Chapter 2112: Chapter 333: The Weight of Life

Beelzebub’s question caught the Black Cat off guard.

Before it could think of an answer, the Sin Bearer eagerly declared, ”Of course, of course it participated. I went along, and it was amazing... and the scarecrow, it was burned, that throat ’burned Zheng Qing,’ the leader holding the sacrifice almost stumbled!”

The Black Cat listened without interest, not even considering a defense.

Because what the Sin Bearer said was true.

The Pig-headed Wizard seemed pleased, tore a leg from the roast chicken, and extended it to the Black Cat: ”Since we’re ’comrades,’ I can’t be too hard on you... If you’re not hungry, you’re not hungry. I’ll lower the difficulty a bit!”

It’s said, you don’t hit someone who’s smiling, and especially when this pig head is smiling and offering food. But ever since the horn blew the report, Zheng Qing seldom ate food from others. Even ordering someone to buy lunch, he would request the cafeteria seal on the box for maximum safety.

”Thank you, but I’m not hungry right now.”

The Black Cat politely but firmly declined the chicken leg, urging, ”Time is limited, let’s complete tonight’s exam quickly.”

”Not hungry?”

Mr. Gluttony blinked, clucked, and stuffed the leg into his own mouth, a bit bemused, ”I must admit, that’s bad news for your test tonight.”

Before he finished speaking, he took out a stack of napkins and a lunch box from his bosom.

The open napkin was an irregular square, about four or five meters in length and width, covering the whole small area under the Cat Fruit Tree.

Then he opened the lunch box and started pulling things out.

A roast chicken, a roast chicken, another roast chicken... When he reached the tenth one, the Black Cat belatedly realized this box must be some Space Equipment, and also guessed the content of tonight’s exam.

Until the roast chicken formed a mountain on the napkin, Beelzebub stopped the tedious task.

He clapped his greasy hands, spread his arms wide, and enthused, ”Isn’t a mountain of delicacies the most delightful thing?”

”Did you count the exact number?”

The Sin Bearer cautiously nudged the Black Cat, ”I lost track at two hundred seventy-six and couldn’t keep count after.”

The Black Cat shook its head slightly — it felt like each roast chicken could last it an entire day. If tonight’s exam was to finish this mountain, giving up early seemed wise.

Or perhaps, the Black Cat’s ears twitched, its eyes slightly narrowed, a thought popped into its mind.

”The test is simple!”

The Pig-headed Wizard circled the chicken mountain, gulping and explained, ”There are three hundred and sixty-five roast chickens here, each weighing exactly five hundred sixty-three grams, no more, no less... You now have two choices: either eat them all or find the one roast chicken weighing only five hundred sixty grams — the ’defective’ one. To a gourmet, nothing’s more infuriating than food out of spec! Whether eating or finding the ’defective’ item, you can only use your mouth and hands. No magic or other tools allowed. Get caught cheating, and you’re disqualified from joining the guild!”

”If you don’t have Giant or Ogre blood, I wouldn’t recommend the first option.” A Wizard in a white mask whispered in the Black Cat’s ear, ”The second one, maybe give it a try unless you can’t finish the mountain even with a Magic Potion for digestion, especially since...”

”Time limit, one hour!” Beelzebub shouted out another condition.

The Sin Bearer shrugged, as if telling the Black Cat, ”Especially since he won’t give you the whole night.”

”Is it that simple?”

The Black Cat ignored its ’senior’s’ advice and curiously asked the Pig-headed Wizard, ”So that’s it? No other conditions? Does talent count as cheating or using magic?”

”Simple?”

Beelzebub looked surprised at the Black Cat, then added while glancing at the big tree behind it, ”There’s no other conditions... But whichever option you choose, it must be completed by you alone... Otherwise, if some examinee keeps a hill Giant, three hundred or even three thousand chickens wouldn’t fill its stomach. Also, talent doesn’t count as magic. Otherwise, no normal Wizard could finish this mountain in an hour.”

”If I choose the first one, and find while eating the second chicken it’s underweight, can I switch choices?” The Black Cat continued questioning.

The Pig-headed Wizard shook his head, ”Once you decide, you can’t change.”

Several Big Cats slid down from the Cat Fruit Tree, meowing with raised tails, circling the chicken mountain, drooling.

The Black Cat turned, seeing more fruits on the tree opening their eyes, staring at the chickens.

”Keep an eye on your cat pack!”

Beelzebub warned, threateningly shooing a Big Cat sneaking toward’S chicken mountain,’ ”If your cats steal a bite... Even if you’ve eaten three hundred sixty-four of them, I’ll have to restock three hundred sixty-five and start over.”

”Rich indeed.” The Black Cat pouted.

It had just estimated that these roast chickens, priced at twenty-four bronze coins each on the Pedestrian Street, would cost seventy-three Gold Beans for three hundred sixty-five.

That meant just preparing for this test, Beelzebub had to spend seven jade coins and three Gold Beans, equivalent to most of a scholarship for a cost student for half a year.

If interrupted and repeated, the cost skyrockets!

”What’s the purpose of this test?” The Black Cat strolled lazily around the mountain, also using its gaze to scare away a few Big Cats.

The Big Cats tucked their tails and scurried off.

”Purpose?” Beelzebub sighed enviously, touching his pig mask, ”Naturally, to let you feel the weight of life...”

”So, in your view, life weighs just three hundred sixty-five roast chickens?” The Sin Bearer quipped.

”No, no, no,”

The Pig-headed Wizard raised a finger, waving it, ”I warned you, let him starve three days. If he truly starved three days, he’d not only have a greater chance to pass the exam but also deeply grasp... that the weight of life isn’t in the life-holder but the provider... like a cup of water in the desert or a bearskin coat in the icy wilderness.”
