Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1412: Chapter 1202: The Undead Schemer Who Won’t Give Up

Riding two boats and hedging bets, this has been a common tactic among great families through the ages.

But hedging bets between an elephant and an ant, like Quel Senta does, is quite rare.

Fran could only look sympathetically at the two junior mages: even though some ants are quite ferocious, there’s no point if there are too few of them!

Despite being brutally criticized and feeling quite desolate, Devis quickly sorted out the rambling Luca.

When he confirmed that Fran was planning to take them away with an Otherworldly Whale, he calmly requested some shopping time: Since they’re going home, what’s the use of taking money back to Quel Senta?

The Agleya shop had so many good things… although they were definitely not cheap or good quality, having things Quel Senta didn’t was enough.

Unfortunately, the Strange Objects Shop wasn’t open yet.

Devis pondered for a while: When saying goodbye to Mr. Leonard, who was staying at the Municipal Officer’s house, could he ask Mr. Lynn to sell him some jewelry-like strange objects?

Devis was also quite disappointed but could still endure the current blow… After all, those fragmented young ladies were not part of his family.

After all, unlike Luca, no one dared to openly give up on the City State’s future heir.

He owed it to having a mother with a strong arranged marriage who only gave birth to him.

Although his family also remained silent, Devis understood.

His family could choose not to act, but they couldn’t stop the neighbors… joining forces would be enough to take down their City State’s neighbors… the idea of making a fortune.

The only thing he didn’t understand was his teacher, Edna’s biological father, who also chose silence… As one of the top Archmages of Quel Senta, if he had opposed firmly, even if those fragmented young ladies would still appear, at least they wouldn’t dare openly come to Agleya.

As soon as they appeared in Agleya, Edna should have realized she had been abandoned by her father.

If Edna wasn’t Mystra… Devis couldn’t even imagine how painful it would be for her.

Otherwise, both he and Luca wouldn’t have dared to speak much afterwards, and it was only after they realized Edna didn’t care much about them that they returned to normal.

Devis actually wanted to rush back and ask his teacher if his brain had been flooded with Ambori’s bathwater.

But just thinking that his teacher might be living in worse than death… even if he could withstand the blow himself, Azuth’s remote teachings might still leave him ashamed.

So the only thing he wanted to do now was to buy some good things to bring back to his beloved mother, thanking her existence for keeping the Devis family from losing everything in this big gamble.

Luca turned to look at his friend, suddenly reaching out to grab the ice ball floating next to Devis’s forehead, slapping it onto his own forehead before calmly speaking: “You’re saying goodbye to Leonard?

I need to go too.

And by the way, ask him if Edna’s little booklet recording teammates is still there.”

Devis raised an eyebrow, looking at the suddenly calm Luca.

“If that Goddess returns to Josse Garden with that booklet…” Luca spoke with a low but determined voice, lowering his head calmly, “then at least the two of us can protect our families and the Magic Tower… Your family might even let you step up directly.

As for my family… My brother might not have to struggle against a bunch of half-brothers.

And the Magic Tower might directly belong to me.

Phew… Life!

Think about that guy who died at the hands of the Haber Family, we should be grateful, right?

His City State and Magic Tower were appointed with a red-haired female mage from his own family because of his death, right?

I recognized her right away, the one with the Rouge Mark by her mouth.”

‘Bang’!

Fran, who had been sitting aside waiting for them to finish their conversation, had been contacting Diamond from Purwell to come and pick them up, and accidentally smashed his hand on the small side table at hearing this.

“Master Fran?” Luca was startled, “What’s wrong?”

“Rouge Mark, is that the girl who left with the Amur Shadow Thief?” Fran hinted as tactfully as possible, “Someone who’s no longer here, Lady Mistral probably wouldn’t care.”

Luca ‘Ah!’ screamed and was about to speak, but Devis quickly covered his mouth: “No, we little people cannot afford this turmoil!

Think about how many people in your family are waiting for your brothers to die early, and think about how many girls in your family follow Shuni!”

Luca struggled hard, prying at Devis’s hand.

Devis, panicking, continuously urged him to not say more.

Fran, who had been watching the little uproar in silence, couldn’t help but speak: “You’re covering his nose too.”

A sudden realization made Soma rush forward and pull away the young master’s hand.

“Ha~ Ahem ahem ahem!” Luca emitted a heart-tearing cough while pounding his chest.

“Ah… Sorry, Luca, I was too anxious,” Devis said awkwardly.

