Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1440: Chapter 18: Hill Who Can’t Grasp the Situation

Count Stelter sat in the chair, looking sternly at the butler and his subordinate, whom he regarded as a brother, as they exchanged vague pleasantries, unable to help but furrow his brow... as if he were the only unfeeling stern father!

But... what could he do?

Could a family head be as naive and indulging as they were?

In the gentlest tone he could muster, the count began, ”Ellie.

You don’t need to consider so many issues right now, just show your best side.

As for the Stelter Family, we are of no real help in this area.

Even if that Earth Traveler is willing to teach you something, you’ll need to impress him enough that he truly admires you.

Otherwise... yes, such a strong figure won’t care about those dirty politics, but he also won’t care about a young lady from an earl’s family.

Whether we can make this request depends on the opportunity he provides.

Today’s High-level Mages won’t act lightly, but that doesn’t mean they can’t... so there’s no need to fear them, but that doesn’t mean you can disrespect them.

The only thing we can strive for now is an opportunity, a chance for you to showcase yourself in front of him, and for the rest... it’s up to fate.”

”I know,” Ellie said softly, ”Of course, I understand that mages... the more you comprehend how terrifying people above can be.

So, father, I fully understand why, as someone who came back from the battlefield, you’re so adamant about me finding my own path.

How fortunate I am to have this opportunity to walk the Mage’s path... Is Lind really much worse than me?

Although I have a bit of luck, it doesn’t mean that golden rain will actually fall on my head.”

She glanced at her worried uncles and said earnestly, ”Rest assured, I will consider it thoroughly before making any decision.

And in the meantime, I will do my best to show my best self.”

Then she suddenly laughed: ”At least, this person’s appearance saves me from having to smile brightly and maintain a gentle demeanor when facing those who can’t even comprehend apprentice-level rune problems, isn’t it?”

Count Stelter stood up: ”Then it’s settled.

I have to have a talk with Helena, even if I don’t agree with her ideas, if Ellie ultimately chooses her path, I will have nothing to say.

Ellie, I think you understand... for a warrior like me, choosing to let you become the guardian of the Stelter Family isn’t just for the sake of the family.

Man or woman, love is undoubtedly important... but only couples who can support and sustain each other can last to the end... and to achieve that, it depends on whether both parties have a conscience.

Love is easy, but staying together is hard... Many loving couples, inseparable in their youth, become annoyed by each other’s presence even before their children grow up.

Although in the Danboro Kingdom, women’s status is relatively good, everyone must admit that when the time comes, men always have a bit more choice than women.

More men than women tend to forget the past.

Therefore, only those strong enough to face any consequences can remain on top forever.

My daughter, you’ve had a similar character to mine since childhood, so I don’t think you could bear the pain of being abandoned by a loved one.”

Ellie lifted her skirt, giving a gentle curtsy: ”Yes, my dear father, I indeed cannot.

Unless the family needs me to endure it all, otherwise, I would just choose... to let him die.”

Her crimson lips showed the softest smile: ”Even if my husband ends up as the King of Danboro, it wouldn’t matter.

Perhaps I’ll become Queen Eliterman!”

The men smiled helplessly.

If that prince certainly had no chance to compete for the throne, who would hand over their cherished little rose to him?

Without a prince with actual power, the Stelter Family could still stand against him, ensuring a promising future for Miss Ellie and her children... The earl might be a good man, but he wouldn’t think it so easy to find a noble man willing to remain loyal in marriage for his daughter.

Men are the most distrusting of their own kind.

Otherwise, the earl wouldn’t wish for his daughter to become the master of the Magic Tower... even he envisioned Ellie living as freely as those powerful female mages, and if she truly wanted a man... she could keep a few for fun!

In fact, women with wider exposure don’t believe otherwise, or else Helena, with her royal bloodline, wouldn’t specifically seek out someone like Alexis, with little chance of rising.

If she truly wished... even as the eldest daughter of the Stelter Family, who still has many followers, marrying an ambitious prince for the queen’s position would be a piece of cake.

This is precisely the most challenging aspect of the Stelter Family... maintaining a connection with the Royal Capital while avoiding involvement in the princes’ battle for the throne, requiring every step to be particularly cautious.

