Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1418: Chapter 1208: Barso’s Despair

After a commotion with the little fairies, Hill settled into a calm period.

However, Toril, especially the Ferun Great Land, could not remain calm.

The Goddess Edna was rather straightforward, directly turning the Hidden Town into her Sacred Land, even leaving an avatar there to earnestly act as the Mayor!

Although she specially made the avatar look very different—like a little child—but after all, she is still a goddess!

The Weave Mages fell into a state of confusion.

But all they really worried about was whether they should make the long journey to the forest at the Foot of the World’s Spine to pay respects to the goddess residing in the Mortal Realm.

Mages from the Twisted Tower in Shadow Valley fell into a stagnant silence, more so than their own teachers, as they still remembered what they had done in the presence of Miss Edna.

Even if the Goddess doesn’t care about the foolishness of these little minions… they themselves care a lot!

For ordinary mages like them, the chance to see the Goddess of Magic in their lifetime might only come once, yet they left the goddess with a two-faced impression, where one face said ‘fool’ and the other ‘idiot’!

The Northern Seven Sisters, having disregarded their subordinates’ and students’ feelings, stayed in Luskan. After managing to suppress the wailing Sharol, they nervously sent a letter to Mystra, requesting a meeting.

Though Mystra’s Immortal Welcoming Castle has a Great Library open to all mages in the world… although this goddess did not make any demands, this Floating Castle atop the clouds does not have a Floating Stairway available for use.

There are two ways to go up: one is flying oneself… airships and the like are not allowed to approach the realm of Hidden Town, and all ships, even those that can fly, must fall down to travel through water after reaching here.

The other option is to ask the White Dragons living in the Hidden Forest to give a ride.

But the White Dragons, having had their appetites enlarged by the Undead Tribe, well know what opening their jaws wide means… after all, for those who can’t even manage to fly themselves, isn’t getting fleeced natural?

This is the library of the Goddess of Magic; without necessity, who would go up there to read books that ordinary people can access?

Therefore, Edna felt that the God of Knowledge Oghma’s dissatisfaction was entirely meaningless, as her library was not meant for the public!

It’s just that she has diverted most of those willing to spend a lot of money on books!

For deities who govern knowledge, as long as they see knowledge flowing, what more could they want, money?

Honestly, an ignorant deity.

Edna slowly shifted her posture and looked at Azuth, who had a puzzled expression and didn’t want to speak, as he said lightly: “Why haven’t you snapped out of it yet? Azuth.

I invited you to discuss what to do with the Lich God… why did you capture him!

Wouldn’t it have been better to let him escape to Hell?

If the Lord of Hell weren’t busy capturing Safras, you probably wouldn’t have managed to escape back!

Once he makes a move, it’s straight to strong Divine Power level!”

Azuth looked at the strikingly familiar beautiful face in front of him and finally came to his senses: “That’s not right!

Safras… to be frank, his divinity has little to do with the Weave. The prophecy mages in Toril, rather than observing the starry sky, communicate with the Tablets of Fate.

But Visaron is different; back when we cut off Talos’ hand reaching into the magic field, we granted him some permissions to the Weave.

Even if we can retract them, his soul is tainted by the Weave.

If, by any chance, some Great Devil consumes him, what if it invades the Weave?

Though the Weave is strong, there’s no need to take such risks!”

Edna put down her hand that was supporting her chin, swiftly dispelling the bored expression on her face, and said seriously: “I had oversimplified things.

But compared to that bit of trouble, your life is more important.

I certainly do not plan on replacing the Deity of Mages.”

Azuth was stunned for a moment, although he had long known that even with the same soul, Edna’s reincarnation was significantly different from Midnight, hearing such normal and rational words from a higher position almost brought tears to the old man’s eyes!

Of course, Azuth knew Edna didn’t hold him in such high esteem, even if this body had blood that was inherited from him… but, in truth, after becoming divine, the soul is what truly matters.

Otherwise, wouldn’t these deities be seeking out parents in their rebirths!

