High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2117: Chapter 238: Politeness and Impoliteness

Why is your face as red as a bubble teapot!

Zheng Qing silently roared in his heart, while looking wistfully at his own tray - there were not the buns and millet porridge he wanted, but steak, juice, and egg rolls.

The sauce spread on the steak emitted obscure magical fluctuations, there was a layer of fine, star-like light floating on the juice, and the egg roll was topped with a thick layer of caviar.

This was a breakfast he could not afford.

But returning it now would really trouble the little girl in the window.

”How much?”

The young scholarship student sighed silently and touched his fairly full grey cloth bag.

”Hello, Senior!”

The little girl behind the window seemed to be electrocuted, her body stiffened suddenly, the tongs in her hand poked randomly in front of her, and she mumbled an incomprehensible response: ”My name is Chen Peizhi, I’m from Jiuyou Academy Magic Medicine 09-1 Class...currently working part-time here. I’m pleased to meet you, Senior! Could I get your autograph?”

She looked at the young scholarship student eagerly.

Zheng Qing had an impulse to pour a bucket of ice water over her head, but after thinking it over, he could only sigh, take out a gold bean with a pained expression, and hand it over.

This was definitely the most expensive breakfast he had ever had!

He felt like he could go a day, no, a week without eating again.

”No wonder you’re a wizard who can date Su Councilor,” Duan Xiao Jian moved closer to the young scholarship student, examining the food on the plate with amazement: ”At this breakfast level, even a smaller wizard family wouldn’t have it once a year!”

”Nobody would think you’re mute if you don’t speak!” Zheng Qing glanced at him unkindly.

The little girl behind the window took the gold bean with disappointment, completely unaware of the difference between it and five coppers. Though she was a bit disappointed at not getting an autograph, her gaze was still eager: ”Next time you can bring Poseidon to the cafeteria, we have the richest menu options on Buji Island!”

The Little Fox had always been popular among the witches.

Zheng Qing mumbled a response and went to an empty dining table with his tray.

Like Moses before the Red Sea, the young wizards before Zheng Qing parted to the sides, leaving a wide path, yet they continued to rudely stare at the scholarship student, whispering to each other, the warlocks with subtle eyes, and the witches with expressions more excited, sizing up Zheng Qing, seemingly wanting to know what Su Shijun saw in him.

Duan Xiao Jian followed beside him, seemingly enjoying the attention.

”I have to say, appearing in public like this isn’t a wise decision.” He rattled on, holding an empty tray: ”...Is this the doctor’s idea? Or, do you have some plan to improve the situation?”

He looked around inquisitively, then whispered into the young scholarship student’s ear: ”Do you really have Big Wizard guards by your side? Are they assigned by the school or from Qingqiu?”

The faces of a few wizards pretending to pass by with their ears perked up revealed a ’sure enough’ expression.

Zheng Qing had no intention of explaining anything anymore.

He knew that whatever he said now would be futile.

Therefore, he simply mumbled, while perfunctorily dealing with the babbling hunchbacked warlock beside him, eating the expensive breakfast as quickly as possible - a speed that could almost rival the Black Cat devouring that roast chicken mountain last night. Meanwhile, he had to maintain a level of ’decency’ to ensure that no photos of him gobbling would spread - he had reason to believe that, in unseen corners, there were definitely more than one Memory Flower blooming at him in the morning light.

When he drank the last bit of juice from his cup, tidying up the tray and standing up, a group of people stood up in the cafeteria, mostly young witches, giggling and playing, seemingly having plenty of time to spare.

”I’ll bet someone among them definitely wants to steal a march on Su Councilor.” Duan Xiao Jian enviously glanced around, stating very confidently and quietly to the young scholarship student.

Zheng Qing exerted considerable effort not to pull out a bundle of tongue-binding charms to plaster on this classmate of his. For this, he had to quicken his pace to leave.

In a picture frame hanging at the cafeteria entrance, a chubby wizard in a white chef’s outfit leapt out with extraordinary agility, like a chubby rabbit chased by a wild wolf, woosh! Disappearing without a trace.

Zheng Qing speculated it might have gone to other frames in the school to pass on the news.

This was one of the reasons rumors and gossip spread so quickly in the wizard world, you cannot shut the dead up, nor easily stop a ghost or a portrait from hopping through the Virtual Dimension.

Sure enough, when Zheng Qing arrived at the library, he saw that chubby cook in a portrait hanging by the entrance on the first floor, of a deceased professor.

It stood unabashedly beside the short professor, in the narrow frame crowded with gossipy portraits, pointing at the young scholarship student and whispering among themselves, as if celebrating.

Similarly, the living wizards were also like this, although there weren’t many people in the library on the weekend, the newsbringers still filled the library’s entrance hall, some latecomers had to stand on the second-floor gallery, leaning out to look down, the buzz unceasing.

Zheng Qing felt no sense of being a ’popular star,’ instead increasingly convinced he was some rare creature in a zoo, being surrounded and observed.

Fortunately, this was a library.

And the library has administrators.

Mr. Zhang, waving eight tentacles, angrily spat out rows of angular, pitch-black letters, sternly warning those who made noise and shoved in the library. After throwing out three warlocks and five witches by the scruff of their necks, the onlookers finally slightly restrained themselves, and Zheng Qing finally felt like he could breathe again.

He grabbed the book list and rushed into the depths of the maze of bookshelves without hesitation.

Nobody could find a deliberately hidden figure amidst a towering sea of books.

The bit of confidence accumulated during morning lessons was entirely consumed between the cafeteria and the library, and Zheng Qing couldn’t help but question if his brain had been disturbed by nightmares when he awakened in the morning, leading to such an impulsive decision.

”Hang in there a little longer.”

He stood before a quiet bookshelf, silently encouraging himself: ”Just show up a little longer, and everyone will eventually get used to it as before...”

”Perseverance can’t solve all problems; you look really unwell,” a concerned face squeezed out from the bookshelf, looking at the young wizard, softly suggesting: ”Perhaps you should check out this book... for some experience.”

Saying this, a corner of a thick book poked out from the shelf.

Zheng Qing noticed the title on the spine, ”Near-Death Experience,” and vaguely recalled seeing this book at Greenhill Mansion.

”No need, thank you.” The boy politely pushed the book back onto the shelf, dryly refusing: ”I’m just a bit anemic, I’ll be fine after a rest.”
