High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2121: Chapter 242: The Voice Xiao Xiao Can’t Hear

The mist cleared away.

Three challengers were tied up like rice dumplings by thick vines and hung on a plane tree nearby, their faces flushed as they struggled, unable to break free for a moment.

The young scholarship student they surrounded was long gone.

Zheng Qing was ultimately able to walk openly in Jiuyou Academy, not by relying on a simple hood or the face of Su Daxu, nor his ordinary looks, and certainly not the peculiar nicknames given by Ms. Pulitzer.

In a Magic School, it’s always magic that speaks.

After defeating dozens of various challenges, the male students of Jiuyou Academy finally pinched their noses and tacitly accepted the understated presence of a certain shameless individual.

Of course, the young people of Jiuyou generally still abide by the rules and want to save face.

A blatant sneak attack wouldn’t happen, and they understand the reasoning behind standing firm after getting beaten. As for why they confine these outcomes to the academy, it’s simply because these experiences are too ’humiliating’ to boast about, and they’re happy to see the students of other academies getting bruised and battered.

As the saying goes, it’s better for everyone to get hit than to suffer alone.

This also leads to the fact that although Zheng Qing repelled wave after wave of challengers, uninvited guests occasionally appeared in front of him, spouting wild words.

Of course, no matter how low-key the beaten ones remained, as more people got beat, the fewer wanted to come for more. Like today’s trio from different academies, they’re the only ones getting beaten in the past twelve hours.

”Hey, now it seems only the jerks from the other three academies are foolish enough to cause trouble.”

A round-faced warlock among the onlookers had a disappointed but unsurprised expression: ”If he were that easy to beat, how could we possibly tolerate him strutting into the library!”

”At least he participated in the Black Prison battle and gravely injured Sepulano.” Another person in a red robe nodded in agreement: ”If he couldn’t handle a few second-year students, wouldn’t that imply Alpha’s Augustus is just an empty reputation?”

Immediately, someone else chimed in: ”To be honest, I still don’t know how Zheng Qing gravely injured Sepulano. The student council has been vague, and the school has sealed the relevant records...”

”I heard the Absolution Hunting Team was on night training at the time, maybe the whole team fought Sepulano? You know, the Absolution team came out of Black Prison unscathed.”

”That shouldn’t be... If it was indeed the Absolution that injured Sepulano, then it shouldn’t have been just Zheng Qing attending the hearing and getting put on school probation.”

”What’s the point of discussing this now? Why not talk about something more useful.” The round-faced warlock who first spoke interrupted the increasingly skewed discussion and turned the topic back: ”I just can’t stand his smug look... They say D&K has a new two-headed Straw Man out, which can give him two nightmares in one night. Should we buy a few?”

”Yes, definitely yes!”

”Count me in, count me in!”

...

...

Zheng Qing was unaware of the minor commotion in front of the library, nor did he know that his modesty appeared as arrogance to some, or that tonight, his Nightmare Doll might grow a few more heads.

After shaking off some unexpected guests, the young scholarship student eagerly dove into the library, choosing an almost secluded corner to finish as much of his accumulated homework as possible before heading out in the evening.

Since entering his sophomore year, the assignments given by professors of each course had clearly increased. Of course, due to the presence of a Doctor, everything was still barely manageable.

But as a public place, no corner of the library could be completely secluded.

Like the corner Zheng Qing chose, he always felt there were people whispering behind the adjacent bookshelf. Peeking around, he saw no one. He even threw a few Talisman papers to dispel Invisibility Talismans, but found nothing, yet intermittent whispers still reached his ears, unclear and perplexing.

It felt like holding in a sneeze that wouldn’t come out, or an itch he couldn’t scratch.

This sense of contradiction made him somewhat anxious while doing his homework, repeatedly misspelling several technical terms, marring a perfectly good parchment with splotches of ink that looked exceptionally unsightly.

After two hours, he hadn’t even completed one assignment.

”Are you sure no one’s messing with you using a little ghost?” Xiao Xiao asked after finishing yet another assignment. He adjusted his glasses and glanced at the restless young scholarship student: ”Why can’t I hear anything?”

”Probably not.”

Zheng Qing drooped his face, replying muffledly: ”None of my amulets are reacting... If someone was really using magic, any kind, I’d be able to sense it.”

Just then, clear footsteps suddenly came from behind the bookshelf.

”Here we go again!” The young scholarship student clutched his head and silently wailed: ”It’s definitely not a ghost... What kind of ghost would make noise while walking?”

”A ghoul.” Xiao Xiao cracked a cold joke.

Not funny at all.

Zheng Qing took a deep breath, just about to complain to the librarian when suddenly a head popped up at the corner’s entrance, revealing a round-faced warlock.

”Doctor!” He greeted Xiao Xiao while his gaze involuntarily fell on the young scholarship student, waving amicably: ”Hello, Brother Qing!”

Zheng Qing vaguely remembered he was a first-year student but didn’t know his name. Hearing the greeting, he couldn’t ignore it, so he nodded in response.

The round-faced warlock briskly ran to Xiao Xiao’s side, speaking in a low voice and rapid pace: ”The two-headed sales are going well. We received over forty orders... If the price were a little cheaper, even a few copper coins off, more people would surely buy!”

Zheng Qing frowned, staring at the speaking warlock.

Watching his voice grow lower, so much so that he had to look up at Zheng Qing, forcing a dry smile, and asking somewhat lacking in confidence: ”Brother Qing, is something the matter?”

”Can you hear people talking behind the bookshelf?” Zheng Qing carefully observed the round-faced warlock’s every move, one hand on the grey cloth bag at his waist, and asked very slowly.

When the round-faced warlock had run over, he noticed that his footsteps were remarkably similar to those he had heard earlier. Coincidentally, when the round-faced warlock spoke, the rustling sounds behind the bookshelf resumed.

This made him cast doubt.

As for what the round-faced warlock had just told Xiao Xiao, he really hadn’t noticed.

”Behind the bookshelf?” Hearing the young scholar’s query unrelated to his ’business’, the round-faced warlock audibly sighed with relief, listened intently for a moment, and nodded: ”Indeed, people are speaking... It’s about supporting the Northern District Wizard march this weekend, likely those ’Law Book Liberation Association’ folks.”

Before he finished speaking, Xiao Xiao and Zheng Qing both widened their eyes.
