Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1450: Chapter 28: Lind’s Difficult Choice

Count Stelter’s tone carried a hint of caution: ”First, let Ellie take those few notes and ask Mr. Belfran.

Doesn’t our family have a complete alchemy basics book?

Take that with you as well.

If we’re not aiming to inherit from him but just want some basic knowledge, considering those few books, Mr. Belfran will probably agree.

After all, he occasionally teaches Ellie a thing or two offhandedly...though it might be because he never expected even those bits are unknown to anyone.

But at the very least, this proves he does appreciate Ellie, and indeed, his personality is very kind and forgiving.

Haha~ Haven’t you dealt with those guys from the Alchemist Association... that bunch of bastards won’t even tell us if a certain grass is for horses or humans!”

Joshua couldn’t hold back and turned around angrily: ”When you asked that question, you should have realized that the alchemist didn’t hit us only because he knew he couldn’t win!”

Count Stelter kicked Joshua’s chair: ”Mind your own business!”

Joshua turned his head back with a sneer: ”If you don’t take me with you for such matters in the future, I don’t care what you ask!

You better not take the same question to Mr. Belfran!

If you make a fool of yourself, fine, but don’t ruin Ellie’s hard work from the past days!”

He then glanced at Lind and turned to Helena very seriously, saying: ”I also think... he doesn’t seem bound by Mage Danboro’s accord... most likely, he was in hiding before that.”

”Wouldn’t that mean he’s over a hundred years old?” Lind asked, looking up, ”But he looks so young!

Though he always looks at Sister Ellie with kindly eyes... just like the butler looks at her... but I always feel he’s not that old!

Couldn’t he have come from another country?

Why haven’t you considered this question at all?”

”It’s rare for you to know something proper!” Count Stelter snorted before explaining leisurely, ”Not talking about whether any country would command a sage-level alchemist master to do such a thing... unless they have some irreplaceable hostage against him.

But is such a hostage really effective?

It’s hard to recall a sent-out sage... really kill the hostage?

Wouldn’t that mean not valuing their own life?

Moreover, there’s one thing you must remember, Lind.

Those long-lived mages! They tend to become less attached to the mortal world over time.

The so-called feelings might hold them until they are about 200 years old, but beyond that, the great sages are indeed very indifferent.

Mages over 300 years old basically don’t appear much in the ordinary world... there have been some messages from the temple that if these mages are willing, the Creator God would send them to the Heavenly Realm.

Although their power may continue to grow there, correspondingly, they can’t come back, nor even send messages.

Those high-level mages probably all know this... so, for their future paths, they all love hoarding wealth.”

He didn’t say much more, but the listeners immediately thought of Chairman Finch and the hundred or so children helping him gather resources.

And that Great Sage Ismael who has rarely made an official appearance in recent years.

The Ismael Family hasn’t been as ostentatious as the Finch Family in these recent years... Lucimar is naturally like this, but no one would take his actions as the will of the Ismael Family.

Besides, the great sage simply doesn’t like to come out, not that he’s gone, who’s daring enough to deal with his young son over some trivial matter?

Lucimar never does anything outrageous either.

Count Stelter glanced at Lind before continuing: ”Mr. Belfran’s family crest is carved on his carriage, not to mention Joshua personally witnessed the documents from the Rune Master Temple.

In the Rune Master Cathedral of Basia City, his family’s records are there... it’s just those without enough status can’t check them.

The Belfran Family has actually existed for a very long time, just like Windbell Grass!

It’s one of the oldest flowering plants in the world!

It’s just that no one previously thought of using such a common wildflower as a family crest!

Perhaps some tried and didn’t succeed?

That’s something no one knows.

Anyway, the Belfran Family never involves themselves in continental affairs, only occasionally does a family member travel for a while.

Moreover, they never stay in any place too long.

Once the journey is over, they return home.

The Bishop of the Rune Master said the Belfran Family has even had dealings with the Creator God!

”Then... would your notes be useful for such an ancient family?” Helena was only concerned about her child’s chances, ”Besides, he wouldn’t want to take on students with no foundation, right?”

”Alchemical notes are not reference books.” Count Stelter explained, ”Every alchemist’s notes have their own unique content, for other magicians, there’s always something fresh to learn.

So, even if those notes aren’t much good to Mr. Belfran, he will definitely want to see them.

