High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2440: Chapter 661: Famous Again

Zheng Qing sighed heavily.

The downside of going against an excellent Diviner is that he can always predict your predictions, leaving you with no way out. The young scholarships student glanced at the small flowerpot and weakly put away his charm gun.

Realizing he was safe, Xin Fat Man picked up the wooden comb from the bed again and started grooming Tuan Tuan. Xiao Xiao, on the other hand, became more cautious and didn’t immediately put away the amulets on the table.

”Don’t worry, it’s only the first day of school; I haven’t gone crazy yet.”

Zheng Qing muttered, dragging his heavy steps and collapsing onto his bed, mumbling: ”This is killing me... I have six hours of class in the afternoon... and another three in the evening...”

Just a simple calculation like this made the warlock feel his future was bleak.

But his two roommates, hearing these complaints, became interested instead.

”Oh right, I almost forgot to ask you.” Fat Wizard leaned forward with curiosity: ”How does that Time Conversion class feel? Is it interesting? Is it difficult?”

”Very noisy.”

At the mention of his impression of that class, Zheng Qing immediately pictured his noisy tablemate and gave the most basic response, then paused and added: ”... It’s also very dangerous. The course feels a bit interesting, but I suspect that the fun comes from my first-time experience attending class through time conversion... Do you remember Philosophy of Magic in the first semester of freshman year? Ancient Magic Arts Study is about as difficult, but it sounds a bit more complex... I feel like I won’t graduate this semester...”

He buried his head in the pillow, groaning in a muffled voice.

Fat Wizard sighed in empathy: ”Sounds troublesome enough... Luckily, I didn’t plan to graduate early. I remember you said you’d choose courses related to talismans...”

”Any high-level course calculated by the Professor Joint Meeting for three credits is never easy.” Xiao Xiao calmly gathered the amulets on the table and made a snappy remark.

”You can’t say they’re unrelated.”

Zheng Qing felt half-asleep, his ears listening to Xiao Xiao’s words, his mind on the Fat Wizard’s comments, yet what he spoke seemed unrelated to either: ”Basic Runes and Ancient Magic Arts are like a pile of various-sized gears and a precision difference engine... No matter how much I learn about gears, I can’t handle the complexity of that difference engine...”

He wasn’t sure if his companions understood the real meaning of his metaphor.

Nor did he have the energy to find out.

As the images of gears and difference engines flashed through his mind, the warlock slipped into a deep sleep. But just as he felt he’d closed his eyes, Fat Wizard’s loud yell rang in his ears:

”Get up fast! It’s already one thirty! Do you want to be late on the first day of school?”

Zheng Qing felt like Santiago on a small fishing boat, being dragged by that wild marlin, tossed and turned by the waves, almost shaken to pieces.

Vaguely, he heard the Doctor’s voice: ”The afternoon is Fu Lu Class; even if he’s late and loses in-class points, Teacher Zhang can still boost his grade with extra points before the class ends...”

Upon hearing the keywords ’deduct points’ and ’add points’, Zheng Qing finally woke up.

”Is it already one thirty?” His mind was still a little foggy.

The next second, a cup of icy thick liquid was shoved roughly to his mouth, and just a small sip woke Zheng Qing completely. He blinked, seeing the light green liquid in the cup, his nostrils flaring slightly, the unique fresh and lively grassy scent washing over him.

The Sprites obediently held warm towels, coming closer.

”To be accurate, it’s already one thirty-two.” Xiao Xiao glanced at the time, then at the boy wiping his face, shaking his head: ”It’s just the first day... By the way, if I were you, I’d wear an invisibility talisman before leaving the house.”

Zheng Qing’s eyes peeked out from the warm towel, looking a little confused.

Xin Fat Man, who was about to leave, paused to explain simply: ”While you were sleeping, at least a hundred paper cranes flew into the dorm, all inquiring about Edge Academy... Mister Teaching Assistant, you’re famous again.”

He gave a thumbs up, looking impressed.

Zheng Qing followed where his hand pointed.

That’s when he noticed a big net bag had appeared on the desk, filled with paper cranes of various colors flapping their wings, rustling about. Fat Cat extended a paw, reaching into the net bag, fiddling with interest.

Bam!

The door slammed as Zheng Qing belatedly realized that his two roommates had already left the dorm one after another. He sprang up quickly, stuffed the paper cranes into the grey cloth bag in a few goes, and then took out two invisibility talismans.

He wasn’t very skilled, but he took advice well.

Since the Doctor suggested using invisibility talismans, it couldn’t be wrong.

On his way to the teaching building, he casually dismantled a dozen paper cranes, browsing through them briefly. Most letters were greetings from Edge Academy pre-course students, and several others were from different newspapers hoping to schedule a simple interview with Zheng Qing.

For the latter, he crushed them into a ball, planning to find a time to burn them into ashes.

As for the former’s intentions, he was somewhat puzzled.

For this, Xiao Xiao provided a somewhat reliable guess: ”The news about Edge Academy’s establishment only spread from our class meeting last night... Don’t be pedantic; of course, I know that the high-tier wizards in and out of the school have already heard of this news, but it really spread when Legendary Wizard Old Yao casually mentioned it at our meeting.

This means, from the time the academy’s establishment made the news until now, it’s been less than a day... And you were the third ’staff member’ confirmed to work at Edge Academy, right after Cole and Professor Montreya... It’s not surprising that those pre-course students want to get to know you, and those journalists want to gather some information... Sorry, he hasn’t come... I don’t know either, yep... I’ll definitely tell you when there’s any news.”

Watching Xiao Xiao skillfully brush off another student looking for information, Zheng Qing felt numb.

At this moment, he was shrinking with an invisibility talisman in a corner.

With less than ten minutes before class, the classroom was a noisy chaos—aside from discussions about Edge Academy and Zheng Qing serving as a teaching assistant in the big news, many were also sharing some green flyers.

”The ’Please Give Me a Frog’ movement plans to hold a parade celebration this weekend.”

Xin Fat Man waved a flyer joyfully sharing the news he had gathered with his companions: ”They probably feel the establishment of Edge Academy is due to the effects of their activities from last semester... Although I think they’re giving themselves too much credit, I’ll still participate in this celebration... I’m sure to find lots of good material!”
