High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2425: Chapter 646: Can’t Register for Classes?

Zheng Qing wasn’t sure if he was the luckiest hunter.

But he was quite certain that if his classmates knew he could make a hole in a Big Wizard with ease, he wouldn’t have a moment’s peace for at least two months.

So he kept giving Xin Fat Man glances, signaling him to change the subject. The Fat Wizard didn’t disappoint and immediately reached out to stop Tang Dun from leaning forward further.

”Monitor!”

The Fat Wizard pulled out a crumpled piece of parchment from somewhere and waved it by Tang Dun’s ear, making a rustling noise: ”Can you help me take a look at something? About Thursday...”

”You can’t select the Thursday afternoon course, right?”

Tang Dun tilted his head, finishing Xin’s unspoken sentence, then turned to look at the other two warlocks in the corner: ”...Can you guys not select it either?”

Xiao Xiao finally raised his head from his notebook, adjusted his glasses, and silently nodded.

Couldn’t select the course?

This was the first time Zheng Qing had heard of such a thing. He couldn’t help scratching his head. Over the past few days, he had indeed spent a lot of effort on course selection, but his schedule hadn’t been approved by Old Yao yet, so naturally, he didn’t know anything about such issues.

Curiously, he took the crumpled parchment from the Fat Wizard—this was the ’timetable’ every student received during registration. Normally, students only needed to fill in their desired courses in the appropriate time slots on the timetable. Zheng Qing found it hard to understand how the Fat Man managed to make such a mess of his timetable in just one afternoon.

It was a kind of talent.

He tried to smooth out the crumpled parchment, then dipped a feather pen into ink, and attempted to write ’magical zoology’ in the blank spot on Thursday afternoon.

But he couldn’t write the first character ’magic’.

Zheng Qing felt as if the nib of the feather pen was scratching on waxed, smooth parchment. The ink flowed out, only to be quickly reabsorbed by the nib, but other areas of the timetable didn’t have this problem.

Xin Fat Man was carefully watching Zheng Qing’s feather pen. Once he confirmed that Zheng Qing couldn’t select the course either, he breathed a sigh of relief, quickly snatching back his timetable, and muttered: ”Gave me a fright... Even if you’re just filling it in randomly, don’t write ’magical zoology’, you know why...”

He suddenly realized Tang Dun was still next to him, so it wasn’t appropriate to talk about ’Lecturer Gan Ning’, and he quickly shut his mouth. Fortunately, Tang Dun was still focused on Zheng Qing’s inability to select the course, not noticing the Fat Wizard’s little slip.

”This isn’t just a problem for a few of you.”

Tang Dun sighed heavily—Zheng Qing was actually quite relieved that his attention had shifted away from that Great Demon—and gestured around the classroom: ”All of us, I mean everyone in our Astronomy Class 08-1, can’t select that Thursday afternoon class... I’ve checked, and none of the other second-year classes at Jiuyou Academy, other grades in the school, or any other colleges within the campus have this issue.”

Thursday afternoon is a public mandatory class. Since the first year, this time slot has seemed a bit ’chicken-ribbed’—on one hand, the school arranges courses that seem ’not very important’ for this time slot, but on the other, the class is mandatory for everyone.

For example, in the first semester of the freshman year, the school scheduled a life skills class, teaching everyone how to use magic to do laundry, clean, tidy their rooms, and so on; in the second semester, Jiuyou Academy students were all arranged to take Fishman Language, as Lin Zhong Lake occupies a large area of the campus, and all Jiuyou people inevitably interact with those smelly aquatic creatures during their university life.

However, in Zheng Qing’s impression, the old professor named Garcia who taught Fishman Language was always neat and clean, without any odor, leaving a very deep impression on him.

By the first semester of the second year, this class became ”Career Planning”, with each session talking about very reasonable nonsense, to the extent that by the end of the semester, Zheng Qing had little impression of the course—hmmm, perhaps the drowsy heads during the class counted as his deepest impression.

A few days ago, while arranging the timetable, the boy lamented to himself that if he had chosen electives in the previous semesters, he would have surely picked those more valuable three-credit courses instead of wasting time on these useless two-credit ones. If he had chosen three-credit courses, he could have accumulated three extra credits in a year and a half, meaning this semester he could have taken one less major course.

But he didn’t expect his ’lingering thoughts’ to ’echo’ back in such a strange way.

”Is the course selection system malfunctioning?”

The first thought in Zheng Qing’s mind was that Old Yao was so busy with the lab and dealing with related departments that he forgot to register the Astronomy Class 08-1, which made him sound a bit guilty when asking.

”Not sure.”

Tang Dun stroked his chin, a look of frustration on his face: ”I went to the office to find Old Yao in the afternoon, but The Door God wouldn’t let me in, saying the professor was meeting an important guest...”

At this point, Zheng Qing felt even guiltier, involuntarily lowering his head and fiddling with the feather pen on the table. Xiao Xiao immediately noticed his odd behavior, narrowing his eyes silently.

”...I remember you guys have connections in school, thought you might know something about the situation.” Tang Dun picked up another one of Zheng Qing’s feather pens, smoothed the feathers, and shook his head: ”Actually, another reason I came over was to ask about this. Looks like there’s no need now... By the way, when you dealt with that Black Wizard, what did you use...”

”Old Yao is here!!!”

The scream from the stick figure behind the door broke the noise in the classroom.

Tang Dun, originally planning to discuss the details of the battle in the depths of Silent Forest with Zheng Qing, let out a disappointed sigh and reluctantly returned to his seat.

The group gathered around Li Meng instantly dispersed like startled birds and beasts, and the Little Witch immediately folded her arms on the desk and sat up straight.

Soon, Old Yao pushed the door open and entered.

But he was not alone.

Jiang Yu followed behind him, holding a thick stack of materials. Zheng Qing couldn’t shake the feeling that, from the moment the witch walked in, she was examining him with a strange look, without avoiding anyone.

”Do you and the Monitor have a new development?”

Xin Fat Man tried to lean his head back, his lips moving slightly as he made exaggerated expressions, as if he had caught big news. This made Zheng Qing realize that what he had just seen wasn’t an illusion.

”Sit properly!”

The young cost student, feeling a bit guilty, kicked the seat in front of him to make that big head move away. But while he could kick Xin’s seat, he couldn’t control the necks of his other classmates—in Zheng Qing’s estimation, at least more than half of the class were silently turning their heads between him and Jiang Yu.

This strange atmosphere even caught Old Yao’s attention.
