Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1426: Chapter 4: Thank You and Sorry

“The Djinn’s promise?” List laughed, “That’s a bit risky.

Waiting for someone destined to set her free sounds like a joke… Putting it in a place where no living person would pass by, wouldn’t that just keep her locked up forever!

Haha~

If we’re too late to set her free, would we have to fight her?”

Hill turned to look at the unresponsive wind elemental lord in the cage and frowned, “This one might be an Elemental God.

Elements are slow in doing things, but it’s not because they react slowly, it’s because they are easily distracted… To them, most things are unimportant, except their own mood.

When they’re having fun, they move quickly, and any kind of fun will do, even a simple ball game can keep them entertained for years.

So, they don’t really like loneliness.

Many elemental lords ultimately choose to become Divine Power, or even attach themselves to some world, simply because there’s something to do, entertainment to watch.

But such Elemental Gods are the ones who hate loneliness the most, very prone to breakdowns… Therefore, more than other deities, when they get bored, they fall into a very deep sleep.”

“She… tied that wind spiral to the cage and went to sleep, waiting for someone to come?” Purwell exclaimed, “Immortals… they dare to think and act!

This one would surely have common ground with the Undead Tribe.”

“Hmm…” Hill wanted to deny it but thought of those elemental creatures in his territory that became familiar with the Undead Tribe and soon played together, so he gave up.

“Sir, you don’t seem eager to wake her?” List uncovered the truth and asked seriously, “Do you feel it’s unsafe somewhere?

If there’s trouble, we can send a spherical puppet to open the cage… It should be easy to open, right?”

Hill produced a dagger, “This will do, the cage uses a thousand-year-old technique, and weapons made of Xilaite Aosteel will cut through anything.”

Then he sighed softly, “I feel like the vacation is too short!”

“But all these years in Toril, you haven’t really done anything yourself! You’ve only been watching the excitement, haven’t you?” List said pointedly, “Those dragons wore you out?”

“My heart’s tired!” Hill argued unreasonably, “Tasks keep coming one after another, rising waves upon waves, luckily enough fun things to soothe my battered heart.”

List shook his head helplessly.

Hill decided to take action himself.

At least elemental creatures have a distinct feature… those from the Evil Faction are especially ugly, and their colors are darker.

The wind elemental princess before him with a blend of soft white and pale green… Describing her as a princess naturally because her upper body is feminine, with a very exquisite princess crown on her head… The cloud veil on her has no dark tones at all… Even the craftiest elemental creatures won’t hide their faction.

Elemental creatures never hide their natural attributes, it’s their pride.

Hill slowly flew to the cage, politely knocking on the bars with the tail, and then cut open the cage panel by panel in front of him… To show respect to the lady, Hill chose to cut open the entire side of the cage.

Hill never understood why doors had to be opened wide for a lady, even if the lady only needed half the width.

But he adhered to this social etiquette out of habit, as it required no effort.

So, when the Wind God, with a beautiful face, opened her eyes, she had a full view in front of her.

She turned her head in confusion, only to discover the handsome young man a full kilometer away to the right, who had released her.

Is he… a young man?

The Wind God hesitated, as she was never good at distinguishing human appearances… It was a miracle she could sense that mage over there was handsome: She suspected it was due to the strong, distinctive wind flavor on him~

“Hello, I’m Wendy,” she slowly spoke, “Thank you for setting me free.”

Then she realized she had spoken in the Elemental language… After so long asleep, she almost forgot; humans who could speak this ancient runic language were likely extinct.

Only lazy elemental creatures, disinclined to say many words, still liked using this language, where one symbol had multiple meanings.

However, to Wendy’s surprise, the mage responded directly in Rune language: “Hello, beautiful Wind God Wendy, I am Hill.”

Wendy smiled joyfully.

This mage, could he have lived in the Elemental Realm in the past?

How wonderful, her prayer before sleep had come true!

Wendy spoke cheerfully, “That’s great~ When boredom forced me to sleep, I swore that if someone freed me and I found them pleasing, I would give them the truest blessing of the wind!

If you are willing, I can accompany you to the End of the World~

Anyway, I’ve already begun fulfilling my promise to Eosca… accompanying him until he dies!

Really~

Although Eosca later turned into a boring self-important guy, he did take me to many places!

What a pity.”

