High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2124: Chapter 245: Law Book Liberation Association

In the next few days, Zheng Qing’s activity was strictly confined between the dormitory, classroom, and library. Except for the cafeteria and the morning class at the Flying Garden, he didn’t even go to the Pedestrian Street.

The ”Shaman Magic Dictionary” recommended by Jiang Yu was borrowed from the library on the second day, and he personally prepared a small bottle of Moonlight Magic Essential Oil.

Whether it was due to the exceptional effectiveness of this magic potion, or for some other reason, the young cost student no longer exhibited any aftereffects from the transformation since that evening.

This led him to gradually become lax.

Having some leisure time allowed him to pay attention to other big and small happenings in the academy.

”That weekend gathering Xu Qingmu mentioned earlier, do you plan to attend?” On Saturday noon, Zheng Qing was lazily lying in his dormitory, watching Doctor Xiao sitting stiffly at the desk, when he suddenly remembered something.

Xu Qingmu was a freshman from the 09th grade, someone Zheng Qing had a brief encounter with in the library a few days ago, leaving a deep impression on him.

”Maybe.”

Xiao Xiao gave an ambiguous answer, holding a silk cloth in his hand, carefully wiping the bamboo slip law book — Zheng Qing felt that within just a month, the bamboo was already developing a patina from Doctor Xiao’s constant handling.

A few sprites landed on Zheng Qing’s shoulder, the warlock tilted his face, allowing them to fiddle with his ear piercings using small tweezers, while he pondered: ”I feel the atmosphere in the academy has been a bit subtle lately... when the final exams are still months away, and everyone’s not paying much attention to gossip... what do you think everyone’s been up to?”

”What’s your point?” Xiao Xiao glanced at him.

Zheng Qing took a sharp breath, his face crumpling — he had to admit, the sprites’ ear-picking skills were exceptionally superb, making it very enjoyable — he tried hard for a while to clear up the shattered thoughts: ”I mean... do you think what the elders said a few days ago about Alpha and Jiuyou stirring things up again is true? Just like Sima from your home said, wizards don’t learn from history, they just keep repeating it.”

During last weekend’s class meeting, Zhang Ji Xin brought up this topic, so due to boredom in the following days, Zheng Qing deliberately paid attention to the surrounding atmosphere, but didn’t feel the same frenzy and sharpness as last year.

Especially the fishmen from Lin Zhong Lake, who have been exceptionally well-behaved during this time.

Xiao Xiao shook his head: ”If you think students from Alpha and Jiuyou Academy will start throwing evil curses at each other with law books, that’s unrealistic. First of all, the atmosphere isn’t at that level... last year was different because the Hunting Competition set the stage, and everyone’s emotions were more intense... as for how things will develop this year or my views on history, I’ll only say, history doesn’t repeat rigidly, it merely rhymes.”

Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows.

”Would you dare repeat what you said before Sima at your house?”

”No, I wouldn’t.”

The doctor answered swiftly, simultaneously employing his conversation skills as a diviner, ambiguously summarizing: ”Just like the famous wizard society theoretical analyst Aldous Leonard Huxley said in ’Return to the Brave New World’: ’Use tranquilizers to calm the frenzy of the agitated, stimulants to awaken the passion of the indifferent, and psychedelics to anesthetize the nerves of the tragic and pitiful’... those beings from the Deeps of Starry Sky will use fear and pain to control people, while the powerless ambitious ones on campus can only exploit the blind and passionate youth. From the gossip between you and Su Councilor, to the hidden conflicts between Jiuyou and Alpha, and then the ’give me a frog’ phenomenon, it’s essentially the same.”

Here it comes again, here it comes again.

Zheng Qing drooped his face, deeply sighed, feeling that even the sprites’ ear-picking lost its charm. Every time the conversation with the doctor went deeper, it made him feel like a child, the courage he had once had while debating with the doctor on the plane when first entering the school, had long worn out within a short year.

He tried hard for a while but couldn’t catch the key points of Xiao Xiao’s words — for a brief moment, he even suspected the doctor was just rambling to distract him — yet vaguely, he felt there was indeed some profound meaning hidden in the doctor’s choice of words.

Right at this moment, the dormitory door was pushed open forcefully, even before seeing the person, Xin Fat Man’s angry voice was heard: ”The Law Book Liberation Association is a cancer!”

Zheng Qing let out a breath of relief internally, then immediately turned his head towards the door, with a tone carrying a bit of curiosity: ”Law Book Liberation Association? What happened now?”

The Law Book Liberation Association is a relatively famous wizard organization throughout First University and even within the Alliance, with members scattered across four academies, mainly composed of Alpha Academy students.

The association’s purpose is to advocate that magic should return to ’traditional values’, liberating law books that have been ’inhumanely’ utilized by wizards, believing gestures, seals, and even seal-free casting are the correct approaches — this vague but ’correct’ philosophy is highly praised among magic wand devotees, restorationists, and ambitious individuals in wizardry fraternities, which attracts some naive youngsters in schools.

Zheng Qing first heard about this name during the magic spell course on the first semester of freshman year, when Old Yao mentioned the term ’noble syndrome’ while explaining ’law books’ to the classmates. At that time, he didn’t think much of it, considering nobody would join such a foolish association, yet later learned that this association has nearly a hundred formal members.

The Absolution Hunting Team privately discussed this situation, collectively believing it’s because the ideology of the Law Book Liberation Association is too ’correct’, standing on moral high ground, resulting in no one being cold-blooded enough to rationally counter their theories when they promote their ideals.

Of course, it can’t be ruled out that some students joining this association simply use it as an excuse for poor magic grades.

Recently, Zheng Qing kept hearing this name connected with ’please give me a frog’, apparently the Law Book Liberation Association was actively pushing the agenda internally in the social union and student council for Northern District Wizards to enter Jiuyou Academy.

”Those lunatics, in order to support Northern District Wizards, actually proposed the ’proportional admission’ suggestion at meetings involving the Alliance and the school,” Xin Fat Man said disgustedly: ”They request Jiuyou Academy to allocate certain admission spots to Northern District Wizards proportional to the registered wizards, and enrolled students in the wizard world and the academy... by eliminating the current students with lower grades, making room for Northern District Wizards.”

Zheng Qing was dumbfounded.

”Crazy, truly crazy.” He muttered, suddenly frowning: ”Isn’t it possible that those guys aren’t backing the Northern District Wizards but are actually backstabbing them?”

Undoubtedly, this proposal will touch upon the interests of all enrolled students at Jiuyou Academy, facing fierce backlash, and consequentially, Northern District Wizards will certainly suffer unwarranted disasters too.
