Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1436: Chapter 14: Miss Stelter, Always Favored by Luck

The reason Count Stelter is worried is mainly because he is indeed a decent man... only having legitimate children.

His eldest son, Ditte, is very much like him, and at a young age, already became an official battle professional... as long as the aptitude is there and there’s hard work, nobles always have various assistance methods to promote their children, it’s just a matter of willingness.

The second son, Lind... he feels most sorry for this youngest son. Despite having mage aptitude, he can only let him take the path of a magical swordsman.

But Count Stelter couldn’t do much, even his daughter wanted to become an official mage and the Stelter Family exhausted all its connections... and even then it wasn’t a proper mage institution, just paid heavily to invite a Level 6 mage to teach for three years.

If not for Alitorman being smart and resourceful enough to dig out plenty of knowledge in three years, how could he have become an official mage at just 16?

But if it were his son, even if the Stelter Family doubled their price, no mage would be willing to come... unless he sent Lind to another country.

But, everyone knows what that would mean.

What Count Stelter wants is for the family to live and die with the Danboro Kingdom, not to commit treason by themselves and be exiled to the barren desert!

Count Stelter’s ears perked up... it was the sound of Joshua running, but it wasn’t in panic; in the chaos, there was some joy.

He put down the pen in his hand, exhaled a long breath, raised both hands to pat his cheeks... before Joshua knocked twice and pushed the door open, he regained his usual impassive and composed demeanor.

Joshua rushed directly to the front of the desk: ”It’s an Alchemist! An Earth Traveler! And does not care about politics!

If he looks favorably on us, he’s willing to deal directly with our Stelter Family, I hinted at our somewhat strained relationship with other mage families, but he doesn’t care at all!”

Count Stelter couldn’t maintain his calm outward appearance any longer, he suddenly stood up: ”Really?

He... isn’t afraid?”

”An Earth Magician above Level 10, afraid of what!

Having face is only if he grants it!” Joshua pulled a chair over and sat down, placing his left foot on his right leg proudly shaking, ”Hehe~

That one clearly seems like the type who has lived in seclusion for years, not dealing with the outside world, but also not unfamiliar with the world; he just hasn’t seen the way ordinary people live.

His gaze doesn’t concern those luxurious skyscrapers; he’s been observing the residential houses.

I led him on a slight detour, directly passing through those few strange object shops, he didn’t even lift an eyelid!”

”No wonder, clearly there’s a road on the east side that can bypass to there, yet you had to lead him through the main street... I thought it was someone from somewhere coming!”

”When I saw that carriage, you think I wasn’t scared?” Joshua slapped his thigh, ”Don’t look at how recently our Miss Stelter is hosting auctions with great fanfare, with many young mages and nobles gathered around.

But if someone from the Alchemist Association came over and said a word... no one would stay.

Anyway, seeing Mr. Belfran’s appearance, I knew it surely wasn’t!

Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had the courage to speak... tsk, anyway, I don’t think he’s from the Royal Capital.”

”What do you mean?” Count Stelter tapped the bell on the table, turned his head curiously to ask.

”Too damned good-looking!” Joshua pulled out a mysterious smile, ”Remember when we went to the Capital last time, the famous Danboro’s First Beauty Miss Luciella?

Tsk~

If this one’s face were a bit softer, it’d definitely surpass the yet-unformed Danboro Pearl in beauty!”

”Luciella was only 12 years old then.” Count Stelter said earnestly, ”It’s been three years, after becoming a young lady, she’s sure to be even more beautiful!”

He couldn’t help but lean over: ”Really... that outstanding? Then... Alitorman wouldn’t fall for him, would he?”

”What are you thinking! My dear Count!” Joshua replied unpleasantly.

”Joshua!” The study door silently opened, standing there in a neat uniform with a tray holding a teapot and cups, was the butler Sander, displaying a look of disapproval at the doorway, ”Maintain your manners before the Count!”

”Ah! Sander!” Count Stelter quickly spoke, hoping to divert his nagging but capable butler’s attention, ”I have something for you to do!”

”Seems like, it’s a good thing.

Please command, my dear Count.”

Sander turned around, deftly placed the tray on the table, poured the tea for the Count and Joshua.

”A politically unbacked Earth Traveler has arrived in Basia City, and he’s an Alchemist!” Count Stelter said joyfully, ”Moreover, he has a rather mild attitude towards us Stelteners!”

Sander frowned slightly, turning to seize Joshua: ”Captain Joshua, could you elaborate a bit? Preferably, starting from the beginning.”

