Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1417: Chapter 1207: The Days on Toril, Countdown Begins

Hill looked up at the dark mountain in the North, half shrouded by clouds.

The simultaneous earthquake and volcanic eruption had thoroughly cleansed the entire Neverwinter Mountain Range... except for the traces left by the lava, everything else was gray and black.

If it weren’t for Hill stabilizing the earth vein on the other side, even the southern part of Neverwinter Forest wouldn’t have remained.

The only benefit from this disaster might be that after the northern half of the forest collapsed, hot springs emerged from the ground.

Although most of them mixed with the muddy volcanic ash to form a swamp... Hill suddenly had a strange feeling, as if this area was destined to have a vast swamp, with two large heads cautiously peeping out, belonging to the Black Dragon Brothers.

Although they moved from the coast to the mountains, they settled on the main northern Ferun route.

”Can we play in Neverwinter Forest in the future, Lord?” Oberon suddenly squeaked from atop the White Dragon.

”As long as Oberon has no objections.” Hill thought for a moment and replied gently, ”But, the vines must be worn.

You all know you tend to be impulsive, right?

It’s difficult to make a friend, but if you end up turning them into an enemy by acting rashly, what should you do?”

The White Dragon tilted its head in thought, then nodded immediately: ”I know! Little fairies can also make a mess; if they go too far with pranks, it may... make us want to bite them to death.

But then... Oberon would be upset.”

”Exactly!” Hill praised, patting its head, ”So, try to be more tolerant toward friends!”

”What about those two Black Dragons next door?” The White Dragon joyfully rubbed against Hill’s hand, ”If they want to eat White Dragon meat?

Even together... we still can’t beat them!

Even if we call for help, the dead can’t come back to life.”

The younger dragons on White Dragon Mountain, especially the hatchlings, live a carefree life due to ample food and safety, but for this young White Dragon that once struggled on the Great Glacier, the crisis of being skinned alive at any moment never leaves.

The Black Dragon Brothers will not do such a thing.” Hill smiled reassuringly, ”They might even protect you.”

”What?” The White Dragon shouted, ”Black Dragons? Impossible! Those creatures eat dragon meat!”

”Because they too have signed a contract with the Goddess of Magic!” Hill laughed, ”In some ways, they have to listen to Elvia!

No matter what, they wouldn’t stand by and watch their associates or kids from their superior’s house get harmed under their noses.

Rest assured!

Elvia will always protect you in Josse Garden.

But, don’t cause trouble!

Naughty kids will be punished.”

Hill patiently reassured it.

Even a fully matured White Dragon can sometimes be... dumber than a Goblin, so a young White Dragon is no different from a child.

Hill has some patience for children.

After all, compared to the chaos his own little Bear can cause, the trouble these White Dragons stir up is relatively minor—spraying a little mist, tossing a few ice balls, or stealing meat, it’s not a big deal.

Even if they’re energetic and restless all day as long as the whip is wielded, they can behave for a while.

Moreover, perhaps due to their animal-like young stage, White Dragons can develop some habitual behavior, even if they are innately selfish and indifferent, they’re children who can be taught.

In Toril, only those who are a bit selfish can survive long.

Hill’s thoughts of his little Bear made him unusually tolerant toward the antics of these young White Dragons: Oriana can raise a ruckus that upends the heavens, and if the three little Bears agree, they can shake the entire Mithril Range.

For mischievous little Bears, their immense strength is a disaster.

Oriana’s parents had to constantly be on the run back then; after all, the Clan Leader would only let the real parents handle the mess, even if they just returned from the cosmic storm, they had no respite.

Who raises the child cleans up the mess—this has always been the Earth Bear tradition. Other Bears might help gather some food, but discipline... hehe, they’re all babies themselves, why suffer that pain?

Settling next to the Black Dragon Brothers, who sought a home from the Goddess of Magic, they discreetly retracted their Peeping Eye, uninterested in listening to how the Lord of Agleya instructs the young White Dragons.

In any case, having little fairies or flower spirits as neighbors wasn’t a bad thing for them... Fairies and Little Flower Fairies easily attract certain mages who covet magical botanical gardens; there are bound to be many adventurers trying to enter this vast forest and take a couple away.

