High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2431: Chapter 652: Three-Leaf Clover

The ’weeds’ the Fat Wizard mentioned refer to the pale green patterns similar to wild grass that cover the edges of the letter’s paper, where the trihedral emblem of the First University can faintly be seen rotating.

Xiao Xiao reached out and wiped.

A segment of enlarged pattern appeared in mid-air, rotating slowly under the white light. A few lively sprites flew out from the tent, flitting up and down around the green pattern, dancing gracefully. Their joyful chirping even made Tuan Tuan open his eyes for a glance.

”Do you see it?” Xiao Xiao pointed to the pattern in mid-air with a brush, ”Although these patterns look intricate, if you examine them closely, they’re all variations of the same symbol...”

The tip of his brush lightly stroked and adjusted the patterns, occasionally slicing and rotating them, overlapping one identical design over another. In a short time, only one extremely simple pattern remained in mid-air.

Zheng Qing unconsciously touched his ear—the process of simplifying complex magic patterns into a single symbol easily reminded him of the process of Curse Convergence.

Only now, the pattern that Xiao Xiao finally ’converged’ was a clover.

Three tender green leaves, one hanging to the left, another to the right, and one resembling a leek leaf, like a sharp sword pointing steadfastly to the sky.

”It’s not one of the Basic Runes.” Zheng Qing easily concluded.

”Of course not.” Xiao Xiao looked at him strangely, seemingly curious about what he was thinking. Then he adjusted his glasses, snapped his fingers, and four additional patterns immediately appeared beside the clover.

One pattern was round outside and square inside, entirely red, resembling a copper coin.

Another pattern was a silver line intersecting outwards, precisely a variant of the Greek letter ’α.’

There was also a golden triangle and a blue new star.

”You mean this wild grass pattern is the emblem of the Edge Academy?” Xin Fat Man immediately grasped the doctor’s unfinished meaning, showing a trace of excitement.

Yet another excellent source for news.

With the news of the Edge Academy’s establishment spreading, every minute and second now had become extremely valuable for journalists. Every piece of news related to this new academy would surely garner great attention within the Alliance, especially those involving the academy’s founding principles, admission policies, emblems, and other basic information, which are what the public most wants to know.

And the journalist who could uncover such news would certainly gain greater influence in the editorial department.

Xin seemingly could already see himself sitting behind the desk of the deputy editor of the campus newspaper.

The excitement activated a node in his brain, making his thoughts sharper than usual, easily thinking beyond the emblem to other aspects.

”Speaking of which, if the Edge Academy is really established, shouldn’t the First University’s emblem also change?” The Fat Wizard extended a stubby finger to outline a perfect triangular pyramid formed by four equilateral triangles above those five symbols.

Zheng Qing blinked his eyes.

At the freshman opening ceremony, the president at the podium said that the First University represents the progress and inclusiveness of the Wizard World, and each academy is equal. Just like the trihedral emblem, no matter from which direction you see it, it is always the front.

”The school has never officially acknowledged that each face of the emblem represents an academy,” Xiao Xiao frowned, flipped through his notebook, sounding uncertain: ”This has always been speculation among students... Of course, in my view, the Edge Academy doesn’t necessarily need to occupy a ’certain face.’”

He paused briefly, tapping the emblem in mid-air with the barrel of his brush, watching the trihedral spin in the air before adding meaningfully: ”...You know, the Edge Academy is meant to gather those on the edge of the Alliance... Each academy has more than one marginalized group, right?”

Zheng Qing watched the few glowing edges of the trihedral, mentally listing the marginal students in each academy, becoming slightly lost in thought.

So much so that it took Xin Fat Man calling out many times before he realized.

”What?” he asked in a daze.

The Fat Man rolled his eyes, waving a stubby finger in front of the young cost student’s nose: ”You can refuse to answer if you don’t want to talk, but don’t pretend not to hear, we’re less than a meter apart... I heard from Li Meng after a meeting that Jiang Da Headmaster has been living at Greenhill Mansion for a while? What exactly is your relationship among you guys?”

From the corner of his eye, Zheng Qing saw Xiao Xiao’s ears perked up, and he felt speechless.

He didn’t know why the topic of idle chatter among dormitory mates would make such a big leap and deviation during his momentary distraction. But he knew even in the dormitory, some topics can be discussed, and some cannot.

”I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The Warlock grumbled, stretching his arms for a big yawn and burying himself into his tent, vaguely responding: ”Not gonna talk, not gonna talk, still have many classes tomorrow... huff, huff.”

His feigned sleep was hardly concealed.

Xin Fat Man complained a bit right outside the tent, then adjusted the room’s lighting to a slightly lower brightness, and Zheng Qing very obediently quieted his snoring.

Through the tent, he could vaguely still hear the Journalist classmate ’interviewing’ the Doctor.

”...It’s easy to understand Sister Korma as vice dean... but Professor Montreya... there are many Big Wizards in the school who qualify, why do you think they chose him to become the other vice dean of the Edge Academy?”

”It’s still related to the nature of the academy. Edge, edge... I guess it’s because his field of research is on the fringes at the First University, or maybe his research walks the dangerous edge... Just say these things privately, don’t put them in your report, it could be life-threatening... I heard that the professor participated in research related to Demon Flesh transplantation a long time ago!”

”Damn, related to Demon Flesh again... Why doesn’t the school just seal this area of research.” The Fat Wizard cursed softly, changing the subject: ”Like I’ve always struggled to understand, if God is truly omnipotent, why doesn’t He simply kill Satan.”

A mocking cat’s call faintly sounded from afar, and in his drowsiness, Zheng Qing couldn’t tell if that meow belonged to Tuan Tuan or one of the other cats he knew, it just felt somewhat familiar.

Soon, Xiao Xiao’s voice of response rang out, dispelling the vague cat meows: ”...This question is too big, you should seek a Professor from Atlas for an answer.”

”Without question.”

”...Perhaps this is the difference between God and the Devil. God cherishes every life, practicing His benevolence and compassion, even if that life belongs to the Devil. The Buddha probably has similar ideas, like feeding an eagle with flesh? Faith is like ropes, saving those sinking souls.”

”This is why I can never become Buddha or God, nor ever align with Atlas’ admissions philosophy... Compared to compassion, I more believe a dead Devil is a good Devil worth saving.”

Dormitory chit-chat easily veers off course like this. Listening to his companions’ chatter becoming increasingly ’profound’ and ’obscure,’ Zheng Qing finally couldn’t resist his inner fatigue, closing his eyes in drowsiness.

Today, he had longer class hours than others, with an extra session of a complex and difficult magic theory lesson, naturally consuming more energy.

And this would be his routine for the coming five days of the next week!
