High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2110: Chapter 331: In the Beginning, No One Cared

Zheng Qing had heard a saying before: if you don’t know the traditions of a certain holiday, then choosing to eat dumplings is always right. Dumplings to holidays are like snake oil to potions—allegedly the ’cure-all’, but actually just ’jack of all trades’.

Yet, who knows if smearing snake oil all over oneself can cure one’s troubles.

Thinking of this, the young scholarship student couldn’t help but sigh deeply, picked up a dumpling, stuffed it in his mouth, chewed a bit, then squinted: ”What’s the filling of today’s dumplings?”

”Is it tasty?” The fat man gave him a glance.

Zheng Qing hesitated with a slight nod: ”Tasty, it’s tasty...”

”As long as it’s tasty, why so much nonsense!” The fat wizard impatiently waved his hand, continued to draft his article, muttering: ”If you don’t go buy it yourself, so much fuss!”

This stood on the moral high ground, Zheng Qing had no way to refute, only silently bit through a dumpling skin, carefully examining the filling inside.

After observing for a while, he could only determine the main filling was some kind of meat, fresh and smooth, completely different from ordinary fare. Several detection spells revealed no abnormalities, so the young wizard decided to enjoy the delicious meal with closed eyes.

Until he put down his chopsticks, pushed away the plate, and exhaled with satisfaction, Xin Fat Man finally put down the feather pen and sneered continuously at the young scholarship student.

”Stop talking!”

Zheng Qing waved grandly, stopping the fat wizard from speaking: ”Even if you speak, wait until I’ve digested... otherwise, it’s a waste of this delicious plate.”

”It’s not that serious.”

Leaning at the coffin edge, Mister Blood Werewolf lazily replied: ”Just a plate of frog meat dumplings... Fishmen love them the most... But I recall you don’t harbor such prejudice.”

Because Fishmen like them, frog meat is not considered refined, scorned by the old-school wizards. However, many young wizards don’t have such taboos, occasionally eating a few frogs for novelty.

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing breathed a big sigh of relief: ”Hah... scared me... did half a day of mental preparation... I was ready to hear a worse answer than ’Snail’. Frog meat, isn’t frog meat just water chicken? Good stuff, good stuff.”

Saying this, he opened his mouth wide, attempting to instruct the sprites to help him with toothpicking, but the leading sprite stuck out his tongue, dropped a toothpick, and flew off joyfully.

”Really getting less and less cute.”

The warlock muttered, grabbed a toothpick, swirled it around in his mouth, suddenly remembered something, turned to the fat wizard who had picked up the feather pen again: ”Wait, wizards don’t like frog meat, why sell frog meat dumplings today?”

”I know about this too.”

It was Dylan answering eagerly: ”It’s still that Nicholas petition thing, more and more people are paying attention these days, and someone specifically made a batch of frog meat dumplings distributed for free at the cafeteria entrance, don’t know if it’s aimed at Northern District Wizards.”

Mentioning the ’petition’ activity of the Northern District Wizards, originally only conducted outside school. But at some point, the school gradually saw many young wizards supporting the petition, with slogans like ’Please give me a frog’ printed on the back of their robes, passionately preaching the ’Mage Alliance unity’ idea, telling every willing listener about the tragic experiences of Northern District Wizards.

Since he always wore the Invisibility Talisman, Zheng Qing hadn’t been stopped by these ’preachers’, but he knew the Absolution Hunting Team had been stopped more than once by them.

Xin Fat Man suddenly coughed twice, raised the parchment in hand, and officiously read aloud:

”...The development of this movement may have long exceeded the initiators’ initial expectations, inevitably recalling the history before the birth of the 1862 ’Fairy Liberation Declaration’.”

”Initially, no one cared about those small, strange sub-species magical creatures, their efforts were just a few table boards, a few petitions; then came some banners, a few slogans; followed by demonstrations, insults, shoving; wizard shops were smashed, fairy secret realms destroyed; wizards drew law books, fairies raised their fingers. Later, more and more wizards and fairies began to bleed.”

”Someone once said, history doesn’t stupidly repeat, but smartly rhymes. Interestingly, even if repeated a thousand times, wizards never learn the lessons from the rhyme, failing to divinate how other groups’ interests relate to their future.”

”Perhaps this is why in the long history of wizards emerges rival after rival—knowing their club is in decline, continuously swallowed by the increasingly powerful Wizard World, unwilling to plainly die; or perhaps, at some future point, some wizard will realize, it is because of wizard society’s conservatism and stubbornness that they manufacture more and more enemies.”

”Offering a hand, wizards save themselves, not those weaker entities.”

”In the infinitely long history of the world, weak and strong are irrelevant, debates at certain meetings are irrelevant, what blocks wizards’ vision is only their own hand... how do you all feel about this report?”

After reading these paragraphs, Xin Fat Man bit the feather pen, full of anxiety: ”Though I feel it’s alright, I still think something feels odd...”

”Because your article tries to have everything, both having and standing.” Dylan mockingly sarcastically from the coffin side: ”Either you firmly support Northern District Wizards, or you firmly support frog meat dumplings... it makes no sense to want both frog meat dumplings and cherry blossom wine.”

”Did you get paid from both sides?” Zheng Qing raised an eyebrow, suspiciously scrutinizing the fat wizard.

The fat man was enraged, throwing down the feather pen with an air of ’you can’t insult my character’, yet what he said was amusing: ”The pen moistening... can pen moistening count as payment? Who writes for free? As the saying goes, ’A gentleman remains noble in poverty, a petty person becomes greedy in poverty!’”

Zheng Qing and Dylan exchanged glances, tacitly skipping the topic.

”Why are you crawling out of the coffin during the day?” The young scholarship student kindly and curiously asked: ”If I remember correctly, you shouldn’t have taken the potion these days at month’s end.”

Mister Blood Werewolf sighed gloomily: ”But today is the start of winter, and also the weekend... have to attend two banquets at noon, so wake early to cultivate an aura... because of the blood race early... if the werewolf banquet were first, wouldn’t need to care about such details... regular folks only attend one.”

”Your acceptance by both races exceeds my expectations.” Zheng Qing sincerely praised.

Dylan pouted: ”They accept not the other half of my lineage, but the surname of this half.”
