High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2433: Chapter 654: The Absentee

At the beginning of the school year, professors are always particularly lenient.

When Zheng Qing and his group hurried into the classroom, there were less than five minutes left before class started, but Old Yao hadn’t arrived yet, and the atmosphere in the classroom was particularly lively. The joy of reunion after the holiday mixed with the big news of the establishment of the new academy provided everyone with ample topics for gossip.

Unlike the timid and restrained newspaper editors, young wizards are never afraid to point fingers at the world and make bold gestures. Moreover, the special status of First University gives these young people in the ivory tower a particularly broad perspective. Although their views are not deep, they are extremely sharp, very keenly detecting the currents and turbulent undercurrents hidden beneath the calm surface after the establishment of the new academy.

These ’undercurrents’ are not clearly represented in the self-proclaimed neutral campus newspaper.

However, the Beta Town Post, which has always had a clear Alpha bias, does not hide anything. In today’s extra bulletin, it elaborated on the North District wizards practicing ’sacrificial magic’, the North District wizards squeezing the lower-level wizards’ jobs, the fringe wizard community having more tendencies toward evil god worship—last year’s general increase in spell material prices was even blamed on the North District wizards for buying in bulk, causing market supply shortage and malignant inflation, and so on.

It seems as if the ordinary wizards becoming poorer is entirely because of the emergence of the North District wizards and the Edge Academy.

Jiuyou and Alpha have always been at odds.

The saying ’the enemy of my enemy is a friend’ goes that originally the relationship between Jiuyou and the North District wizards wasn’t that good, but if the people of Alpha say something is bad, then in the eyes of Jiuyou people, it must be good.

”...This morning on the pedestrian street, I happened to hear two white-robed chatting, saying the sacrificial spells of the North District wizards are evil and brutal, the school shouldn’t be short-sighted to this extent, letting black magic invade campus... those North District wizards are ’eating’ frogs today, and tomorrow they might ’eat’ the lives of other wizards...”

”...This statement seems reasonable at first but doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. A very fitting example is that occasionally the Blood Race and Werewolves experience loss of control under the full moon, their bloodlust coming forth, and they completely ignore the seclusion regulations and the secrecy codex...Does the school refuse to accept Wizards from the Clans of the Moon because of this?”

”...To give up thousands of wizards with low qualifications for the possibility of existing side effects is the biggest case of choking on food!”

”...The biggest disagreement between Alpha and Edge Academy is that the rise of the fringe denies Alpha’s ’talent determinism’, wizards lacking talent also have the opportunity to become big wizards!”

”...This argument surely won’t convince those hypocrites at Alpha... The only big wizard among the North District wizards, Sister Korma, was our student council’s vice president back then! She completed the registered wizard assessment in the second year, in this group, honestly, who has that talent?”

”Young Master of Green Hills! Nine Has Doctor! And that fat guy...is about to enter!” The stick figure behind the door shouted sharply, standing out clearly amidst the noisy discussions.

Zheng Qing’s ears twitched, annoyed, glancing at the simple sketch on the white paper, he had heard that discussion while in the hallway and was listening with interest.

More annoyed than him, of course, was Xin Fat Man.

Not only was the ’material’ he was noting abandoned midway, but also due to the very rude ’and that fat guy’, as if he was some insignificant small figure!

”I want to smear it with a thick layer of fishman poop!” The fat wizard whispered through clenched teeth as he entered.

”Good idea!”

The Doctor casually urged him to hurry while kindly reminding, ”But I remember it doesn’t have nostrils, according to general dimension theory, whether high-dimensional world scents affect the low-dimensional world similarly, it’s hard for us to define...”

The fat wizard’s steps suddenly stopped.

Not because he wanted to find trouble with the stick figure now, but because a thin, hunched warlock was standing in the middle of the aisle, blocking the way forward for the three.

”Brother Qing, you’re here just in time!”

Duan Xiao Jian pushed the fat man aside in front of him, looking around with a burning gaze, his attitude solemn: ”Brother Qing plans to graduate this semester...along with the monitor, in our class there are at least two students similar to Sister Korma, this number has persuasion, right!”

The noisy crowd almost simultaneously turned to look at Zheng Qing, then all turned to look at Jiang Yu, many witches’ eyes faintly lit up, and a teasing atmosphere gradually rose in the air.

Tang Dun coughed lightly, breaking this faint awkwardness, looking at Zheng Qing: ”Everyone was just discussing Alpha Academy’s attitude towards the establishment of Edge Academy, what do you think?”

Zheng Qing thought, how can I view such trouble?

”I think the school supports the establishment of the new academy.”

The young student cautiously expressed their attitude first, then explained: ”The two vice deans of Edge Academy—Sister Korma comes from Jiuyou Academy, Professor Montreya comes from Alpha Academy, the two happen to be from the two largest academies of First University...this is definitely not a coincidence...which proves that at least internally at First University, the establishment of this new academy is supported by Jiuyou and Alpha. So, I think Beta Town Post or some individual white-robed’s views don’t necessarily truly represent Alpha’s attitude...”

His voice grew increasingly low.

Not only because the surroundings grew quieter, but also because of the classmates’ eyes that were shining brightly, like hungry wolves, as if they might pounce and eat him the next moment.

Zheng Qing realized he might have said something wrong.

Soon, the surging soundwave gave him a clear answer.

”Sister Korma is the vice dean of Edge Academy?”

”Then most students in Edge Academy must be North District wizards!”

”Who is the dean? Brother Qing, do you know who the dean of Edge Academy is? Or how many students they have now? Where is their academy located?”

”Is Professor Montreya also the vice dean? He seems to be just a senior registered wizard!”

”What an old joke! I heard from the buddy of the owner of Yota restaurant on the pedestrian street that Professor Montreya advanced to big wizard just before the new year, definitely true!”

”Nicolas? Has Nicolas arrived? He’s a North District wizard, isn’t he?”

”Fifi, where’s your Nicolas?”

”He seems to have not come yesterday!”

The crowd noisily dispersed to both sides, revealing the top student seated behind the desk preparing their lessons. The witch kept her head down, focused on the book in front of her, ignoring the surrounding noise.

Zheng Qing followed everyone’s gaze to another corner of the classroom.

Only then did he notice that Nicolas still hadn’t come to class today.
