Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1428: Chapter 6: Unbreakable Trust

Although Hill wanted to observe outside a bit longer, both List and Purwell were not at ease, constantly peeking out.

List losing some energy was no big deal, but if Purwell took a hit, that would be dangerous... Although they didn’t dare to say it, Hill was still somewhat worried.

Forget it, anyway, he had no intention of striking it rich... A terrifying maze that has existed for tens of thousands of years and confining mortals the least surely holds countless legacies to be found.

After all, to be qualified to be thrown in here by that Lady of Pain, one must be a powerful being capable of universe travel... And if they used transportation, they would be even wealthier.

Sometimes Hill found it strange; when he played the game, he was indeed a master at digging, one could say three meters high.

However, in real life after living in the fantasy world, he surprisingly had zero interest in scavenging everywhere, even though he knew all he needed to do was bend down.

Perhaps, he had a little bit of that seemingly indifferent yet extremely proud demeanor from the Goddess of the Earth?

That lady’s eyes seldom looked elsewhere, only a true World Tree would make her bow.

It’s a pity that the prouder one is, the more likely they are to encounter setbacks. Thankfully, this goddess did not collapse, although her personality changed significantly, she remained who she was.

After witnessing Toril’s Path of Destiny, Hill felt a sense of realization... His presence might not be just a coincidence.

Or not, Hill’s appearance was a coincidence, but the shard would inevitably be born into the soul of a human newborn.

If not Hill, it could have been some other suitable foreign soul melding with the soul shard from the Goddess of the Earth.

The fantasy world does enjoy playing with backup games, both visible and hidden.

Hill wasn’t dissatisfied upon discovering this, he clearly understood that surviving freely up to this point was largely thanks to this shard.

Otherwise, even with the best mage talents, he couldn’t get this far so quickly.

Fran and that Wizard Association President Draculus’ paths of growth are what his life should be... Moreover, Hill didn’t consider himself comparable to the gifts of those two.

This isn’t him underestimating himself, but a reality.

Hill never looked down on himself, nor would he overestimate his worth.

In the study of the Magic Tower, he smiled contemplating his life... then was driven out by his Tower Spirit.

Due to concerns about tremors, List stored most books and movable furniture items in the Half-plane.

He preferred being troubled later over seeing a chaotic environment.

While Hill was lost in thought resting his chin, List cleaned the entire Magic Tower leaving only the chair Hill was sitting on... without even leaving Hill a desk.

When Hill snapped back to reality, he could only blink at the empty study, but... List’s attitude was reminiscent of his mother who, during a big cleanup, would almost throw Hill and his father out.

Hill opened his mouth, and opted to retreat, floating with his chair onto the balcony... previously holding a tablet watching anime on the balcony, now he could only look at blueprints.

However, the fantasy world’s blueprints were animated, which wasn’t bad, at least the Transformers show was still quite interesting.

It’s a pity he’s still far behind Fran in this regard.

Though he studied alchemy for a good while and got plenty of knowledge from Toril, well, talents can sometimes be an unsolvable problem.

His grandfather’s ability to absorb various knowledge was incredibly fast and good, and he could enhance it comprehensively with his understanding.

While Hill could only learn to make first, then slowly modify.

Hence, although transforming spaceships modeled after ’Gods’ Oared Ships’ conceived by the Undead Tribe after seeing Toril’s subartifacts, Harua’s white sailed ships, Fran indeed devised some realizable blueprints... naturally without humanoid states.

Fran felt transportation is just transportation, living with some defensive capabilities is nice enough, why bother with humanoid combat modes, that’s absurd... rather mount some treads, rams, at least they help in escape.

Even though Hill understood the Undead Tribe’s mindset... he dared not say much more.

He figured out one thing, the dream of mechas for men didn’t catch on in the Undead Tribe’s world... the tasks achievable by mechas were mainly assigned to robots, even in emergencies, they were quickly handled by higher-level intellects.

And in crueler wars, individual warriors are out of place.

Large scale wars require universe battleships, and small ones swift combat crafts.

The requirements on soldiers were already extremely high, let alone the meticulously precise commanding officers.

No wonder fellows like ’Snow Cloud Peak’ had to retire from the combat sequence... despite some flaws, their intellect was genuinely outstanding.