Moreover, these sinister characters must be coming from the swamp... Who would dare go south?

And the place to the east, originally belonging to the Haber family, has now turned into a cold water lake thousands of meters deep.

No one knows where this water came from; perhaps it directly pierced to an underground river in the Underdark?

Anyway, no one can walk over there.

Those who want to sneak into the Neverwinter Forest probably have to stealthily walk through their brothers’ swamp.

Wezlum looked at his brother soaking in the hot spring water nearby: ”Urzur, with these little neighbors, although we won’t make a fortune, we’ll definitely never go hungry!”

Urzur flipped over and let the sunlight shine on his belly: ”Make a fortune? What kind of fortune?

Just accompanying the Undead Tribe to the northern ice sea can earn 5000 gold coins, what other fortune is worth our effort?”

”Being dragons! We can never be picky! Can we really let any passing bandits go?” Wezlum solemnly opened.

”Oh~ definitely not!” Urzur said happily, ”Even without the 5000 gold coin days, 5 silver coins can make a dragon happy!

Anyway, we’re very safe now, no one will come to eliminate the Evil Dragons.”

”What nonsense?” Wezlum warned his brother seriously, ”We! are black dragons who follow the majestic Goddess of Magic, Mystra!

We’ve never been Evil Dragons, understand? Just no such thing~”

”Brother~” Urzur secretly opened one tightly closed eye to stare at his brother’s dragon face, ”Wouldn’t a Chromatic Dragon get struck by lightning for saying that?”

”Tsk!” Wezlum impatiently used his claw to push away the brother who liked to speak truth, ”If you can’t speak, shut up!”

Urzur spread his dry wings, drifting leisurely over the warm swamp with the force of his brother’s claw, his voice full of happiness: ”Ah... I used to think we truly liked the cold seawater!

Turns out it’s more comfortable when it’s warm~”

Wezlum slightly grinned, then peeked at the White Robe-wearing Archmage on the branches of the Neverwinter Forest before lazily lying into the water.

When the sorrow of being unable to exact revenge condenses in the heart, only cold icy water can keep them rational, preventing them from fighting the sorcerers of Anmur recklessly.

But now, they no longer bear the grudges of the past, or even need to strive hard for the future, so of course, they should choose the most comfortable way of life.

He slowly closed his eyes under the sunlight... He used to think the Blue Dragon who was madly fond of music must’ve been hit with a Feeblemind Spell, but now, he understands!

Living without worries, a dragon can certainly pursue other joys in life!

Wezlum thought for a while, then suddenly spoke: ”Ah~ The best entertainment I can think of seems to be exploitation in the criminal underworld.”

”Hmm?” Urzur replied slowly, ”What are you thinking about again, brother.

Doesn’t this job allow us to earn and entertain at the same time?”

Unaware of Hill, acting as a voluntary patroller from Agleya to Luskan along this main road route, who after helping Oberon reorganize the forest clearing, flew back to the Floating Castle.

In his study, a stiff vine was hanging lifelessly in mid-air.

Hill couldn’t help but sigh and touched the red leaves of the Murderous Vine.

Knowing that Hill was about to leave, the Murderous Vine decided to split again... She has absorbed Marla more than once, with so much Nature Divine Power of Toril condensed within, she once again stands on the brink of leveling up.

As a part of nature, consuming creatures is her instinct; regardless of how many schemes AO has, he wouldn’t count her as part of it.

Yet the Murderous Vine doesn’t quite like the characteristic of Marla’s Divine Power, full of destructive desire.

Anyway, she initially planned to leave a powerful avatar on Toril to help Lynn manage the White Dragons, so she decided to level up before leaving... After the ascension, those messy powers absorbed in the previous stage will be directly purified.

Hill isn’t sure what color she would become after this transformation.

Relying on devouring to grow, the Murderous Vine indeed can level up easily, but because of her ability to consume anything, she instead finds it hard to grow, especially past the red Demi-god Rank.

The uncontrollable desire to devour makes this plant create terrifying disasters, yet the plant also has very obvious weaknesses.

The one around Hill is probably the first Murderous Vine humans have seen ascend to Divine Rank?

Hill softly said, ”In half a year, we’ll be leaving, you must work hard~”
