High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2438: Chapter 659: The Benefits of Invisibility

”Alfred Coke.”

”Here!”

”Ao Xiaobao.”

”Present!”

”Benjamin Potov”

...

The old professor on the podium called the roll unhurriedly. Zheng Qing had only heard a few names before he realized he might be called last, as Professor Xihua was obviously calling names alphabetically.

This was not a big deal.

The only thing that Zheng Qing minded a little was that the old man on the podium had called less than twenty names, yet the person in the blue robe beside him had already ”answered on behalf” three times—something he had only heard about in legends. Unlike the well-behaved students of Jiuyou, the wizards from Starry Sky were more innovative—two of these proxy answers used ventriloquism, and one used imitation, purely skillful without any magic involved. Moreover, the three responses had distinctly different voices, with even slight variations in the direction of the sound, making one marvel at the creator’s wonder.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but glance at the person in the blue robe a few more times.

As the saying goes, eyes not only have weight but also temperature.

The scorching heavy gaze from the side made Jiang Hua a bit uneasy. Taking advantage of a page-turning pause from Professor Xihua, he turned his head and whispered with a smiling face: ”We’re all friends here, helping each other is how it should be... You’re not from the disciplinary team, are you?! It can’t be, it can’t be, I checked the old almanac before going out today, it shouldn’t be this unlucky... Next time you can’t make it to the class, I can help you too! Just a paper crane’s matter! Leave it to me!”

He patted his chest with a thumping sound.

The attitude was good, but Zheng Qing felt he probably wouldn’t need it. Because until the end, Professor Xihua never called the name of the invisible one. The reason was, of course, quite clear.

”Hmm, there is another ’red-named’ student in the class, I can see you... one-on-one, you don’t need to answer.”

The old man extended his index and middle fingers, pointed to his eyes, then pointed towards where Zheng Qing was sitting, not explaining what ’red name’ meant nor what he saw, just lowered his head and started reading his lecture notes, completely ignoring the other students in the classroom who were turning their heads or whispering to each other.

The dense stares came and went, lingering in the back corner for a long time, yet they didn’t disturb Zheng Qing at all.

For him, being under the curious gaze of a group of busybodies was just a minor situation. He had encountered far scarier scenes. Moreover, now he was in an invisible state, he could completely treat those stares as mere air.

And Jiang Hua, who was the leader of the Starry Sky Hunting Team, seemed completely undisturbed by the looks from others; he even took a moment to raise his hand and wave it around, just like a big star making an entrance.

”...The name of Ancient Magic Arts Study might sound like a comprehensive course such as Philosophy of Magic or Introduction to Alchemy. But in reality, in my class, this subject will be taught very deeply.”

”...In this classroom, you must discard the ingrained modern magic theories formed in your mind—whether it’s Dimension Theory, Unified Information Theory, or any other strange theories, discard them completely—then let the classics of ancient sages re-nourish your blank mind.”

”...In my classes, the various classics I quote, whether it’s the Du Renjing Annotation, the Nan Hua Jing Annotation, the Laozi Annotation, the Taiping Qingling Book, the Biography of Magic Arts, or the Su Wen, Nei Jing, Divination Art, etc., the contents I quote are probably what you’ll encounter in your final exam...”

”So... pull yourselves together! Take good notes!”

The old professor on the podium pronounced his lecture notes in a rhythmic cadence, like a mage reciting scriptures in a temple, and within a few minutes, he successfully dampened the exuberant enthusiasm of these young wizards who had just returned to school.

When Zheng Qing finished a section of notes and looked around, he noticed seven or eight figures slumped over their desks, starting to doze off, and highly doubted whether it was a new variant of post-holiday syndrome this year, or a powerful sleeping spell hidden in the old professor’s lecture.

After confirming that Professor Xihua was not very concerned about classroom discipline, the person in the blue robe beside Zheng Qing completely unleashed himself.

In less than an hour of class, Jiang Hua had already folded three paper frogs, dispatched five paper cranes, finished a comic book, and drew dozens of special variations of battle formations in his empty notebook.

”I’m the leader of the Starry Sky Hunting Team, got a lot to worry about, don’t blame me, don’t blame me.” Perhaps noticing the gaze from the side, Jiang Hua muttered while replying to a distant message: ”... Wait until you become a hunting team leader, then you’ll know how tiring this job is! So many things to care about!”

The floating feather pen on the notebook hesitated slightly.

Zheng Qing wanted to say that he was also a hunting team leader, but not as busy as he was. However, due to the limitations of Time Conversion, he ultimately remained silent and continued taking notes.

If Xin Fat Man came to attend the Time Conversion class, he would probably be so choked up after a class that he’d swell another round, Zheng Qing thought with a silent smile, but quickly restrained the slight smile.

Without Doctor Xiao, he’d have to rely on himself for this subject.

”Whoa! Your notes are really neat!”

After tossing another paper frog onto the ground, the person in the blue robe craned his neck to glance at Zheng Qing’s notebook, full of admiration: ”You must be from Jiuyou Academy... The wizards from Alpha rarely take notes like you do! How about lending me your notes to review before exams? I’ll give you a few VIP tickets to the Starry Sky Hunting Team’s competition, of course, it’s a private competition, but you’ll absolutely get to study the hunting skills of the best team at the First University up close...”

The feather pen floating above the desk leaned back and swayed a bit.

That was Zheng Qing scratching his chin with the feather.

He had never thought before that tickets could be sold for school hunting team competitions. Theoretically, the Atonement Hunting Team was not much lesser than the Starry Sky Hunting Team, so there was no reason for the Starry Sky Hunting Team to sell tickets to make money and the Atonement Hunting Team couldn’t!

He made a note of this thought, deciding to discuss it with Xiao Xiao in the dormitory that night.

Just then, a paper frog accidentally hopped onto Zheng Qing’s leg, spreading out its belly and unfolding a piece of letter inside. Zheng Qing immediately spotted the words ”Zheng Qing” on it and shivered, instinctively grabbing the paper.

Jiang Hua’s big head leaned over and glanced at the letter.

”Tsk, I’ve told them before, they must master the art of secret language, otherwise they can’t even fold a decent paper frog.”

He complained about the unreliability of his companions’ message carriers while nodding thoughtfully: ”Hmm... indeed, you also saw this piece of news, didn’t you? Amazing... this kid must be the youngest teaching assistant in the school... Do you think he got this teaching position by relying on Su Councilor? I wonder how he managed it! I bet that every warlock in the school—I’m referring to the four academies, not including that Edge Academy—wants to crack open that guy’s skull to see what’s hidden in the folds of his brain with such amazing girl-catching skills! I mean, if such a chance came.”

The paper that was floating in mid-air fluttered slightly as if swept by the wind, then gently wafted down in front of its rightful owner.

While in his invisible state, Zheng Qing calmly took another Invisibility Talisman from the grey cloth bag and hung it on his body, activated it, and stacked the state just to be safe.