If it were Hill’s former world, there’s no way such a smart willing-to-enlist person would be allowed to retire; a suitable place would always be found to put their skills to use.

Hill quietly calculated his materials on hand while looking at the blueprints Fran assigned him.

Although most of the materials are metals and ores he could gather by stepping on the ground, there are still some materials he couldn’t obtain himself... such as those special materials with even stronger resilience.

Then Hill couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow: Isn’t that just coincidental?

The specialty of Josse Garden is various types of ropes, with the metal Josse Garden heart-guard cable being just the most famous one.

No one knows whether it’s due to the owner there needing to weave the Weave.

There is a type of thread with the strongest resilience that carries a hint of life force, comparable to the strength of Crystal Flower Thread, and is extremely fine, fine to the point that it is invisible to the naked eye.

Moreover, the ropes woven from these threads can even self-repair after breaking for a period of time.

In the list of supplies Edna gave him, Hill valued these threads the most... Crystal Flower Thread is somewhat special to him, and he really doesn’t want to use it as an experimental material.

Indeed, he used Crystal Flower Thread to make some crystal windows, but he would dismantle these windows when he left, saving them for future use.

If Josse Garden didn’t have such a limited stock of these threads, Hill really intended to take them all... Edna even mentioned that even the Goddess of Magic’s warehouse only had one-tenth of its stock left!

Though it was a bit awkward with List watching him... Hill still insisted on going through all the drawings, even marking places that could be optimized with a pen... Fran always pursued cost-effectiveness, which Hill doesn’t need.

He only needs to consider performance, which makes him even bolder in drawing compared to Fran.

Moreover, Purwell only needs to design a wagon shape that walks on land, which saves a lot of trouble!

Wendy deserves the trust the God of Portals had in her as his trusted lesser god from ten thousand years ago.

After receiving guidance from Hill, she surprisingly found the box universe holding Eosca in just ten days.

The loud sound of the door being slammed even reached Hill.

”Ah! Sounds indeed travel far in the starry sky!” Hill listened for a while before judging the distance, unable to resist expressing his thoughts.

”The Lady of Pain should have heard it, right?” List, who was always watching in that direction, seemed a bit nervous.

”Coron actually has a very stubborn personality.” Hill knew what List was worried about, ”He seems indifferent to everything, but once he acts, he won’t stop until he reaches his goal.

He came to Mark City personally, so there must be a conclusion; he won’t leave before the two princesses are found.

Moreover, have you forgotten about a certain queen?”

”Sorrowful Queen?” List turned in surprise to look at Hill, ”You think she’s in Mark City?

How is that possible?

How could the Lady of Pain not find her!”

”If she had discovered the Sorrowful Queen, given the Lady of Pain’s temper, she would have used it to provoke Coron from the start, yet she has never mentioned it.

Don’t forget that in Mark City, there’s also a flower shop owner who the Lady of Pain uses as bait and whom outsiders dare not easily converse with.

That Dabas once served Eosca, largely because of the beautiful nature... his presence actually reflects some need of Mark City.

Even the Lady of Pain can’t do anything to him.

Mark City only responds to Dabas’s requests, and even now, when the Lady of Pain has driven him to the lower city, the shop owner’s requests are still effective.

Although the Lady of Pain used him as bait to trap those wanting to resurrect Eosca... there will always be loopholes to exploit.

Especially the Moonflower Queen, who is very skilled in illusion techniques and druid magic; I’ve heard elves from the Supreme Forest mention she can transform into the smallest hummingbird.

That’s a bird small enough to use jasmine flowers as a bed!

Having left Toril for so many years, she remains silent, surely having entered Mark City.

Moreover, given AO’s temper, he would definitely lend a hand... he might even place her directly into a pot to send to that flower shop.

In this aspect, List concurs... AO cannot tolerate even his daughter’s reach extending too far, let alone possibly competing with him for the control over Toril with a great divine power!

Why AO is most wary of that Nine-Faced Dragon God Eo, followed by Pluto Jacob, it’s clear to everyone.

The closer one is to his power, the greater his reaction.

The Lady of Pain is the type he remains vigilant of.

”Ah... although you mentioned it’s possible, since it came out of your mouth, it’s almost certain.” List, deeply trusting Hill’s words, said determinedly, ”We should prepare more, who knows where we might fall!”