Were it not for Count Stelter angering that small-minded king five years ago to return home, Miss Ellie would likely have already become the most coveted maiden in Danboro... pursued by all the princes, overshadowed by countless schemes yet still under the spotlight.

Thankfully, no one in the Stelter Family prefers that kind of attention.

Ellie is a clever little girl, and by this time, she also understands why her parents are having disagreements... However, the little secretive thoughts of the Earl, such as wanting his daughter to keep a few pretty boys, she still hasn’t thought of that.

Ellie now only thinks her father wants to find a live-in son-in-law for her.

But there aren’t many men willing to do this, especially if they also need some mage talent, it’s even rarer.

The always smart and fearless Helena definitely doesn’t want her daughter to only pick the tallest among the short ones.

Anyway, compared to the slightly gloomy mood from before, Ellie is much happier now.

Thanks to the unexpected arrival of the Earth Traveler indeed!

If it weren’t for his arrival, Ellie feels she might have made the wrong choice due to some wild thoughts... If so, her future might have taken a crooked path!

By then, even if she becomes the Queen, so what?

The Queen’s position in the Danboro Kingdom is renewed the fastest!

All are oppressed to death!

Palace life, better to avoid if possible.

Ellie blinked and decided that even if Mr. Belfran didn’t fancy her talents, she would still show respect and regard him as her grandfather!

Having only heard about Mr. Belfran’s strength and extraordinary abilities, along with her father’s speculation about him being over a hundred years old, lively Ellie burst into laughter... The afternoon sun shone through the bright glass window onto her adorable and radiant smiling face, lighting up even her elders watching her, making them laugh happily together.

Completely unconcerned with matters in Stelter Castle and feeling like he almost belongs to the ranks of high-level mages in this world, Hill was watching with interest the puppets bring him stacks of auction manuals from the small house.

The entrance tickets to the trade fair are not abundant, all are exceptionally exquisite auction catalogues... Some are even specifically marked as unique items.

The implication is obvious.

It’s telling Hill that the Stelter Family only has common goods. The real good stuff can only be found in other families.

Hill couldn’t help but flash a smile at the corner of his mouth... He could be certain that when he was talking to Joshua, no outsider could hear their conversation.

In other words, the Stelter Family can’t even keep this small secret.

This made Hill have a deeper understanding of the family’s situation... If the home isn’t safe enough, what could they expect?

But... from Joshua’s performance, Count Stelter should be a clever person, right?

Probably some trouble has caused internal affairs to have some slip up, hasn’t it?

Hill shook his head, this... has nothing to do with him.

Then he couldn’t help but curl his lips... Compared to those idiots boasting with piles of low-grade alloy materials, he might as well go to the Stelter Family auction selling more natural materials.

Some of these people haven’t seen high-level alchemists, have they?

Which alchemist would use ordinary low-level alloys made by others!

It’s just a mixture of several metals, not even showing any acidic or alkaline reaction!

You should know how to do it just by touching it, right?

Adrian wouldn’t have such a problem!

Really... if this world’s alchemists can’t even figure out the performance of alloys, how can they make finished products?

Hill always thought only the undead tribe’s alchemists would be so... ignorant and fearless!

A true alchemist master must be familiar with all materials... At the very least, the properties of basic materials are well understood.

Hill, not very pleased, threw the manuals aside... Is it because this world started industrializing?

Industry is a good thing for the public.

But for certain professions that require enduring loneliness and adhering to tradition, it is indeed a huge test.

It’s not that people don’t do it, but the foundation for newcomers is no longer solid.

Hill’s hand stopped flipping through the book... He remembered once how President of the Wizard Association Draculus was dissatisfied with William’s Alchemy Workshop... That old man, always focused on the mage’s legacy, was he thinking of situations like this back then?

So, William is so concerned about Toril... A world where magic models don’t need to be memorized is most representative in this aspect.

As for Fran... Fran always thinks people need to rely on their own efforts, if they don’t want to learn, let them be, there’s no need to force learning.

So, he doesn’t consider much whether his alchemy school can be continued... If it’s gone, that means he’s outdated, or else why would no one learn?