Luca weakly waved one hand, his voice hoarse as he said: “You were right to stop me… Do the same next time, just remember, don’t cover the nose.

Or give me a closed-loop breathing technique.”

Devis shook his head helplessly.

Watching as the two junior mages supported each other while flying towards Agleya City, Fran sighed with a hint of emotion.

Having spent years with the Undead Tribe, he had almost forgotten what it meant for deities to be inviolable.

In the past, he too had used all sorts of cryptic words to describe the Teraxil Divinity!

Fran summoned his Crystal Ball… Under the sunlight, countless crystal facets instantly emitted a myriad of dazzling colors.

In this world, to have the power to speak, one must possess sufficient strength.

Therefore, even though he was glad to see Hill in another world, he still had to take a different path with his grandson.

With Hill by his side, he would not be able to clearly see who he truly was.

As a mage, he absolutely could not let illusory power blind his eyes.

Although it was indeed quite glorious.

But, Fran lifted his head, whether it be a powerful Void Mount or a vast Half-plane, only the strength he found for himself was truly his own.

He completely suppressed the wavering in his heart that arose after seeing Hill hesitate to speak… That child never liked troubling others. Although he wanted Fran to accompany him, he was also unwilling to speak up.

He simply used those eloquent eyes to express his earnest longing.

Fran was indeed slightly swayed, but he couldn’t do that.

His life was different from Hill’s.

He had to walk step by step, steadily and surely, without taking any shortcuts.

Hill, standing on the Floating Castle, gazed blankly at the Otherworldly Whale slowly descending towards Heart Lake in the sky.

“Sir, were you hoping Mr. Fran would accompany you?” List appeared behind him, speaking solemnly, “Since it’s rare to meet in another world, then…”

Hill shook his head, stopping List’s words.

“Grandfather understands what I mean, but he doesn’t want to, not even planning to take Purwell with him, always using this as a pretext.” He sighed lightly, “List, I also want to hone myself!

But luck… is something entwined with my soul, and as long as I’m in a world with the Force of Nature, I will inevitably have fortune.

Moreover, I’m not so bored as to give up my greatest asset to experience a life of poverty.”

“Sir, you know these words aren’t suitable for others to hear, right?” List could only smile.

“Ah… better than gaining the benefit and then pretending to be humble, right?” Hill laughed, “What brings you to find me?”

“Mr. Lynn went to Hidden Town and left Mr. Leonard with a few Gaul.” List said with some difficulty, “They’ve been persistently asking Mr. Leonard whether he really never suspected Miss Edna’s identity?

Wondering why his eyes were so blind and the like.

Josanie is upset now, causing quite a stir.”

“It’s nothing.” Hill thought for a moment before saying, “Lynn must have done it on purpose; he thinks Leonard’s been listless for too long.

That’s the love from a brother, even at the cost of sacrificing his own house… We outsiders would do well to just watch.”

List felt something was off, but he understood the ‘don’t worry about it’ message.

“The East Tethyr people are almost at Deepwater City.” He brought up another matter.

“Has anyone unexpected appeared?” Hill turned his head curiously to ask.

“The Shoulong Empire’s caravan had a minor conflict with the messengers from Baldur’s Gate, resulting in a few casualties among the West Tessell people.”

“Hmm?”

“Yes, they fought at sea, and the ones who died were West Tessell people who happened to pass by.”

“Who did it?” Hill asked a bit speechless.

“On the surface, it was arrows shot from a Shoulong ship, but secretly, it was likely the work of that Wo person in Baldur’s Gate.” List said gravely, “The nobles and major merchants in Baldur’s Gate have remained silent since Baal’s upheavals.

Now, it’s almost entirely run by mercenary groups.

And the magic ships at sea… after the Undead Tribe cleaned the Sword Bay seas of pirates, there only seem to be a few Wo people’s ships left.

They seem to have a way to maintain themselves in the Neutral Faction.”

Hill suddenly chuckled, “Did I, during my time in the Shulong Empire, show a bit of aversion to the Wo people?

Was it… that obvious?”

List didn’t know how to answer.

Hill actually didn’t show it very clearly, but… he, who usually liked to give people a way out, indeed never held back when facing pirates.

“Doesn’t matter.” Hill said lightly, “If one crosses me, of course I won’t spare them. But… I’m not some war enthusiast who attacks people from that country on sight.

Really… still not giving up!”

List didn’t understand why Hill judged it this way, but he was aware that Hill was always sensitive in this area… The Tower Spirit was weak in this aspect instead.
