High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2139: Chapter 260: Light Snow

The next day was Sunday.

Sunday was light snow.

Both in terms of the solar term and in reality, it was indeed light snow.

At the break of dawn, tiny snowflakes began to drift down in the campus, resembling salt and sand, whispering softly, painting a thick grey-blue between the heaven and earth. Overnight, the world seemed to grow a tad colder.

The black cat weaved its way through the campus in small steps, shivering involuntarily.

Yes, the black cat.

After transforming into a cat and taking a stroll around the Wandering Bar last night, Zheng Qing thought his next transformation would be a week later. Unexpectedly, only a night had passed when he received a message from the Wandering Bar—it had recently received information about those ’Ravens’.

This forced the young cost student to perform the transformation again in a short amount of time.

”This is definitely the last time this week!”

The black cat muttered to itself, worried whether two consecutive transformations would cause transformation aftereffects as it moved carefully along the wall, avoiding the stray glances around.

This behavior stemmed both from the instincts of a feline and was also a conscious choice. After all, even at a Wizard University, a black cat wearing a mask and a ring strutting around in broad daylight was a bit too conspicuous.

Whoosh!

A silver-white barn owl flew silently over the black cat’s head, its claws clutching a large struggling frog. Its wide wings brought a chilling gust, stripping more warmth from the black cat.

The black cat hissed from the cold, shivering again involuntarily.

”Damn magic.”

It cursed softly, grumbling about how this art that twisted nature made two nocturnal animals meet in broad daylight, regretting not bringing out its ’Lion’s Mane’ and ’Fox Tail’.

With those two fluffy things, it would certainly be much warmer. But from another perspective, displaying those gifts in front of a notorious Black Wizard wasn’t exactly safe.

With a head full of complaints, the black cat deftly slipped through the same gap it used last night into the Wandering Bar. At the end of the gap was the same smiling Multi-arm Tribe Attendant waiting, the meeting place with the Wandering Wizard was the same small room on the second floor as last night.

”The reason cats are so fascinating is because no matter how hurried and anxious you are, they can always exhibit a lazy and yet alert nonchalance.”

This was the first thing the Wandering Wizard said upon seeing the black cat. He examined the black cat shaking its fur and added with a smile, ”This contradictory quality is captivating.”

”Damn fascination.”

The black cat cursed unapologetically, lifting a paw to adjust the small white mask on its face: ”Every member of the Seven Sins wears a mask for a reason... If we can’t maintain a low profile and stay secretive, then what is our mask worth to us?”

Though admittedly, for a cat, a mask doesn’t mean much.

The Wandering Wizard—this time appearing in his true form—pushed a cup of milk forward to the black cat approvingly, nodding: ”Agree... Allowing a masked cat to come to the Wandering Bar in broad daylight isn’t low-key. But the information we received is time-sensitive; the listing ’Hunters’ stated that if the task reward isn’t received in six hours, the deal will be canceled.”

The black cat, with a white milk mustache, looked up with a hint of confusion, ”Can they really do that? Why?”

”Many possibilities.”

The Wandering Wizard, adding ice to his gin, shrugged and analyzed briefly: ”Perhaps the Hunter needs to leave Buji Island this morning, or perhaps he needs to buy something and just lacks three jade coins; maybe he signed some Silence Contract, and six hours later won’t be able to reveal the related information... Of course, it’s also possible that the news will appear on the front page of the ’Beta Town Post’ in six hours, and he’s just trying to exploit the time difference for a quick profit... In any case, every unreasonable thing in the world has its very reasonable explanation... All you can do now is take a gamble.”

The black cat twitched its ears, frustratingly licking its lips.

Indeed, this was a gamble.

Either it bets that the Hunter has only a six-hour transaction window for other reasons, or it bets that the information will make the front page of the Beta Town Post—choosing the former, it only loses three jade coins; choosing the latter, it risks not only losing the lead but also having undergone a transformation and risking aftereffects by coming to the Wandering Bar in broad daylight for nothing.

The marginal cost could be considered quite high.

The Wandering Wizard did not hurry, merely stirring the ice in his glass patiently with a small silver spoon, though he was unsure what stirring one ice cube would achieve.

The black cat paced back and forth twice on the soft sofa and looked up at the bar owner: ”You just mentioned three jade coins, meaning this information only charges a minimum fee, with no additional fees?”

”After all, purchasing this information comes with great risk for you.” The Wandering Wizard nodded slightly.

”Bought it!”

The black cat decisively waved its paw—having earned quite a bit recently, with not much expenditure, the biggest downside of making quick money was that you don’t feel pain spending it.

Three jade coins were just thirty gold beans, merely a dividend from D&K, or the pay for a few assignments written by Doctor Xiao. This sense of occupying others’ labor made the cat feel quite peculiar.

The Wandering Wizard set down his wine glass, took out a small roll of parchment from under the bar, and showed the intact seal on the roll to the black cat, then used a talisman to open the seal.

The black cat counted out three jade coins and one gold bean, neatly placing them on the bar.

The jade coins were the fee for the information, while the gold bean was the Wandering Wizard’s commission.

The information was very straightforward—on the afternoon of November 17th, the First University Assistant Corps raided an illegal laboratory deep in Silent Forest, confiscating a large number of illegal experimental subjects, and among the items left on site were several unnumbered Raven masks.

Not only were there clear photos of those masks on the parchment roll, but there were also several photos related to those experimental subjects.

The black cat examined those photos, immediately confirming they were indeed the targets it had been searching for.

”November 17th, which was this Tuesday, the Cold Clothes Festival day.”

The black cat muttered, with ’Lion’s Mane’ and ’Fox Tail’ flashing through its mind again, it couldn’t help but shake its head and refocus: ”So, those guys have been quite active recently? What about the location? Why isn’t there a specific location in the information!”

”The related specifics must have been ’silenced’ by the Assistant Corps; getting such a coherent piece of information is quite an achievement in my opinion.” The Wandering Wizard tapped the glass wall with his silver spoon, looking very pleased.
