High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2136: Chapter 257: Two Objectives

During the last Seven Sins meeting, the Black Cat suddenly realized that its predecessor hadn’t passed on the network of the Seven Sins to it, causing the entire organization’s activities to come to a sudden halt.

Of course, using the word ’halt’ is a bit serious because the activities of the Seven Sins were originally very low-profile and quiet, like a snake lurking in the grass, and now it just shows signs of hibernation.

The Black Cat came to the Wandering Bar today to ’pour some warm water’ on the hibernating snake to make it active again. This was also the suggestion given to the Black Cat by Mr. Arrogance and Miss Jealousy at the end of the last internal meeting of the Seven Sins—compared to finding the completely traceless and vanished former Sin Bearer, reconstructing a new network of connections seems more traceable.

After all, there will always be a few Black Wizards hidden on this island, like the thread caught when unraveling a cocoon. Following their traces, it is not difficult to find the way back into the ’Underground World’.

Considering the unknown organizations in the dark side of the school, they probably don’t have very close connections with each other. Or in other words, in a market lacking mutual trust and a sense of security, every transaction by every participant should be treated as the first transaction between strangers—this approach is conservative but also the most reliable.

And the most famous of the ’underground organizations’ in the whole First University, or rather, the entire Buji Island, is nothing other than the bar opened by the Wandering Wizard on the Pedestrian Street.

It is the first and the most solid ’thread’ held in the paw of the Black Cat. By pulling this thread, it can shake a secret and huge web.

This bar is like a gateway standing between darkness and light, open to each and every try-hard, accommodating the widest array of malice and unwarranted speculations on the island.

Sometimes Zheng Qing has to admire the wit and wisdom of the Wandering Wizard, able to have a broad reputation in the Dark World and yet live steadily in the Light World.

Of course, today’s visit to this place is not to seek shopkeeping tips from the owner of the bar.

”Having a shadow receive customers is hardly becoming of a host.”

The Black Cat’s casual voice echoed in the small private room, and a few startled fireflies suddenly withdrew their abdominal glow, causing the room to dim slightly.

This dimming was extremely subtle, not affecting the vision of the bar owner and guest at all.

The Wandering Wizard’s gaze slightly lingered between the small white mask on the Black Cat’s face and the Ruby Ring on its paw wrist, then he raised a hand to adjust the brim of his Pointed wizard hat.

”I apologize.”

His voice was low, his manner gentle, and quite polite: ”Tonight, there are more guests in the bar, if there is any negligence, I ask for your understanding... Of course, guests who come to the Wandering Bar this late probably won’t mind being served by a shadow or a Multi-Armed person, or even a mouse.”

The Black Cat’s expression paused for a moment, its tail tip forgetting to continue swaying.

Before it could understand the subtle meaning between the examples given by the Wandering Wizard, the shadow wearing the Pointed wizard hat voiced that pleasant sound once more: ”However, if I knew that a guest from the Seven Sins was coming tonight, my true self would surely provide better hospitality... I had heard that the Seven Sins had a new Sin Bearer, never thought I’d meet so soon... I’m glad that the basic communication and trust between our two organizations can continue as always.”

The Black Cat was again momentarily stunned.

Tonight, coming to the Wandering Bar, it had two purposes: one was to issue a task to the Wandering Bar to collect information concerning ravens; the other was to reestablish contact with the Wandering Bar. And if it could get information on other dark side organizations from the Wandering Wizard, it would be even better. All this required it to establish an initial trust with the Wandering Wizard.

Yet it didn’t expect that upon meeting the guy with the Pointed wizard hat, the second purpose was already half-achieved.

”How about a drink?”

The Wandering Wizard took out a bottle of Amber Light from the cabinet and poured a small cup for the Black Cat, opening his mouth for the third time, continuing to steer the conversation: ”As the saying goes, ’Memory is unforgettable, Amber Light lets you forget everything,’ a drink to the past, to the long-standing and trust-filled connection between the Wandering Bar and the Seven Sins; a drink to the present, that only by forgetting the past can one truly start anew... I wonder what the new Sin Bearer from the Seven Sins wishes to enlighten us at the humble establishment today?”

The conversation was finally handed over to the Black Cat.

The Black Cat absentmindedly flicked the cup in front of it with its paw, contemplating within for quite a while before clearing its throat: ”I have a friend...”

The shadow wearing the Pointed wizard hat let out a low chuckle.

The Black Cat emphasized rather annoyedly: ”I really have a friend... He recommended your shop, saying that you can get information here that isn’t available on the market, so I’d like to... Oh, I also don’t know how to address you?”

For the first time, it realized it never seemed to know the name of the Wandering Wizard; in fact, the young cost student had dealt with the Wandering Wizard quite early on, yet it never had such a somewhat formal and serious talk as tonight.

The Wandering Wizard slightly bowed, adjusting his hat brim once more.

”The first time we meet, you can call me whatever you like.” He chuckled lowly, his attitude casual, his voice calm: ”Wanderer, Wandering Wizard, the old man of Palermo, the Black Wizard of the Pedestrian Street, that guy with the Pointed wizard hat, etc... Names for us strangers living in the shadows are merely meaningless codes...”

”Alright, old man.”

The Black Cat lifted a paw, interrupting the rambling shadow before it, and slightly quickened its speech: ”Two things for tonight, the first thing is just to say hi, after all, a newcomer has to maintain relations with old clients... By the way, if you have a list of other dark organizations here, could you spare me a copy? Lately, there has been a trend of burning scarecrows at the school, someone in the Seven Sins accidentally burned the parchment recording those organizations in our office...”

It lied without a blush—of course, it was hard for anyone to see if a Black Cat was indeed blushing—it didn’t expect the old hand across to believe its reasons, only to provide a bargaining start for both parties.

”A lot of things have indeed been burned lately.” The Wandering Wizard thought of something unknown, chuckling low but didn’t explain much or immediately agree. Instead, he asked: ”What’s the second thing?”

The Black Cat unhappily pulled at its ears.

”The second thing, consider it a ’person finder’s notice’.” It straightened its character, simply asking: ”Have you seen a group of Wizards wearing Raven Masks?”
