High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2147: Chapter 368: Giving Thanks

Monday, evening.

Ignoring the ”avoid unnecessary actions” and ”nothing is auspicious” notes in the Old Almanac, and overlooking the Transformation spell used the previous night, as dusk fell, the Black Cat once again darted out from the balcony of Dorm 403.

This time, its destination was Greenhill Mansion at Number 54, Beta Town West District.

The words of Old Yao before the curse course in the morning felt like a nail, lodged deep in the heart of the young cost student, leaving him restless and jittery all day, with the feeling as if a giant blue claw was about to drop from the sky and mince him into tiny pieces.

Coupled with Old Yao’s hints here and there, he couldn’t wait for the sun to set before transforming and heading straight to the destination.

The first half of the night was bustling; the pedestrian street was crowded and noisy. However, the joys and sorrows of humans and cats differ, as the Black Cat only found them irritating.

Unlike the busy street, Greenhill Mansion was exceptionally tranquil at this hour.

Grass Spirits silently traversed every corner of the garden, any insect daring to make a sound better prepare to be eaten; Flower Sprites lay lazily among various colored petals, occasionally exhaling faint but splendid beams of light into the air; most of the mansion maids had finished their day’s work, quietly enjoying their moment of leisure.

The mansion’s owner was draped in a wide, green robe, leaning by the window, holding a book, with a Little Fox snoozing on her shoulder. The Fox’s tail drooped downward, covering the Witch’s chest, swaying idly, quite content.

Suddenly, the tail stopped moving.

The Little Fox abruptly raised its head, its glittering eyes looking beyond the garden, with its fluffy ears twitching slightly. The Witch holding the scroll lifted her hand, scratched the Fox’s ears, and murmured, ”Calm down, maybe they’re just passing by...”

Before her voice faded, a drenched Black Cat squeezed through the fence outside the mansion, seemingly just out of the water, its mismatched black fur tangled messily, looking particularly disheveled.

”Why place Chaos Spell talisman paper by the creek!” the Black Cat grumbled angrily while shivering and shaking vigorously, scattering glistening droplets.

Arriving outside the mansion today, it intended to leap over the fence’s small creek as usual but happened to stamp on a chaos spell, instantly losing sense of direction and plunging into the creek, gulping several mouthfuls of cold water before scrambling ashore.

The Little Fox squealed, jumping off the Witch’s shoulder in excitement, squeaking and rushing towards the Black Cat.

By the window, the Witch set down her scroll book, glaring at the Little Fox, then replied somewhat cynically, ”And why not? A deserted courtyard, empty zither stage, the orphaned mother at home, why wouldn’t they lock their doors?”

The Black Cat felt choked by these words.

Luckily, the Little Fox had already arrived by its side, circling it frantically like a little dog. The Black Cat patiently let it play with its tail, then glanced again towards the window, hesitating on how to speak.

After a while, it abandoned the various tactful approaches in its mind, deciding to be direct. So it ran straight towards the mansion owner, leapt onto the windowsill, squatted in front of the Witch, and bravely stared into her glasses.

Just as it was about to speak, it realized its courage wasn’t as plentiful as imagined, hesitantly asking, ”What did you do last night?”

Su Shijun inclined her head, glanced at it, and naturally responded, ”Nothing much. Didn’t you get beaten last night? I figured it had something to do with that old Wandering Wizard, so I demolished his shabby pub... Actually, I’ve been pondering it for a while, thought of smashing it since school... Afterward, I casually greeted Milton, accidentally dismantling his house... Did you come about this matter?”

Indeed!

The Black Cat roared inwardly, embarrassed at the Witch’s casual mention of its beating, yet relieved by her frankness.

Then, it realized something more pressing, ”You even confronted the Wandering Wizard? Isn’t he a Black Wizard? You went alone? That’s too dangerous!”

The Witch’s lips curled slightly, picked up her scroll again, flipped a page, and said lazily, ”Just a washed-up old guy... Who isn’t a Big Wizard?”

Squeak, squeak!

The Little Fox clung to the Black Cat, loudly agreeing with a couple of chirps. Su Shijun glanced at it, beckoned, and the Head Maid of Greenhill Mansion silently appeared by the windowsill.

”Take her to bed,” instructed the mansion owner, ”She must get up early tomorrow morning to listen to the ceremony under the moon, don’t sleep too late... Watch her closely, don’t let her steal food.”

The Little Fox looked shocked at the Witch, then turned, gazing pitifully at the Black Cat.

Feeling a bit guilty, the Black Cat pulled its tail from under the Little Fox’s paws, coughed lightly, and nodded with slight movements, ”Early to bed and early to rise is good for health.”

Su Man bowed slightly, carrying the still struggling Little Fox, and quietly left.

The room returned to silence, with glowing fireflies passing outside, the garden twinkling with soft light, a beautiful sight. Su Shijun held her book, reading quietly, seemingly determined not to speak first.

Sitting uneasily on the windowsill, the Black Cat hesitated for a while, then cautiously reported the school’s opinion, ”Old Yao, I mean, Professor Yao’s view is that since everyone is okay, let’s let this matter pass. The school will sternly deal with those who violated rules and discipline...”

As it spoke, its courage unknowingly surged again, daring to criticize the Witch’s actions, ”Moreover, you are an Upper House Member of the Moon Council, the Miss of Qingqiu, such impulsive actions in the future, refrain from doing them, not only risking yourself but also damaging your image...”

The Witch’s eyebrows slowly raised.

The Black Cat’s keen eyes quickly offered appeasement, ”All in all, thank you, truly grateful... regarding everything that happened last night.”

The final thank you was sincere.

The Witch hummed softly, accepting the Black Cat’s gratitude, her scroll swaying slightly in hand, ”Since Poseidon’s identity was exposed, you too should be more cautious in the future. This time it was just some students messing around... if it happens outside, who knows what might occur.”

The Black Cat nodded honestly, recalling another incident from the morning, and couldn’t resist asking, ”Speaking of students messing around... last night, some school students suffered minor injuries... like bruised noses and swollen faces, are you aware of this?”

Although it was now a cat, it remembered clearly, earlier, the Witch only mentioned conflicts with the Wandering Wizard and Milton, without mentioning school students. Additionally, in its understanding, given Su Shijun’s pride, it wouldn’t bully a group of students.