“True Gods, they don’t die completely, do they?” Hill couldn’t help but ask… He certainly wanted to know where this Wendy came from, but he hadn’t expected her to talk so quickly without needing him to prompt.

“That’s different!” Wendy widened her big eyes… Although her pupils and whites were the same pale green as her face, they seemed a bit darker, so Hill still felt her glaring eyes.

“Live long enough and you’ll find that if a god resurrects with a large number of followers, they’ll end up more like what their followers expect them to be!

If there are several previous incarnations, tsk, the one who wakes up definitely won’t be the one you originally admired.” Wendy flew a loop inside the cage excitedly. “Otherwise, why would I rush into Mark City to save Eosca?

That guy may be a bit silly, but he was really nice to me!

It’s a pity that after conquering several universes, perhaps due to having too many followers, he stopped listening to advice.

Being willful isn’t a big deal, it’s just that being willful on someone else’s… no, I should say, on a place where people don’t quite understand things yet… just seems really dumb.

Sigh… anyway, he’s dead now, and I’ve done my best… good deeds really do get rewarded!

The hero who saved the beauty is quite a handsome guy!”

Hill tugged at the corner of his mouth helplessly and asked seriously, “So, how did Wendy end up in the labyrinth?

This cage… it can’t hold you, can it?”

“After Eosca died, I fled back to the Elemental Realm.

The Blade Queen is strong, but she can’t stop the winds of Mark City from appearing.

If I want to run, I can easily escape.” Wendy hesitated for a few seconds… her instincts told her not to lie in front of this mage, “But I’m Eosca’s lesser god, the only Wind God worshipped across all Eosca’s universes.

When his followers seek news and help from me, I can’t refuse.

As a deity with his own universe, Eosca will surely resurrect.

But the premise for a god’s resurrection is receiving prayers from followers… the floating body in the Stellar Realm is the prerequisite.

However, Eosca’s has never appeared again.

The Blade Queen dealt too harshly.

As for me…”

Wendy said hesitantly, “I, used to follow Eosca and gained too many benefits. Although I fulfilled my vow, the cries of billions of followers made it impossible for me to just return to the Elemental Realm.

Especially after the universe’s crystal wall inexplicably broke.

Eosca was too solitary; besides me, who could never compete with him for faith, his universe had no other human gods.

He killed them all.

So, the crystal wall… no one can repair it.

What can I do?”

She said pitifully, “I’m just a weak Wind God who wanted to watch from the sidelines and ended up selling myself!

I just thought… why not fight the Blade Queen again?

Either she kills me and throws me into the place sealing Eosca, which is just like sleeping for a few more million years.

Or… what if I find it myself!”

Hill blinked… so, how did the Lady of Pain lock you in this cage and throw you into the labyrinth?

Wendy lowered her head gently, and the long tail formed by the whirlwind whipped the cage: “She found me annoying, and knowing I love to gamble, just…”

Then she suddenly lifted her head: “How was I supposed to know… her labyrinth looped within a loop, with boxes inside it?

She said as long as I swore not to leave the cage on my own, she would certainly put both me and Eosca in the same labyrinth!

I… saw her throw hundreds of people into this labyrinth.

So… thought that even if Eosca couldn’t be found, someone else could, right?”

The more Wendy spoke, the angrier she became, suddenly transforming into a tornado: “How could I have known her labyrinth had no boundaries! Bigger than a universe!”

Though a bit pitiful, for some reason, Hill did not feel sympathy for her… he tilted his head, could it be he thought she reaped what she sowed?

However, he wouldn’t agree to travel with this Wind God… even though Wendy insisted she didn’t want to see a God of Portals different from the past, she never mentioned wanting to help resurrect Eosca.

The relationship meter between Hill and the Lady of Pain presently read as indifferent, and he wasn’t ready to turn it into hatred.

“The Lady of Pain is currently fighting the Elf Deity System.” He smiled and began, “She used the blood and souls of Coron’s descendants to seal Eosca’s labyrinth.

If you can sense the aura of the Elf Princess, you might be able to find the labyrinth holding him.

Now might be the best and only chance… the Elf Deity System is trying to awaken those two princesses, there might be some stir.”

Wendy, who had been chattering away, suddenly fell silent.

After a while, she let out a heavy sigh: “Ah!

I understand.

Thank you, and, I’m sorry.”

Then she turned into a gust of wind and swiftly left.