It’s fine as long as we don’t ask for too much.”

Helena looked at him puzzledly... They even want the other party to teach Lind, so how can it be not much?

Count Stelter pointed to the box over there: ”That’s Yanos.

This time, no matter if we can reach an agreement with Delgado or not, he must break away from that bastard.

At most, if we really keep Delgado, then the time he breaks away will be a bit later, until the agreement time with Delgado ends.

Anyway, for him, after waiting for decades, he won’t mind these three years... Even if mithril is valuable again, Delgado will only stay for three years, which is the longest time for a temporary apprentice.

After all, he can earn a lot of resources from me, enough to promote him to a mid-level magician no matter what.

But, Yanos doesn’t have the guts to violate Mage Danboro Accord to teach the male members of military nobility magic knowledge... Heh~ What a nice name it is, but which mage dares to admit the existence of this thing?

You see, this time, as long as we help him break away from that old man in advance and multiply the promised resources several times... In bright terms, as long as he doesn’t have to withstand pressure, Yanos would probably be willing.

Anyway, once he leaves Delgado, he will definitely have to hide himself for a while.

Unless Delgado suddenly becomes incredibly generous and actually arranges a good place for Yanos... But how could he be so nice?

At most, he would send him off with a recommendation letter to some Alchemical Sub-Association to be in charge... You all know the virtue of the sub-association in Basia City.

Without the consent of the chairman and several high-level managers, he can only get a meager salary on the surface.

That income, which is difficult even for ordinary mages, how could an alchemist who needs to do experiments himself bear it?

He will definitely be willing to accept our offer.

Now, the most important thing is, to come up with a way to make Mr. Belfran willing to bear this name!

”

”Ellie said that he doesn’t even care about mithril?” Helena looked at their youngest son who was looking at them curiously and said with a frown, ”Even if he can teach Ellie because of those notes... bearing this name is offending those mage nobility who have been passed down for hundreds of years, why would he be willing?”

Count Stelter smiled mysteriously, almost inaudible he said: ”Hey~ I’ve fought wars for so many years, how could I not have some good stuff?

Originally, I planned to hide them, leaving them for the future... You see, in case we lose, it can leave some memories for our Lind, right?

But, if it can be used, of course it should be used first.”

Helena suddenly understood, gritted her teeth and yelled: ”That’s why the desert devil hates you so much that they come from thousands of miles to assassinate you!

Damn it, I’m telling you! It’s been so long, what kind of enmity is this big! On the battlefield everyone fights for their own lords, isn’t it settled after the battle?

You this...”

”Don’t say that! If it were you, would you be willing to give it up? Even if you don’t understand it, the value is there!”

”That’s absolutely necessary!” Helena said decisively, ”Assassination, whatever, if something really happens, it’s your life first.”

”Ah, Helena still loves me so much.” The count said with emotion, ”So, I must live strong and never give you the chance to be sad and remarry.”

Helena coldly sneered at him: ”Don’t worry, I will definitely not remarry.

Once is enough to suffer from the consequences of choosing the wrong man.

So, aren’t pretty boys attractive?”

A smile unexpectedly appeared on the stern face of Count Stelter: ”Indeed, my Helena will never leave Stelter.”

Count Stelter never expected that Delgado is even more stingy than he thought, and while chatting with his wife about a bright future... although the isolation array in the room is powerful, certain things even his own son can’t hear.

Lind looked at his quarreling parents and very obediently tugged at Joshua’s sleeve: ”Uncle Joshua, I want some other fruit.

Apples... while they’re tasty, you’ve already given me three.”

Joshua was stunned for a moment... he had been too focused on the conversation over by the count, and ended up making this mistake. He patted his forehead, ”Oh dear! I truly am...

If I do it again, just wake me up directly!

Lind is too good.”

He smiled and took two oranges from his pocket: ”No need to be so polite with me ～

If I hadn’t gone to the army following your father, I’d be no different than your butler uncle.

Besides, I’ve been back five years now! Lind needs to get used to having me around sooner!”

Lind took the oranges: ”I can peel them myself.

Like the butler uncle... that’s not good, he always doesn’t let me go out and play ～”

”Alright... then!” Joshua thought for a moment: ”My daughter is three now, can go out ～ I’ll take you next time for an outing! ”

Lind’s hand paused while peeling an orange halfway: ”Three... Ah!”
