High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2138: Chapter 259: Ding! Ding!

The several terms on the task list are exceptionally eye-catching.

The Slag Morgan Laboratory and the Montreya Laboratory are similar, both funded by the First University and hosted by senior professors at the school. Their research subjects involve edge and taboo magic, while the Totem and Mental Field Theory Laboratory is more akin to the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab hosted by Su Shijun, with research areas involving the most cutting-edge magical theories of the current world.

These laboratories are the most important assets of the First University besides the students, and are under very tight protection. Not only do researchers entering and exiting the labs need to undergo multiple screenings, but even the school’s Protection Array remains on high alert for any unusual magic fluctuation around the laboratories 24/7.

It is no exaggeration to say that even an ant crawling near these laboratories would be clearly marked by the Protection Array, detailing its gender, age, whether its antennae are broken, and from where it came and to where it is going.

As for the other terms on the list—the Rat Immortal, needless to say, an ascended Legendary Wizard who created the Mouse Clan and is closely watched by the Moon Council; the Count Drete is a famous sixteenth-century mysticism researcher, and ”Corpse Eating Rituals” uncomfortably connects to the existence in the Deeps of Starry Sky.

Just a glance, and the Black Cat confirmed that apart from the task of collecting ’Double Yang Water’, there seems to be no other task on the list with any likelihood of being completed.

”All of these?”

The Black Cat’s question was abrupt, the voice sharp with an undertone of incredulous surprise, as if looking at a figure with a soul polluted by the existence in the Deeps of Starry Sky.

”Of course not.”

Although the guest was vague, the Wandering Wizard easily grasped the meaning behind the words, explaining in a mild tone and rapid speech:

”...The items listed in the task list are similar to your ’Raven Investigation’, most of which are commission tasks posted by other guests at the Wandering Bar... but we can guarantee that for any commission completed on the list, you will receive at least three pieces of information about dark organizations active within the First University... not just including names and contact details... if the commission task is completed with high quality, we can even provide more detailed materials about those dark organizations.”

”If we could sneak into Professor Slag Morgan’s laboratory, would we still need to trade with you?” The Black Cat laughed in annoyance, wanting to bite open the Wandering Wizard’s skull to see if it was just a puddle of water inside.

”It’s not necessarily about sneaking into the laboratory.” The Wandering Wizard giggled: ”For progress in labs like Professor Slag’s, there are always some researchers who, like male peacocks showing off their tail feathers to female peacocks, boast about their achievements in front of pretty witches—it’s a male tendency.”

The Black Cat fell silent.

After a while.

It tugged its ears, pulling them into a plane shape, suddenly changing the direction of its mockery: ”Do they know you’re selling their information?”

By ’they’, of course, it meant the ’rewards’ promised by the Wandering Wizard to the Black Cat—those messages about dark organizations.

”Everyone likes to make new friends.”

The Wandering Wizard slyly but appropriately responded to the Black Cat’s mockery, simultaneously raising the wine glass in his hand again to lightly clink with the glass before the Black Cat.

——ding

ding——

The two slender wine glasses separated in mid-air, the amber liquid inside swaying slightly, tiny stars twinkling, emitting an enchanting color.

”To a pleasant cooperation.” Duke Milton of the Moon Council courteously raised his wine glass, celebrating the completion of the commission agreement between the Wandering Bar and the council.

”To a pleasant cooperation.”

Standing opposite the duke, the bar owner sipped a little, the Wandering Wizard’s face clear, with distinct features, not merely a combination of mist and shadow, making his voice clearer: ”...Serving as the liaison between the Moon Council and the Northern District Wizard is not difficult, and Small Colma also desperately needs a powerful ally like the Moon Council; quashing rumors related to Su Councilor is no trouble at all. This is, after all, still a school. The children are very pure of mind, and their attention is easily diverted to fresher topics... only the last matter... since the Black Prison battle, the Rat Immortal has completely hidden his traces, although there are signs that the school and the Rat Immortal have reached some agreement, no one can find any concrete evidence... after all, he is a genuine legend.”

”So?” Duke Milton appropriately expressed his confusion.

”So for this last commission, we can only do our best, but can’t guarantee any promises.” The Wandering Wizard cautiously expressed his stance.

The pale-faced vampire swayed his wine glass.

”Doing your best is the best promise.”

He spoke slowly, with the typical tone of the Moonlight Nobles, sipping the wine and watching the small stars disperse from the glass, his eyes growing more wistful: ”Promises, hey... beautiful moments, golden years, whenever drinking it, it always allows one to forget this terrible world and those terrible things in it.”

The Wandering Wizard sitting opposite gave a low laugh.

The Wandering Wizard here had a clear face, with distinct features, not simply a blend of mist and shadow.

”What are you laughing at?” Duke Milton very sensitively glanced at the bar owner.

”Oh, just recalled an old saying,” the Wandering Wizard tilted his head, as if listening to another voice, his tone warm: ”The saying goes ’Memory is unforgettable, Amber Light makes one forget’... in this world, the bad things always leave more marks in life than the good ones.”

”Marks.”

The duke muttered, sipped from his glass again, and finally sighed deeply, unwillingly asking: ”That matter... does it have to involve burlap sacks? It does seem a bit unsatisfying, doesn’t it?”

The bar owner did not directly answer this question.

”When I was young, I once ran a divination shop.” The Wandering Wizard squinted slightly, his eyes seeming to gaze through the long river of time, seeing his younger self: ”It opened at twelve every night, tarot card reading until one, crystal ball until two, burning turtle shells until three, then began using smoke, tea leaves, and star signs for divination from four onwards... occasionally also complying with customers’ requests to listen to the whispers of spirits...”

”Did it work?” the duke asked with great interest.

”Oh oh oh, a very standard inquiry.”

The Wandering Wizard chuckled: ”There’s always a wizard asking ’Does your reading work?’, and then the usual next question is ’Can you forecast how my luck will be recently?’... most of the time, when you start worrying about your luck, your luck is already bad. So, reminding these guests to be extra careful is never wrong.”
