High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2445: Chapter 666: A Small Misunderstanding

During the entire Magic Script Class, Zheng Qing felt rather uneasy.

He thought that Professor Montreya must regret recommending him as a teaching assistant. Otherwise, why would he glance at him a few more times during class, his eyes full of reproach?

Fortunately, he was now a transparent man, able to pretend as if he didn’t exist.

Yes, a transparent man.

Having experienced many array formations, Zheng Qing perceptively sensed the impending doubts and clamor before the storm of public opinion hit. Wisely, he chose to adopt the same strategy as he did last year in response to the ’Su Shijun Incident’ and began acting as an invisible person.

The advantage of this was that he could focus more on the intimidatingly large number of subjects on his new schedule; the downside being that another new rumor spread across the academy—that under the strong operation of a well-known Upper House Member under the moonlight, a young sophomore cost student was about to receive an Honorary Diploma from First University without requiring the Registered Wizard assessment, thereby gaining school recognition and acquiring the formal teaching position that many outstanding graduates coveted. Recently, someone not attending classes was the best proof of this.

The first time he heard this kind of statement, Zheng Qing had a smile on his face, but his heart remained like an ancient well without waves.

He had become desensitized to this level of rumors.

But being a transparent man and truly being transparent were ultimately different. As a teaching assistant simultaneously recommended by the two vice-deans of the Edge Academy, informed by the Dean of Jiu You College, and recognized by First University, he couldn’t be truly transparent.

Originally, he wanted to consult Professor Montreya immediately about the teaching outline after the Magic Script Class, but once the class was over, the podium was immediately surrounded by a group of enthusiastic young wizards—some came to ask about content they didn’t understand during class or questions about the homework; but most were curious about the newly established academy.

There were even many curious people gathering at the classroom door upon hearing the news.

Professor Montreya was one of the few sources where everyone could get first-hand information.

Seeing that the people around were not going to disperse anytime soon, Zheng Qing had no choice but to first proceed to the Time Conversion course.

Tuesday afternoon was a Talisman Foot Ciphertext class, mainly covering the end part of a talisman. For Zheng Qing, this was a rare and easy class. After this class ended, as soon as the lecturer left the podium, he rushed out of the classroom, sprinting all the way, to wait ahead of time at the office building entrance for Professor Montreya, who hadn’t yet ’dismissed class’.

The Talisman Foot Ciphertext class was held on the first floor of the teaching building.

The Advanced Magic Text class was held on the second floor of the teaching building.

Since both classes ended at the same time, theoretically, Zheng Qing would definitely reach the office before Professor Montreya. This was indeed the case. When he was halfway through his third bacon sandwich at the office door, the stern-looking professor with gray temples finally strolled leisurely back to the teaching building.

Zheng Qing wondered if perhaps it was an illusion, but he thought Professor Montreya smiled at him.

It must be an illusion, the young man told himself—in his previous role as an assistant in Professor Montreya’s laboratory, he knew that this stern elder wizard almost never smiled.

”You’ve worked hard.”

This was the first thing the professor said to Zheng Qing, which immediately touched the young wizard greatly.

At the same time, the young man noticed that compared to their last meeting at Greenhill Mansion, the seemingly near and far illusory aura surrounding Professor Montreya had almost disappeared.

He recalled that Korma took several months to control his post-advancement anomalies.

This is probably the difference between a senior registered wizard and a fortunate advancer after elevation.

”It wasn’t hard, it wasn’t hard.”

These thoughts flashed through Zheng Qing’s mind as he struggled to swallow the sandwich in his mouth, almost choking himself, and looking extremely embarrassed: ”Did you... did you know I was waiting for you here? I mean...”

”I ran into Professor Yi just now while coming downstairs, and he suggested I return to the office because someone was looking for me.”

Professor Montreya pushed the office door open, gesturing for the young man to come in too, then hung his pointed hat on the door hook: ”If it weren’t for his reminder, I would probably have gone to the Sakura Pub by now... Hmm, I guess I know what you’re here for... Green tea? Black tea? Apologies, these are the only drinks available in the office... I heard from Old Yao that you have an evening class, so take it easy.”

Accompanied by these seemingly casual yet actually compact words, two glasses containing different beverages clinked ahead of Zheng Qing. Despite the teas miraculously not splattering at all, the scene seemed like an act of two skillful acrobats.

The young wizard respectfully accepted the glass of light green tea.

”Not hard, not hard...” he repeated indistinctly like a tape recorder, taking a few gulps of tea until he finally felt his throat was less obstructed.

Since there was only an hour of rest between the afternoon and evening classes, he had to make every second count, which included having the dinner he had Xin Fat Man buy in advance.

”Hard work is hard work; don’t fool your body like this.”

Professor Montreya suddenly stopped, turned, and casually pinched Zheng Qing’s arm and shoulder. His blue-gray eyes, sharp as an eagle’s, scrutinized the young wizard from top to bottom: ”Did you notice any abnormal situations?”

The muscle on Zheng Qing’s arm subconsciously tightened, and the glass in his hand immediately emitted a barely audible cracking sound. He blinked, a bit embarrassed on his face.

He knew the glass in his hand might appear intact now but was already damaged inside, likely to shatter abruptly during a tea pour, scattering the sprites with glass shards all over.

Professor Montreya raised an eyebrow, a slight smile tugging at his lips, which he quickly concealed.

”No, nothing abnormal.” Zheng Qing held the teacup, suddenly feeling restrained, murmuring: ”Sorry, Professor, I didn’t mean to...”

”But it’s much better than before, isn’t it?”

The professor happily waved, and from afar, a cabinet door swung open, revealing rows of shiny laboratory equipment, flying out like a group of winged angels: ”Compared to last time at Greenhill Mansion, this time, at least you didn’t directly crush the cup. Isn’t this a very welcome progress? So, would you like to do a further examination this time? Indeed, compared to outside, the school’s testing conditions are better, allowing for a more comprehensive check.”

Zheng Qing slowly realized that Professor Montreya seemed to have misunderstood his intentions.

Meanwhile, from the corner of his eye, he noticed among the neat rows of flying laboratory tools, there were over fifty knives of different sizes, leaving his eyes blank, legs quaking, as the image of himself being thinly sliced on an experimental table suddenly flooded his mind.
