High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2443: Chapter 664: The First Second of Eternity

Zheng Qing is a very reasonable person.

Therefore, when it comes to ’unreasonable’ rumors, he has nothing to say.

However, the spread of rumors didn’t subside due to Zheng Qing’s passivity and endurance; instead, it became more rampant.

By noon, the news about Zheng Qing planning to graduate early, riding the wave of ’teaching assistant’ news, gradually spread to a wider audience and generated new rumors. According to those magical tales, Su Shijun wanted to create a perfect on-campus record for Zheng Qing by letting him serve as student union president for a semester, or even the captain of the school hunting team and Sacred Will’s Lei Zhe.

”Of course, not everyone thinks you’ll become the student union president.”

In the dorm room, Xin Fat Man brought Zheng Qing news, unclear if good or bad: ”A considerable number of people believe you prefer the position of Club Union president... Oh, by the way, dear Brother Qing, if you plan to be the captain of the school hunting team, would the position of Atonement Hunting Team leader be vacant? May I recommend myself? I believe that as one of the second-order battle array cores and founders of the hunting team, I am capable enough to be the Atonement captain!”

Zheng Qing, with a dark face, lay on his desk, observing a few small sprites still asleep in the sunflower dish, catching sight of the animatedly talking Fat Wizard beside him, his mind inexplicably flashed to a book where the master was captured and the pig-head planned a breakup meal.

The two chubby figures gradually merged into one in his mind.

He chuckled softly, feeling a bit better, and then weakly groaned: ”Atonement originally had two main hunters; if you want to compete for the next captain, first find a way to convince Zhang Ji Xin... when will he return?”

The night before last, during a class meeting, Zhang Ji Xin sent news that he was dragon hunting with his brother in the North Sea—his brother, who was also Lei Zhe, hadn’t returned to school yet, which might be why some rumors about the Sacred Will started to spread.

Zheng Qing had reason to believe that Alpha’s hypocrites aided the rampant spread of these rumors.

”At the latest, by the weekend, but I think he might arrive at school tomorrow or the day after.”

Xiao Xiao was playing with a set of divination tokens on the opposite side of the table, scrutinizing the uneven sticks, adjusting his glasses slightly: ”...Dylan’s arrival shouldn’t be far behind the Elders either, probably within the week.”

Zheng Qing sighed deeply, inadvertently closing his eyes.

The next second, he felt someone shaking his arm hard.

”I’ll just sleep here, don’t shake me.”

He mumbled, trying to lift his arm to swat away the hand shaking him, but a dense stabbing pain ran from his fingertips to his elbow, making him hiss with a sharp intake of breath, awakening.

”If I don’t shake you, you’ll be late.” Xin Fat Man rubbed his fingers, snapping crisply in front of Zheng Qing’s eyes, trying to rouse him more: ”Teaching Assistant Mister, it’s already one thirty in the afternoon!”

Only then did Zheng Qing realize that unknowingly, he had already slept for over an hour!

Yet it felt like only a second had passed since he was last awake!

The chaotic thoughts involuntarily reminded him of the concept of the ’eternal second’: a mountain made of diamonds, reaching the top takes a month, circling it takes another month; every hundred years, a bird comes to sharpen its beak on the diamond mountain, and when the entire mountain is worn flat, just the first second of eternity has passed.

Zheng Qing didn’t know if the souls in hell experienced every second as long; but thinking about living through such tormented days for another semester, he felt like his entire life was in darkness.

He must find a way to perk himself up a little.

The Warlock raised the arm that hadn’t gone numb, pounded his skull, rubbed his forehead, struggling to recall the last moment before losing consciousness.

”I remember in the morning’s Divination class, Professor Yi mentioned something related to dreaming about temples,” the young teaching assistant rubbed his forehead, scrunching his face: ”...what was it again?”

Because, after Divination class, he had another session of ’Second-Order Battle Array Theory’ through time conversion, so in fact, his distance from the last divination class was further than that of his dorm mates, making his memory blur quite understandably.

”The ancients said, ’All encounters with great hall temple dreams are auspicious’.” Xiao Xiao casually replied.

”Ah, right, right, that’s it!” Zheng Qing immediately beamed, feeling that this was perhaps the best news he’d heard since the semester began—a truly despairing statistic—: ”...Before I woke up, it seemed I was sitting in a resplendent temple, preaching scripture to people below!”

The two dorm mates looked at each other.

Both showed sympathy.

Finally, Doctor Xiao lightly coughed and took the lead to speak.

”As they say, ’day reflections result in night dreams’.” The short-statured Warlock adjusted his glasses, kindly reminded.

The Fat Wizard followed suit, chiming in: ”In this morning’s Divination class, you vaguely heard terms like ’hall temple dreams, all auspicious,’ dreaming of a temple during a nap is quite a natural development.”

”Coincidentally, you are about to teach the Edge Academy students,” Xiao Xiao continued to add: ”Lecturing in class, preaching in a temple... compare them? Aren’t they very similar?”

”So...” The Fat Wizard shrugged, pulling a comical face.

The smile on Zheng Qing’s face visibly dissipated.

He shook his hand, still feeling somewhat numb.

”You guys should have let me enjoy a few more minutes of happiness.”

The teaching assistant muttered, struggling to push himself up, wobbling step by step toward the washroom, humming all the while: ”Where has all the time gone, just as sleep picks up, it’s already wake-up time, studying and attending classes all day, full of spells and divination and talismans, where has all the time gone, just as I pick up a book, my eyes get blurry... oh, you two, go grab seats for me first, I’ll be right there! Still at the Elders’ spot!”

Bam!

The washroom door closed heavily in the sight of the Fat Wizard.

”Shall we go first then?”

Xin Fat Man uncertainly turned to look at Xiao Xiao: ”With him looking so dazed... is it okay to leave him alone in the dorm!”

”He won’t die.” Xiao Xiao fiddled with a stack of Tarot Cards, not raising his head: ”Isn’t Tuan Tuan still home? If worst comes to worst, those little sprites will deliver messages.”

Purr!

The Fat Cat, sprawled on the Fat Wizard’s pillow, approvingly flicked its tail. A few lively sprites flew around its tail, playing joyfully.

The Fat Wizard sighed and tugged on his waistband, heading for the door, his tone tinged with pity: ”Even if planning to graduate early, I would never schedule myself thirty classes a week... living like this is just too pitiful...”

”Perhaps that’s why he has three or four wives, while you have none. If you don’t push yourself to the limit, how do you know how many wives you can win?” Doctor Xiao, like a buzzing hornet, mockingly poked the back of the Fat Wizard’s head.

The fat man was furious.

More enraged was Zheng Qing.

”I! Do! Not! Have! Three! Or! Four!”

The young teaching assistant roared from within the washroom, his voice scarily eerie: ”You two! If I hear such nonsensical rumors outside, I won’t let you off!”

Bang!

Accompanied by the roar, the washroom door was wrenched open, Zheng Qing, with a head full of foam, charged into the dorm, eyes squinting, searching around fiercely.

Unsurprisingly, the two chatterboxes had already fled.
