High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2126: Chapter 247: Black Cat’s First Meeting

The ’special black cat’ that Zheng Qing mentioned is the Shadow Cat, already recruited into the ’relevant department.’ Having stood out during the freshman competition in 08, its presence and the subtle connection with Zheng Qing isn’t hard to notice if certain people at the school pay attention.

Especially since the name ’Zheng Qing’ has become quite popular recently at school.

Therefore, he should be more cautious.

”Who do you plan to use the Polyjuice Potion on?” Xiao Xiao quickly grasped Zheng Qing’s intent and began to consider the feasibility of this approach.

Zheng Qing’s gaze lingered momentarily on him and Xin Fat Man, tentatively asking, ”Any volunteers?”

Unexpectedly, the first to raise a hand—or rather a paw—was Fatty Cat, Tuan Tuan. It sat upright by the desk, showing a keen interest in the Absolution training.

Zheng Qing still vividly remembered the trouble during a Philosophy of Magic class last year when Fat Cat replaced Xin Fat Man. Even though Jiang Yu wasn’t present tonight, he didn’t want to leave others, especially the Fringe Hunting Team, with a silly and bizarre impression.

So he slightly lifted his gaze, pretending not to see the paw.

Following the cat, Xin Fat Man hurriedly raised his hand.

He had been slightly startled by the young cost student’s suggestion and momentarily distracted, unexpectedly outdone by a cat, particularly one with a history of impersonating others.

The distraction was due to a myriad of thoughts bubbling up in the Fat Wizard’s mind the moment he heard Zheng Qing’s suggestion—ranging from probing information using Zheng Qing’s identity, sneaking interviews with the Fox Maid at Greenhill Mansion, to impersonating Zheng Qing at the Campus Newspaper to say things everyone loved hearing, providing Sin Bana Schmidt-Bayer the journalist with rich material.

It must be emphasized, the ’impersonation’ here is authorized by the person involved, completely legal.

Because too many possibilities flashed through his mind, the Fat Wizard was momentarily dazed, nearly missing out to a cat.

Zheng Qing withdrew his gaze with slight disappointment.

Actually, his best choice at heart was Xiao Xiao, but it seemed the Doctor wasn’t very interested in this proposition, so it appeared the only volunteer was the Fat Wizard—well, and the cat.

”Since only Tuan Tuan and Xin volunteered...” Zheng Qing cleared his throat, intending to announce his final decision, but Xiao Xiao raised a hand to interrupt his speech.

The young cost student’s voice came to an abrupt halt, thinking the Doctor had changed his mind.

Unfortunately, Xiao Xiao had no intention of taking on this thankless task: ”I didn’t plan to participate... I just wanted to remind you, there’s another person in the dormitory who raised a hand.”

Zheng Qing looked in the direction of his finger.

In the coffin belonging to Dylan, without him noticing when, an arm was listlessly held in mid-air.

”When did you wake up?” Xin Fat Man pretended he just saw the arm, glanced at the bright sunshine outside the window with a look of surprise: ”...what are you raising your hand for at midday without sleeping!”

”When you mentioned ’blood’ and ’meat’ and ’eating’ and ’drinking’.” Came the listless and yawning voice of Mister Wolfman from the coffin, sounding somewhat muffled.

”Don’t you have classes at night?” The Fat Wizard, unwilling to give up, tried dissuading his most competitive rival.

”It’s Saturday today, even vampires have weekends, right?” Dylan’s head finally emerged halfway from the coffin, looking particularly pale against the dark coffin board. He yawned again then added, ”As for impersonation, I’m more experienced, after all, I’ve lived for one thousand seven or eight hundred years...”

”Weren’t you saying thirteen hundred before?” The Fat Wizard interrupted someone’s bragging with a cold laugh.

”Oh? Was I?”

On Mister Wolfman’s face, there wasn’t the slightest hint of embarrassment—to some extent, his thick skin matched well with the age he boasted about: ”After all, considering my age, a slightly poor memory isn’t too hard to understand... By the way, by the honor of the Moonlight Nobles, I will certainly strive to maintain the grace of the Young Master of Green Hills!”

When saying the last sentence, Dylan’s face was swept away from weariness, his eyes shining brightly.

Zheng Qing immediately decided:

”Then it’s you!”

Fat Cat and the Fat Wizard sighed in unison.

...

As it turned out, having Dylan drink the Polyjuice Potion to substitute for himself in training was a very wise choice by Zheng Qing. This caution soon yielded unexpected returns.

At eight in the evening, the black cat left the dormitory and randomly chose a building from the academy, wearing the ruby ring on its paw wrist, and descended the stairs.

This was his first time attending a formal meeting of the Seven Sins, inevitably feeling a bit nervous.

According to the previous Sin Bearer’s advice, he walked down seven steps along the staircase, then backtracked three steps up, then descended five steps, and strode back up one step.

Below the stairs, white mist silently rolled out, engulfing the entire staircase in no time. The black cat passed through the white mist, soon, soon, seeing an anciently styled Bronze Secret Door.

”Good evening.”

The black cat cautiously greeted the green ghostly face on the Bronze Gate.

”Nice to meet you for the first time... Please guide me.” The green ghost face twisted into a terrifying smile, its voice hoarse and unpleasant: ”Clearly, you indeed are a suitable Sin Bearer.”

”What do you mean?” The black cat curiously pricked up its ears.

”Heh heh... Because just like your predecessors, you like arriving last to the meeting room.” The green ghost face curled its mouth, its eyeballs rolling around amusingly: ”...Are you going in just like that, as bare as you are?”

Indeed, this fellow is really annoying.

Silently, the black cat extracted its mask, claw covers, and robe from the Ruby Ring, stood up on two feet, first donned the robe, then the mask and claw covers, walking upright with a few strides.

Then it verified one thing, which is that cats are indeed not suited for upright walking.

The heavy robe hadn’t lightened even a bit for it being a cat, pressing the black cat almost into a ball, forcing it to walk on all fours like a real cat.

”If I were you, I’d use a cane.”

The ghost face on the Bronze Gate babbled on, as if having endless idle chatter: ”Cat Hermit, heh heh, the idea alone is amusing. It’s my first time letting a cat into my belly... Kindly, next time bring a few mice, perhaps? I heard those little things taste quite delightful... Also, don’t shed in the meeting room...”

The black cat’s gaze slightly shifted—as for using a cane? It seems it might be a good idea, could try it next time.

Then it propped its body, raised a paw, knocked on the bronze small door in front with the Ruby Ring on its paw wrist. The mouth on the door’s ghostly face stuck out a tongue, licking across the gemstone ring, the black cat barely resisted the urge to immediately pull out a towel from nowhere.

The small door opened silently.

Even before entering, the black cat could hear the chatter coming from inside.
