High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2150: Chapter 371: The Fringe Hunting Team’s Mission

”Winter Hunting?”

Jiang Yu rolled a jade bead between her fingers and looked skeptically at the earnest boy and the timid little witch in front of her, confirming, ”Is that right?”

”That’s right, no doubt about it!” Li Meng answered assertively.

”Then it’s definitely not right.”

Jiang Yu gave the little witch a sideways glance and snorted, ”If it were such an ordinary issue, you would definitely have tripped him up with some random nonsense, rather than agreeing so straightforwardly.”

Zheng Qing and Li Meng were instantly left speechless, mouths agape.

Indeed, based on Li Meng’s usual behavior, if it were just an ordinary discussion, she would probably have replied with something bothersome like ’Did Mr. Zha ask me what to send Councilor Su for Thanksgiving?’ or ’Did Zheng Zha take a liking to another junior?’ She would never have given Zheng Qing a smooth pass.

”Wronged, I tell you!” Li Meng wiped the corner of her eyes, showing a pitiful look.

Zheng Qing hesitated whether to betray his ’business partner’ from a minute ago, anyway, she hadn’t said anything worse yet, and their transaction—

Thinking of their transaction made the warlock feel a headache and immediately lose any ground for argument.

”Whether it’s a misunderstanding or not, we’ll talk about it later.”

Jiang Yu casually concluded the matter and then changed the topic: ”Just now, when leaving the office building, I happened to see someone post a mission to capture three blue-mouthed pheasants, with a reward of three jade coins... and I claimed the mission on behalf of the Absolution Hunting Team. Today is... is...”

At this point, the witch’s words paused, and her fine eyebrows furrowed slightly.

”Today is Tuesday, and Thursday is Thanksgiving!” Zheng Qing, observing her expression, quickly caught on to Jiang Yu’s unfinished meaning and hurriedly spoke up: ”We have a whole day to catch those blue-mouthed pheasants... absolutely doable!”

He patted his chest loudly.

The witch glanced at the warlock, her eyes curving with a slight nod: ”Then the hunting team training for the next two days will temporarily change to capturing blue-mouthed pheasants on the edge of Silent Forest. I’ll go prepare the materials now and try to get triple approval before dinner.”

Since completing the advanced task last month, the Absolution Hunting Team became the twenty-eighth formally registered hunting team of First University, enjoying more privileges than ordinary registered teams—for example, eligibility to participate in large-scale hunting activities or competitions outside of school; the right to accept ’hunting’ tasks issued by the school or externally, and having special passes for free entry and exit during school hours, etc.

Because these missions not only count towards practice scores but also bring great benefits to the hunters, joining a formal hunting team has always been a wish for many First University students.

As for ’triple approvals’, it’s a shorthand term.

Even a formal hunting team needs the approval of the dean of the direct management academy, the First University’s Student Union, and the First University’s School Works Committee to enter Silent Forest on a weekday evening.

Just by hearing these names, it’s clear that obtaining approval is no easy task.

But after all, Jiang Yu is Jiang Yu.

Before dinner, Zheng Qing received a paper crane from the witch, stating that the Absolution Hunting Team’s permission to leave the school had been granted, with the gathering time tentatively set at 7:30 PM, at D&K, and a requirement for the hunters to be back at school by midnight.

”From 7:30 to midnight, that’s four and a half hours in total.”

Xin Fat Man counted on his fingers, frowning heavily as he analyzed: ”Taking out the time for coming and going, gathering, and preparation, we have at most four hours of hunting time... four hours to find three blue-mouthed pheasants that hide who-knows-where in Silent Forest, at night... are you crazy?”

He looked up and glared at Zheng Qing.

The young cost student pretended not to hear, concentrating on carefully polishing his Colt silver python with a fine velvet cloth, with a row of talisman bullets neatly arranged on the desk.

”Time is indeed a bit tight.” Xiao Xiao, also prepping for the hunt, pushed up his glasses and glanced at the fat wizard: ”But this mission isn’t a hunting competition; we don’t have to be as rigid as before, we can be a bit flexible...”

”Like?” Xin Fat Man blinked.

Zheng Qing also paused his work and looked at Xiao Xiao.

Although he had appeared calm just now, inside he felt uncertain, thinking there was a good chance they might find nothing tonight. With Thanksgiving on Thursday, there had recently been many missions to hunt pheasants; the foolish chickens that were easy to find have long been plucked clean, and the ones still lively in the woods are all clever birds.

”Like we could get Furry Bean to help.” Xiao Xiao pulled a blue-mouthed pheasant feather from his pocket and waved it in front of his two roommates: ”During hunting competitions, Furry Bean can’t participate... but for these private missions, we should leverage all resources available to us.”

”Also, it’s not four hours.” Dylan poked his head out of the coffin, lazily reminding: ”Today is Tuesday, tomorrow is Wednesday, so we have two nights for hunting, at least eight hours...almost equivalent to a whole day. If a registered hunting team can’t catch a few pheasants in eight hours, they might as well voluntarily apply to disband.”

Except for the last bit, Zheng Qing agreed with everything the blood werewolf said.

Thus, after dinner, as he headed to D&K with his companions, the worries on his face had almost vanished, replaced by his usual vitality.

As they passed a small grove, they happened to see Nicholas leading his hunting team out of the bushes, holding a wild fox with a spotted pelt. Upon seeing Zheng Qing, he instinctively hid the fox behind him.

”Night training?” The Fringe Hunting Team’s captain sized up Zheng Qing and his companions’ gear, giving a simple greeting.

The Absolution Hunting Team’s captain nonchalantly waved his hand, replying casually: ”Yeah, we took on an outside mission, might need to take a lap around Silent Forest tonight... you guys catching foxes? Seems like a lot of people are catching these little guys lately.”

He didn’t notice his companions behind him secretly exchange a few meaningful glances.

”At night?”

”Silent Forest?”

Hearing the Absolution Hunting Team’s response, some hunters in the Fringe Hunting Team showed envy, while Nicholas looked at Zheng Qing with an odd expression: ”You didn’t know?”

”Know what?” Zheng Qing looked bewildered.

Nicholas hesitated, lifting his prized catch slightly as if trying to convey some message to the young cost student.

Alas, Zheng Qing still looked confused.

”Nothing!” Liu Fei Fei quietly pinched Nicholas and then pointed to the little fox, offering an apologetic smile: ”The reward for this mission is very generous, so... well, we won’t disturb your training, happy hunting!”
