High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2444: Chapter 665: The Forgotten Task

The anger value not only has a distance limit but also a time limit.

While hurriedly making his way to the teaching building, this conclusion suddenly emerged in Zheng Qing’s mind.

If Xiao Xiao and Xin were still in the dorm, there would inevitably be a chaotic mess, with cat fur and yellow talismans flying everywhere. But because the distance between them was widened, the bit of anger Zheng Qing had accumulated in the washroom wasn’t enough to sustain even a small flame for long. Each second, the conversations of passersby inevitably distracted him, dissipating some of his stored anger.

Until he reached the classroom door.

Zheng Qing’s concern for his personal safety had already surpassed his intent to murder his two roommates.

”I feel like someone sneaked into the classroom, but I can’t see them.” The stick figure behind the door grumbled, shading its eyes with its hand, hopping left and right on the small piece of white paper, trying to find the sneaky character.

Luckily, its voice was very low, and no one else heard it.

Zheng Qing subconsciously touched the invisibility talisman hanging on his waist.

The gentle magic power was quietly flowing along the twisted circuit on the talisman paper, smooth and stable. The warlock held his breath, lightened his steps, and carefully avoided every classmate he encountered.

There were less than five minutes before class started, and most people had already taken their seats to preview the textbooks. This was the main reason Zheng Qing didn’t run into more trouble.

His gaze first fell on the front row of the classroom.

Jiang Yu had her head lowered, fully focused on the lesson in front of her, ignoring the noise in the classroom. A lock of black hair fell beside her ear, and she didn’t even seem to have time to brush it back.

As Zheng Qing passed in front of her, he noticed that the small desk was neatly organized with several piles of textbooks, including Enock’s magic, voodoo spells, and star signs divination—the witch was turning her star sign chart, constantly recording various different values in her notebook. The densely packed numbers were enough to make anyone dizzy.

He couldn’t help but reach out a finger and carefully brushed the witch’s hair back.

”Li Meng!”

The witch, busy with her homework, hummed, ”Don’t do these little tricks! Those assignments are not for you to show off in front of others, but to lay a good foundation for your studies in your junior and even senior years...”

The little witch, initially buried in reference books, looked puzzled and turned to her cousin, not knowing what she was talking about.

Zheng Qing stifled a laugh, tiptoed, and silently slipped to the back row of the classroom.

Then he noticed an unexpected guest in his chosen spot—this term is somewhat inaccurate; to be precise, the owner of that seat had returned.

During lunch break, the warlocks of dormitory 403 discussed when Zhang Ji Xin would return to school. At the time, the most optimistic Xiao Xiao thought he would return tomorrow at the earliest.

But after only two hours, Zheng Qing saw the person in the classroom who was supposedly thousands of miles away. At that moment, he was waving his arms, talking non-stop with two companions.

He instinctively quickened his pace.

Just a few meters away from the corner where the warlocks usually sat, he clearly felt the grey cloth bag hanging from his waist sway slightly, the magic on the talisman paper momentarily paused, and suddenly, the noise in the classroom seemed to fade away from him.

Zheng Qing instantly realized he’d just passed through a delicate sound insulation barrier.

Xiao Xiao’s eyes flickered slightly, glancing towards the direction of the aisle, subtly leaning forward to leave a narrow path for a certain invisible person.

Just for this ’narrow gate,’ Zheng Qing decided to forgive his previous nonsense.

Of course, he was more interested in why Zhang Ji Xin returned to school earlier than expected.

As he got closer to the corner, passing through another sound insulation barrier, Zhang Ji Xin’s loud voice clearly reached Zheng Qing’s ears.

”...I don’t know the reason either,”

The red-faced male wizard, looking travel-worn, had some suspicious bloodstains on his robe: ”Initially, we had chased to the seventh vent; within just a couple more vents, we’d have definitely caught that cunning Ice Chilong... Its tail was already broken by me, and it surely couldn’t have gone far... But my brother seemed to have received some news, and urgently dragged me back, not even taking the Earth Dragon Express, instead spending a lot of money to use the Clock Channel... When I got to school, I heard Mr. Zha wanted to take his place, and the Blood Comrades were up to something shady...”

”Nonsense!”

Zheng Qing interrupted Zhang Ji Xin, biting his teeth, somewhat exasperatedly defending himself, ”I don’t even know how many departments Sacred Will has, so why would I want to take Lei Zhe’s place? To find playmates for the fluffballs on the Cat Fruit Tree?”

Zhang Ji Xin’s voice abruptly stopped.

He looked at the empty aisle in front of him, confusion in his eyes lasting only a few seconds before he realized, ”Mr. Zha? Did you get into trouble again? ...Hmm, my brother said he wouldn’t let the people of the Will bother you! Wait, I just heard from Fat Man, have you become an assistant in the Fringe Hunting Team? Why does the Fringe Hunting Team need an assistant?”

”It’s Edge Academy.” Xin Fat Man had to correct the numerous errors made by the red-faced male wizard.

”What Edge Academy?” Zhang Ji Xin’s brows knit together: ”It feels like I was just two days late coming to school, and the world has changed so much... I don’t understand anything you say!”

Forget it, I’m tired, so be it.

Zheng Qing ’thudded’ as he plopped onto the desk, not wanting to say another word.

”The Vice Dean is arriving!!”

The stick figure behind the door screamed, reminding everyone that class was about to start.

It took Zheng Qing a few seconds to react, suddenly realizing that today, which is the usual Tuesday afternoon time slot, was a class on Advanced Magic Script by Professor Montreya.

And Professor Montreya had already become the Vice Dean of Edge Academy.

Before the stick figure’s scream echoed, he had a vague sense that he seemed to have forgotten something.

But the busy academic life filled his mind with spellcraft, symbol diagrams, yin symbols, curses, and new divination skills, and he also had to deal with all sorts of odd rumors and baseless speculations in his spare time. It wasn’t until Professor Montreya walked into the classroom that he remembered what he had overlooked.

”The gentleman is present.”

The young teaching assistant muttered, finally realizing that he was too occupied with news to pay attention to the real world—although he had heard everywhere that he was appointed as the teaching assistant for Edge Academy, perhaps hearing it too often, he completely forgot that Old Yao had once reminded him to take time before class on Thursday to visit Edge Academy’s two vice deans.

Even worse, his teaching plan was still an empty slate; he hadn’t written a single word yet.
