High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2413: Chapter 634: A Discussion on Safety and Health

The ’time conversion’ mentioned by Old Yao is actually a euphemistic term for ’manipulating time’.

After all, the Alliance is also a respectable institution, and the word ’manipulation’, no matter in which dimension, always carries a bit of a villainous vibe inherently.

Specifically in this situation,

time conversion should specifically refer to the sub-field of ’time reversal’—by reversing time, allowing the two young wizards to have enough time to double major in multiple subjects, without even sacrificing their sleep time—Zheng Qing was not unfamiliar with this concept, and as soon as Old Yao mentioned it, he grasped the deeper meaning.

It’s just that in his impression, this doesn’t seem to be an easy matter.

Nor is it safe enough.

”I remember that reversing time can cause spatial folds... Repeatedly ’adjusting’ time seems to make this space collapse prematurely? Isn’t it rather unsafe?”

Zheng Qing hesitated, instinctively touching the silver pocket watch hanging on his belt.

During the freshmen winter hunting, the gentleman had briefly reversed time in a small sandbox world, and afterwards that small world quickly collapsed under the backlash of the power of time, leaving a deep impression on Zheng Qing.

After the green mist, the professor’s small black eyes followed Zheng Qing’s inadvertent movement and glanced at his silver pocket watch, pausing for a moment before a thick puff of smoke rose, blocking his vision.

”Theoretically that’s true, but the function of magic is to break many deeply rooted truths in people’s hearts.”

Old Yao, a professor specializing in the philosophy of magic, was always eloquent: ”Just like this world, it appears to be one entity, but in reality, it is clearly divided into two parts—the First University and outside the school.

Within the First University, there are countless high-risk level laboratories, and accidents from high-tier magic experiments are too numerous to count. If such an accident were to occur in any area outside the school, it would definitely have long turned into a wasteland, not even having the chance to fall into the Ruins.

But as you can see, even now, our campus is still flourishing with life, without any obvious damage caused by magical accidents. So, you kids shouldn’t worry unnecessarily, fearing that small adjustments to the timeline might cause significant damage... There’s a sea of ’experiments’ that went wrong in this school, but does it mean we do nothing?

Our transformation of this school has surpassed the constraints of time and space, going far deeper than most people imagine.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you can act recklessly.

Using the Time Converter within the school—not that pocket watch of yours, stop touching it— there’s a specific institution responsible, and you must strictly follow related rules and regulations to use it. Any misuse will have you thrown out of the school before even making it to the Danghag Criminal Court.”

Zheng Qing laughed dryly, moving his hand away from the pocket watch.

He had indeed been contemplating if, following the professor’s suggestion for ’time adjustment’, there might be a chance to use his pocket watch earlier—after that winter hunting ended, the gentleman once told him that only after he graduated would he have the opportunity to use the functions of the pocket watch beyond just telling time—unfortunately, it seems his hopes were dashed.

”We will follow the rules, Professor,” the warlock declared confidently.

”Will you?” The headmaster of Jiuyou Academy snorted two clouds of smoke through his nose, with small sparks intertwined, like a dozing fire dragon: ”If Student Jiang Yu said this, I would feel very gratified, but as for you...”

He shook his head, not finishing his sentence.

But he made his meaning clear.

Zheng Qing drooped his eyebrows, his gaze sweeping over the two pieces of parchment on the desk, suddenly recalling what the professor mentioned earlier: ”You just said considering a more ’healthy’ plan... but time conversion doesn’t seem healthier than our previous schedule, Professor. I remember that using high-dimensional magic can cause ’Dimensional Wire Entanglement Syndrome’, and if we use it very frequently...”

”You actually know the term ’Dimensional Wire Entanglement’!”

Old Yao took the pipe away from his mouth, knocking the ashes out of the bowl while looking at the warlock thoughtfully: ”At your level, you should have experienced ’Dimensional Wire Entanglement’, that’s why you looked up related information, right... That’s why I say, you should have a bit more genuine academic spirit. If you read a few more pages when researching, you would know that the symptoms of ’Dimensional Wire Entanglement’ can be gradually overcome through ’focus’ training. In other words, experiencing a few more time travels, you would accept the discomfort during dimension changes. As for health...”

He paused, pinching a tuft of golden tobacco from the box and slowly stuffing it into the pipe bowl until it was nearly full, before speaking again: ”Theoretically, both plans have about the same health damage to you. The symptoms of excessive fatigue are inevitable. The difference is that by using time conversion, aside from fatigue, you can deeply feel the effects of high-dimensional magic, which is like adding an intensive practice course at a high tier... It benefits the evaluation at graduation.”

He pressed the tobacco in the pipe bowl more tightly with his fingertip.

”Professor.”

Jiang Yu, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke, her tone somewhat hesitant: ”I remember that time conversion type magic already belongs to the legendary rank magic, right...”

She slowed her speech slightly at this point, carefully choosing her words, deliberately avoiding looking at Zheng Qing, and asked cautiously: ”The book says, the higher the magic rank, the more valuable resources are needed, and the more magic power consumed... What I mean is, if we follow your suggestion, do we need to pay extra fees? How does the school charge?”

This question was quite realistic.

Zheng Qing really hadn’t thought in this direction—perhaps because the more than seven hundred jade coins he earned monthly had already made him forget his once financially strained days—must admit, those jade coins gave him enough confidence.

”Well, this depends on the specific situation.”

Old Yao clearly hadn’t anticipated such a ’down-to-earth’ question and was momentarily stunned before regaining his composure: ”To my knowledge, through formal application procedures, ’necessary’ teaching resources are all included in your tuition fees. Only additional borrowed school resources would require extra fees... In the past, there have been similar situations, and as I recall, the school did not charge extra... Of course, specific issues require specific analysis, whether you need to pay extra depends on the final review by the relevant department.”

Saying this, he pulled out two long pieces of parchment from the drawer and handed them to the two young wizards in front of the desk.

”This is the application form for ’time conversion’, fill it out now, and I’ll expedite it for you... The result should be out after tomorrow’s class meeting.”
