth and tapped the table with the pipe stem, as if explaining or emphasizing: ”Your dog has Tingdalous hound blood, very dangerous, make sure to keep it in check and don’t let it bite people randomly... whether students or professors!”

He pronounced the word ”professors” with particular clarity.

Zheng Qing immediately recalled instructing Furry Bean to bite the previous Great Arcana ’World’ Professor Trudeau last year, and couldn’t help but lower his head guiltily.

The ink on the parchment was still fresh, seemingly ready to smudge if touched.

The young man carefully signed his name at the end of the reporting document—from now on, Furry Bean was a dog with credentials, no longer a stray dog—the thought flashed through his mind, bringing a bit of comfort.

Then, in the next second, he was thrown back to dormitory 403 by the professor.

When he got up from the ground, dizzy, he found the dormitory empty, Xiao Xiao was already gone. Next to Xin Fat Man’s bed was a pile of luggage, with Tuan Tuan rummaging through it with its large behind sticking out.

Zheng Qing pulled out his pocket watch and checked the time.

It was already six-thirty in the afternoon, with less than half an hour left until the class meeting. Considering the distance between the dormitory and the teaching building, he couldn’t help but complain internally why Old Yao didn’t just throw him directly into classroom 601.

”If you find something good to eat, save me some!”

Zheng Qing shouted this to the Fat Cat, then turned around and rushed out of the dormitory, heading quickly to the teaching building.

Compared to the previous days’ emptiness and quiet, today the campus was suddenly lively, as if overnight everyone had returned to school, and the whole academy was rapidly springing back to life.

Just like the spring scenery on campus, which was also quickly reviving. Fresh buds sprouted from the plane trees lining the leafy roads, new flower buds appeared among the bushes, and the twin-tailed squirrels on the branches lazily peeked out—scenes Zheng Qing felt he hadn’t seen when he visited the Cat Fruit Tree the night before.

When he stumbled into the classroom, there were still ten minutes before the class meeting was to start. The familiar clamor of the class was audible from far away.

He caught his breath and pushed the door open.

The noise abruptly ceased, and almost everyone turned to look at him in unison; the warlocks waggled their eyebrows, and the witches wore scrutinizing looks. No expression resembled a normal welcome for an old classmate, and even the lazy shout from the stick figure behind the door, ’Young Master of Green Hills is here,’ didn’t divert anyone’s attention.

Zheng Qing glanced at the first row, surprised to find Jiang Yu had yet to arrive.

However, Li Meng was there, sneering at him.

The warlock was momentarily clueless—unsure whether it was the Black Wizard he defeated over the holiday that surprised his classmates, or news of him soon receiving the Merlin Gold Medal had leaked, or perhaps some new rumor had sprung up at school. Regardless, he had built a strong immunity to those looks.

”Good evening! I missed you all!!” He exaggeratedly waved his arms and greeted everyone, but unfortunately, the wizards couldn’t get non-magical world jokes, making the young scholarship student’s greeting sound a tad awkward.

A plump figure darted out from the aisle with unusual agility, grabbing Zheng Qing’s arm and dragging him to a corner of the classroom.

”I heard you’re planning on graduating early?”

Xin Fat Man pinned Zheng Qing into a seat, beaming, with gossip written all over his greasy face: ”And with Jiang Da Headmaster too? Does Su Councilor know about this? Are you planning to publicly two-time? Aren’t you afraid of being hit in the head? Truly Mr. Zha, that’s what you are!”

He gestured thumbs up, almost poking them into Zheng Qing’s eyes.
