High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2109: Chapter 330: Beginning of Winter

Zheng Qing would not engage in a three hundred-round battle with Li Meng.

Absolutely not!

That’s a choice with no benefits—winning invites ridicule, losing not only invites ridicule but might also infuriate the ’parents’ of the little girl; not winning or losing but just showing up would bring more than just ridicule to the young cost student.

Needless to say, the ’burn them’ parade from last night was less than twenty-four hours ago.

Zheng Qing didn’t want to rekindle the enthusiasm that had just dissipated among everyone at such a critical moment. So, while the little witch spun around, cursing and jumping, he stayed silent, hiding in an empty seat.

Of course, Li Meng’s audacity was curtailed before Jiang Yu arrived.

When the Monitor of Astronomy Class 08-1 appeared at the classroom door, the little witch quickly retreated to her seat in the blink of an eye, opened the textbook in front of her, and put on a serious pre-study look, causing a burst of laughter in the classroom—it’s completely appropriate to say the eldest sister is like a mother in this situation.

The class meeting in the evening was lackluster.

The host of the class meeting was still a projection of Dean Yao, who only read the latest announcements from the academy by rote and arranged the midterm exams starting in the next week (which is the tenth week), doing little else.

This left Zheng Qing, who was expecting the academy to deal with last night’s crazy parade, quite disappointed.

As the saying goes, ’the law does not punish the masses,’ he didn’t actually expect the academy to really do anything about the students who participated in the parade yesterday, but openly advocating burning a student, from any angle, was a bit excessive. The academy should at least remind or warn them, right?

Perhaps in the eyes of many professors, that parade was seen as just the right amount?

The inexplicable meaning behind such an attitude made the young cost student shiver and increasingly keen to execute Doctor Xiao’s invisible man plan.

The invisible days flew by quickly.

Before he knew it, another week passed.

The good news is, being an invisible man feels pretty good.

Maybe the crazy parade on Halloween night really exhausted most of the students’ grievances on campus; maybe the enthusiasm for any news in this era only lasts for three days; or maybe the Moon Council with Councillor Su quietly removed the firewood from under the boiling cauldron.

In any case, the news about Su Shijun’s husband and child within First University quickly drowned in more and more new noises—inside the campus, like the midterms of Jiuyou Academy, the newly emerged defending king of the Starry Magic Cube, the grand dance at Alpha Castle, and the ’Thousand People, Thousand Voices Sutra Recitation Ceremony’ at Atlas Tower; and outside the campus, like the big debate in the Moon Council about admitting Mouse People into the Upper House, the Dark Council signing a treaty on ’no dimensional experiments,’ and the discovery of a treasure left by a Legendary Wizard by the Super Hunting Team ’Hydra’ in another domain.

In addition to that, there was also news between inside and outside the campus, like Nicholas’s ’petition campaign.’

All these things seemed to have been agreed upon to pour into the lives of the young wizards, with each event diverting a part of the students’ attention, so that by the end of the tenth week of the term, or the first weekend of November, apart from a few people in Li Meng’s ’Su Su Support Group’ looking for and chasing Zheng Qing, First University seemed to have completely returned to the ’peace and quiet’ of two weeks ago.

”That girl just has too little homework! Too much free time! Bored to death!”

Zheng Qing sat at his dormitory desk, chopsticks in hand, poking at the dumplings on his plate, muttering: ”I’d make her look good if it was convenient right now!”

”How would you make her look good? Beat her up?” Xin Fat Man mocked unceremoniously, parroting Zheng Qing’s phrasing: ”It’s just that the Monitor has a good temper; otherwise, it wouldn’t just be Li Meng chasing you...at the very least, every assignment you hand in would be torn to pieces!”

”Speaking of which, haven’t you had a heart-to-heart with Jiang Da Headmaster recently?” Dylan leaned on the edge of the coffin, his head drooping outside, warning lazily: ”Previously, you could claim it was a blindfold trick, but now that the child has been made public, you need to avoid suspicion and clarify things as needed...if you start messing around and then just leave it, it won’t be just a few girls chasing you. This is no joke!”

”In this affair, Matthew’s uncle and that young Werewolf Clan prince would be more than happy to help.” The Fat Wizard added in a schadenfreude tone.

Zheng Qing let out a deep sigh.

Because of Poseidon’s existence, Zheng Qing was solidly labeled as a ’scumbag.’ Jiang Yu received much sympathy in the class—their romance, though not publicly declared, had an ambiguous atmosphere that had been brewing in the class for quite some time, known to nearly everyone. Adding to that, with Elena gone without notice, seemingly leaving voluntarily from an outsider’s perspective, he and Jiang Yu’s relationship in Astronomy Class 08-1 was once quite well-wished.

Until that report in the horn daily came out.

Perhaps worrying that Jiang Yu might not think things through, lately, whether she went somewhere, there were always three or five witches surrounding her, like a tangible firewall.

Wearing only the Invisibility Talisman, Zheng Qing couldn’t make himself ghosted, passing through that tangible barrier, so since the Hunting Competition ended until now, he hasn’t really had a chance to talk to the witch properly.

The reason for saying ’almost’ is that they did meet privately a few times.

Here, using ’two people’ seems inappropriate because the ones meeting were two cats. Last Sunday after the class meeting, annoyed, Zheng Qing turned into a cat again and went to the Cat Fruit Tree, then saw the Little White Cat already there, which greatly delighted him, explaining his ’special’ relationship with Su Shi enthusiastically.

But unlike the Black Cat, the Little White Cat doesn’t talk and seemingly wasn’t interested in hearing the Black Cat speak, lazily basking in the moonlight for a while before quietly leaving.

In the following days, the Black Cat went to the Cat Fruit Tree every night, but the White Cat came sporadically, and even when it did, it wasn’t as spirited as before, leaving the Black Cat quite melancholic.

So, when hearing Mister Blood Werewolf’s warning again, the young cost student genuinely felt like he was stepping on two boats, unable to decide—which made him greatly admire the wisdom of the ancients.

”Why the sudden craving for dumplings today?” Not wanting to continue wasting time on this unsolvable choice, Zheng Qing asked randomly, poking at the dumplings on his plate: ”Actually, I’d rather have longevity noodles...”

”It’s not even your birthday, what’s the point of having longevity noodles.” The Fat Wizard retorted: ”Besides, even though you’re an invisible person now, you can’t live your life in a daze...today is the start of winter, eat dumplings to supplement mouth void...actually I think it’s your conscience that’s empty.”
