High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2127: Chapter 248: Not Gray Gray

”...At that time, they were all standing by the lake, with their backs to me... They were probably planning to train, and the battle formation had not yet been deployed. By chance, I spotted that guy and casually tossed a soft leg charm over. He promptly fell ’plop’ headfirst into Lin Zhong Lake, spitting bubbles for quite a while. If it weren’t for the public nature of the scene, I estimate even the fishman in the lake would have given him some trouble...”

Speaking is a witch.

The Black Cat remembers that the only witch among the Seven Sins should be the lady codenamed ’Leviathan’, the Cat Mask Lady. In all of Black Cat’s assessments, only this cat-masked witch was the most serious and responsible, yet who knew who vexed this auntie.

As these thoughts slid through the mind, the Black Cat silently padded into the meeting room.

Due to height and sight issues, no one initially noticed the small, jet-black figure, as their gaze remained fixed on the witch.

”I remember their hunting team’s diviner is very skilled, dubbed ’Doctor’... Did he not detect you throwing out that soft leg charm?” The wizard wearing the bat mask asked in a deep voice.

As the first Seven Sins member to evaluate the Black Cat, Zheng Qing also had a significant impression of this ’Pride’ gentleman, although at this moment the attention was entirely focused not on ’Pride’ but on a certain word in his statement.

Doctor?

Diviner?

Hunting team training?

The Black Cat stood in the conference table’s shadow, eyes flashing with obscurity, face dark and unclear.

”... Perhaps he didn’t have the time.” The witch chuckled lightly, her cheerful voice resonating again in the not-so-large meeting room: ”When I acted, that diviner was negotiating with hunters from another hunting team. You know that team; it’s the biggest black horse in this school hunting competition.”

”Fringe Hunting Team,” someone instinctively said the name.

”I heard there’s a fishman in the Fringe Hunting Team; perhaps it’s the reason for their meeting by the lake.” Another voice speculated: ”Ever since last year’s mess, the School Works Committee has become increasingly strict with the Bell Lake fishman... I guess the hunter from the Fringe Hunting Team didn’t get permission to go ashore.”

The chatter in the meeting room continued, more and more news converging in the Black Cat’s ears, gradually helping it to sketch out a rough outline of the events in its mind — the Absolution Hunting Team was meeting with the Fringe Hunting Team at the lakeside of Bell Lake, unexpectedly a soft leg charm was tossed out from behind a bush, hitting the Absolution Hunting Team Leader, causing him to topple into Lin Zhong Lake.

Hey.

The Black Cat squatted motionless under the conference table, expressing a quirky sentiment, silently mourning for its classmate Dylan who impersonated it for three seconds. If it wasn’t for the mood tonight, it might have been itself in trouble.

Just then, a soft ”hmm?” sounded by its ear, prompting it to tilt its head, following the sound; there it saw a chubby man in a pig-head mask who had somehow crawled under the table, laboriously picking up a meat jerky fallen to the ground, looking at the Black Cat with undisguised astonishment.

The Black Cat cleared its throat lightly, unhurriedly approaching the pig-head mask, snuffling near that piece of meat jerky.

”What is this?” Its attitude was mild, tone casual.

As if chatting below the table were a perfectly normal thing.

The Fat Wizard raised the piece of meat jerky in his hand, voice slightly strained: ”This? A bloodless, firewood-dry meat jerky, allowing you to savor the simplest and purest meat flavor, perfect for grinding teeth and passing the time... want some?”

”No, thank you.”

The Black Cat politely declined, completely ignoring the other six masks similarly crammed under the table, turning around, sprang onto an empty chair, hopping three times, then leapt onto the center of the conference table.

Looking around, those seven masks again appeared neatly above the table, as if the scene it had seen below the table was all an illusion.

”What a pity,” the pig-head mask wizard shrugged strenuously, licking the meat residue on his hands, voice ambiguous: ”This kind of meat jerky can sell for two silver dimes in the market.”

The Black Cat twitched its ears, ignoring Beelzebub’s sales pitch, elegantly and slowly meandering around the table, the ruby ring on its ankle gleaming with a deep luster in the room.

”Everyone continue, no need to pay attention.” It chuckled, paying no heed to the scrutinizing gazes around, tone natural and familiar: ”...Belfinger, how did you find the assessment last time? If there are similar projects, feel free to hand them over to me, guaranteed satisfaction!”

It enthusiastically greeted the bird-headed mask wizard.

The words weren’t entirely tangential either, the laziness-labeled gentleman Belfinger was generous; only one business deal, and the Black Cat made nearly a hundred gold beans, nearly equivalent to its annual scholarship.

”Sure, sure.” Belfinger chuckled, touching his bird beak.

While speaking, the Black Cat had already strolled over to the witch who was at the center of the topic earlier, giving her a once-over.

”Why are you wearing such oddly colored robes today?” It was genuinely curious, as Miss Jealousy not only opened its eyes with her speech tonight, but her robe color also made the cat ’refresh its senses’.

She didn’t wear the usual inky heavy robes like other ’sins’, but wore a silvery-gray outfit, very much like satin, the material flashing charmingly in the flickering candlelight.

”Odd?”

The witch’s eye corners hidden under the cat mask slightly twitched: ”This is Morandi color! ... As for why, can I say it’s to welcome the new Sin Bearer Big Cat, to express my respect? Furthermore, is there a regulation in the Seven Sins saying we can’t wear other colored robes?”

Her severe gaze swept over the other six masks, promptly receiving nods one after another.

”Never said.”

”Indeed, no regulations.”

”As long as you’re not afraid to reveal your identity, even coming to the meeting naked, I wouldn’t care...”

Saying the last sentence was the ’Lust’ gentleman Asmodeus, wearing the goat-head mask. Among everyone present, the Black Cat dealt with him the least because on the night of Asmodeus’ assessment, coinciding with the ’Burn Zheng Qing Da Parade’, the goat-head gentleman was intent on participating in the parade, which made it easy for the Black Cat to pass the assessment.

”Silence!”

The Black Cat raised its paw before Miss Jealous could flare, casting a ray of light to seal the goat-headed man’s mouth, simultaneously curiously looking at the witch, trying to return the topic to normalcy: ”...What is Morandi color?”

The witch glared viciously at the indiscreet goat-headed man.

Then look at the Black Cat, her gaze softening a bit, tone still slightly rigid: ”A color that’s not gray but gray, belonging to a trendier, high-class shade in recent years... Just like you, a cat that’s not a cat, appears very formidable.”

The Black Cat, hearing this, paused in shock.

Unable to determine whether the witch was complimenting it, or had an ulterior motive.