After carefully listening to Joshua’s detailed account, Sander’s brows finally relaxed: ”Ah... truly, our young lady indeed has very good luck!”

He swiftly turned again, walked a few steps to the closet by the study’s door, carefully took out several invitation letters and a stack of entry tickets: ”I’ll go change clothes and deliver these messages right away.

No, some small gifts must be included, wait... there must be our Basia’s specialties, ah! Here... Right, it’s best to use a pearl letter box.”

Watching Sander storm through the study like a whirlwind, Joshua couldn’t help but click his tongue, ”Sander really has a day where he’s out of sorts!”

”There’s no choice.” Count Stelter couldn’t help but sigh, ”You know, since Daria gave birth to Lind, her health has been poor, she’s been bedridden for years, it’s good enough if she can manage Lind well.

I was always worried about going to the battlefield back then, so I had to cultivate Ditte first.

Therefore, Alitorman was practically raised by Sander and his wife alone. Despite Sander’s stern face every day, when Ellie was little, he would dress up as a horse for Ellie to ride!”

”Hehe~” Joshua rubbed his hands, ”When he comes to his senses, I guess he won’t have the face to keep telling me to stick to the rules every day, right?”

Count Stelter shook his head, ”Sander just says a few words of reprimand.”

”Tsk~” Joshua patted his sleeve and suddenly commented, ”But speaking of it, our Miss Alitorman, she truly is lucky!

Though there are always bumps along the way, when the time comes, there’s always a good path... we used to just want to find a Level 2 Mage, and due to various coincidences, we ended up with a Level 6 Mage!

This time, we just wanted to find a Mage with some alchemy foundation to teach some basics, and bam~ we got such a big one!

I say, Count... won’t Miss Stelter be some kind of God’s Chosen Child?”

”Your imagination is better than mine!” Count Stelter said with an expressionless face, ”God’s Chosen Children appear every few decades but are either devoted followers of the major Churches or... Royal Family Members.

The Royal Family, with so many Princes and Princesses! Who knows which cloud will rain?

I, as a small Count, don’t have the face to say such words.”

”God’s Chosen Child shouldn’t appear in our Danboro Royal Family.” Joshua immediately stated, ”The thought makes one shudder! If a Royal Family member emerges, it’s either turmoil or rebellion!

Even if the Royal Family fights internally, life’s not going to be smooth for us small nobles!”

”I think... the places they appear will see trouble sooner or later.” Count Stelter leaned against the back of the chair, picked up a pipe and smoked slowly, his face encircled by smoke with an inscrutable expression, ”Our His Majesty the King is only ten years older than me, though The Queen has had six wives.

Each one with sons!

So... both in the Royal Capital and nearby towns, his Majesty’s grace is evident everywhere.

Some years back when we returned, it was rumored that the number of the King’s illegitimate children could form a guard platoon!

The mother of Miss Luciella was said to be... the most beautiful bartender in the Royal Capital?

Her reputation spread all over the Royal Capital, then suddenly went silent... when she reappeared, she came with that First Beauty, with a Lord title on her.

Our Majesty... among so many lovers from the ordinary folk, only this one wasn’t married off to some gentleman willing to take her, instead, she had a title herself.

The King must value the mother and daughter very much.

So, don’t mention those rumors about Miss Luciella outside.

Ha~ The old tiger’s tail can’t be touched at all.

Recently, even several Princes have been inexplicably scolded.”

Joshua put away his smile and nodded solemnly, ”I understand, the current Royal Capital can only be revered from afar.”

Hill, ignorant of all this, was using the Mage’s Eye to observe nearby shops and the commercial street nearly 10 kilometers from him.

He intended to see if this world’s food and drink had anything special.

After all, he was accustomed to and liked eating and drinking, and since he didn’t plan to reveal his outsider identity, he had to do as the locals do.

At least the appearance should be similar... whether it tastes particularly good is another matter.

Does anyone have the guts to ask him for a recipe?

Fortunately, perhaps because magic power in this world is not high, most fruits and vegetables are similar to those in his original world, just look prettier and taste better.

As for the food preparation style, it somewhat resembles Italian cuisine, fairly normal.

Truly a fortunate world... the food isn’t in Victorian style.

Besides cotton, linen, and fur, there are silk fabrics too.

But those smooth silk threads evidently don’t come from silkworms, likely a product unique to this world, they come in a lot of colors, all natural, but are quite coarse.

Hill genuinely thought those silk threads were like spider webs, and couldn’t help but shiver, deciding firmly not to buy any even if they were beautiful.
