High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2437: Chapter 658: The Invisible Deskmate

When the young wizards of Astronomy Class 08-1 excitedly left the classroom, the professor of Ancient Magic Arts Study had just entered classroom West 202.

Of course, this kind of time logic only occurred in Zheng Qing’s mind.

He also knew that both his Curse Course classmates and those in Ancient Magic Arts Study had classes at the same time and ended at the same time, but for him, the six-hour long morning class felt undeniably real.

Not many students opted for the elective in Ancient Magic Arts, almost all of them were third-year students, with a few exceptions in their fourth year. The classroom was not exclusively filled with Jiuyou Academy’s red-robed students, as there were also a few blue-robed, white-robed, and yellow-robed ones.

As an invisible man in practice, Zheng Qing quietly stayed in the corner of the classroom, waiting until everyone else had taken their seats before silently finding an empty seat in the back row and sitting down.

This was the simplest way to avoid interacting with people on this timeline.

However, not three seconds after he sat down, a hurried figure rushed in from outside the classroom and plopped down right next to Zheng Qing—almost sitting on his lap.

”Hmm?”

The newly-seated stranger seemed to hear a short breath, alertly turning his head, suspiciously scanning the empty seat next to him, thinking for a few seconds, he tentatively asked, ”Is someone here? Invisible?”

The stranger was a sturdy-looking black-haired warlock, wearing a wide blue robe with three black-edged stripes on the sleeve, indicating he was a third-year veteran from Starry Sky Academy.

But, a blue-robed?

Zheng Qing sighed slightly in disappointment—although this blue-robed person seemed very familiar to him, perhaps due to time conversion, he couldn’t recall the person’s identity—the only thing certain was that, to Jiuyou People, the coursework of blue-robed ones held virtually no reference value.

As Xin Fat Man would say, even his assignments written with his toes would be better than those of the blue-robed ones. Of course, such remarks would surely be said behind Dylan’s back.

Adhering to the rules of time travel, Zheng Qing did not respond to the greeting next to him, but instead, tidily took out his Ancient Magic Arts Study notes and placed them on the desk.

The textbook and feather pen that abruptly appeared in the air clearly answered the question from the side.

”Whoa!”

The blue-robed one clearly had seen a lot, immediately guessing what the sneaky guy next to him was dealing with, and turned entirely towards him, his face full of excitement: ”Can’t speak, can’t show yourself... Are you attending class through time conversion? I’ve heard of this situation, it’s a guy from Starry Sky Academy class of 06, intending to graduate early in the third year, so he applied...”

Zheng Qing had never seen a blue-robed talk so much.

All the blue-robed ones he knew, whether it was Dylan, Blue Bird, or Deng Xiaojian, were not talkative people, so much so that he subconsciously believed all blue-robed ones were taciturn.

But this desk mate clearly shattered the young wizard’s established perception.

He intended to cast a Close Ears and Block Ears spell on himself to isolate the buzzing nearby, but worried he might miss the professor’s opening remarks. For an unfamiliar course, the first paragraph of the professor’s first lesson was the most important.

”...I heard only top students apply for time conversion, are you from Jiuyou Academy or Alpha Academy? Surely not Starry Sky Academy, right!”

The blue-robed one beside him continued analyzing endlessly: ”I know all the high achievers of Starry Sky Academy, no matter which year, I know them all, and none of them graduate early... Nice to meet you, I am Jiang Hua, third year of Starry Sky Academy... Oh, right, you can’t speak, it’s okay, I’ll save this seat for you in the future, don’t worry about not having a place if you come late!”

For the blue-robed one’s kindness, Zheng Qing politely declined.

Maintaining a safe distance with any wizards on this timeline was a repeatedly emphasized item in the stack of application forms he signed, he was even considering changing seats wherever possible.

But Jiang Hua?

Upon hearing the name, Zheng Qing finally understood why he had felt that the person seemed familiar—the student Jiang was the captain of Starry Sky Academy Hunting Team, Zheng Qing had once encountered him in the finals during the school’s hunting team competition last year, but Zheng Qing’s deeper impression of him was that he had found a Jiuyou witch named Wang to be his girlfriend.

Due to the Invisibility Talisman, the young public student could unabashedly scrutinize his new desk mate, and so he noticed that Jiang Hua’s hair had grown significantly longer compared to his impression, and he had changed his hairstyle as well.

No wonder he didn’t recognize him at first glance.

”...Is the procedure for applying for time conversion troublesome?” Jiang Hua continued babbling, building rapport: ”I used to consider using time conversion to ambush the same prey at different times with the hunting team... Later I heard from Deng Zi that high-tier hunting teams have long had this tactic, it’s just that students aren’t allowed to freely disrupt the timeline... Apparently, those hunting teams from the New World can deploy various attack formations on the timeline... Oh, sorry, I’m from the Starry Sky Hunting Team, I usually enjoy talking about hunting topics, if you find it boring feel free to ignore...”

Zheng Qing suppressed the urge to cast a Petrification Curse on the person beside him.

Fortunately, that was when the professor pushed open the door and entered, and the chatterbox next to him finally quieted down.

”My surname is Xi, from West of the cardinal compass, you can call me ’Professor Xihua’.”

The professor of Ancient Magic Arts Study was an elder wizard with a shiny forehead, speaking with rhythm and intensity, squinting his eyes, seemingly poor eyesight, did not maintain discipline upon the podium, nor greeted everyone, but started flipping through the lecture notes by himself:

”This course covers magic arts within five hundred years, and it’s categorized under talismans mainly because its essence, like talismans, is a way to communicate with nature and deconstruct the world.

So-called arts, ’Fang’ refers to techniques, any magic skill can be classified as a technique, whether it’s talismans, divination, potions, formations, star signs, etc., all skills are techniques; ’Shu’ refers to techniques and numbers, it studies the principles of all things in heaven and earth. It’s an ancient Eastern magic theory.

In comparison, divination tends to analyze dimensions; magic script analyzes wisdom and consciousness; a curse is the skill of utilizing magic power; alchemy focuses more on the transformation between different materials; formations are rough variants of talisman usage... Only talismans can best understand arts, hence this course is categorized under the talismans big category by the school.

Through this course, you can understand the principles of talisman operation and communication from another perspective—a viewpoint fundamentally different from modern Dimension Theory... Oh, I almost forgot, as is convention, I will take roll call before class starts, respond if you’re here, those absent will lose participation points.”