Moreover, every time Azuth thought of his son, who was sulking in the Quel Senta Mage Tower, he couldn’t help but be puzzled… how could he and Black Eye, both so wise, have such a foolish son?

For a group of young women carrying Mystra’s fragments, he was willing to offer Mithril Energy Core level treasures, and the only demand was his silence; he didn’t even ask for the distinguished students he previously sent over to be summoned back!

Couldn’t he think the other way around, and wonder if Edna signified even greater benefits?

Azuth couldn’t help but shift the blame over these few days: perhaps, having one’s thoughts suddenly clouded by desires is simply Black Eye’s nature, and then passed onto their son?

But when he looked up into Edna’s calm eyes, Azuth sometimes felt that Leopold’s foolishness this time wasn’t so bad.

Even though he didn’t receive the richest reward… Azuth had a feeling about where the person who tempted him with the Mithril Energy Core came from.

Who knows, if Leopold hadn’t been fooled, would the spatial rift that Safras fell into have opened right beside him?

Then his son, Azuth, might have directly become a little snack for the Lord of Hell.

Azuth, who could only think positively, smiled slightly: “It is an honor to serve the Goddess.”

Edna nodded in satisfaction: “For so long, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Deity of Mages to stabilize the Weave, I won’t forget your contributions.”

Azuth gently placed a hand on his chest in salute, then pondered as he spoke: “The Lord of Hell devoured Safras and might be tempted to reach for a part of the Weave, especially since the Shadow Demon Network has also been rejoined with the Weave. The dark section can easily resonate with him.”

Edna laughed: “Don’t worry, as long as Shaer and I can temporarily maintain a peaceful state, I will definitely not prevent her from once again reaching into the shadow power segment of the Weave.

As for Asmodius, as long as he adheres to the rules of the Weave, I will not stop him… whether Shaer can retain her territory depends on herself, or rather, on that part of the evil faction led by the Goddess of the Night.”

Azuth could hardly believe his ears… This new Goddess of Magic seems to understand letting go even better than Black Eye!

If only Black Eye could have done this back then, how could there have been so many issues from growing too quickly in power?

In the end, she allowed impulse to outweigh reason, driven by that seemingly endless power!

She thought that even if she couldn’t oppose AO, at least she would be respected by him… The inevitable result was an unwilling exit.

Unlike those two twin goddesses, AO could not bother about a tool that could be replaced at any moment.

Azuth suddenly rediscovered hope: his career as the Deity of Mages seemed like it could continue normally… Following Midnight for those years, sometimes he was so desperate that he thought it might be better to simply fall.

He couldn’t contain the joy from deep within his heart, grabbing the long white beard on his chest and laughing: “That’s right, as long as we ensure the safety of the Weave, that’s enough.

As for who uses it… who cares!”

After all, even AO himself doesn’t care.

The Deity of Mages surveyed the drastically changed castle… The first thing Edna did upon returning to Josse Garden was to make this palace identical to her beloved Immortal Welcoming Castle.

Where she received the Deity of Mages was the Great Library.

The bright yet soft radiance of Josse Garden shone directly into the library.

Surrounded by countless magic books, Azuth sighed in satisfied relief.

He finally had a proper and normal superior!

For those who were smiling joyously because they had a good superior, there were also those who were on the brink of tears due to their superior’s madness.

Though he survived one tumult after another, Olasco Barso, a devoted follower of Heim, lost the will to live.

Clad in armor, he floated on the sea… Coming from a navy background, he always had a Swimming Spell cast on him.

As a resilient warrior, Barso would certainly not willingly give up his life, yet drifting for so long without even a shark to take a bite at him crushed him with sorrow: Even Ambori’s sharks seemed to believe that a follower of Heim, even their flesh, carried a feeble-minded effect?

The current flowing through Chult slowly pushed him northward, and Barso encountered the first ship that stopped upon passing him… During this time, it wasn’t that no ships passed him, but possibly because the vividly conspicuous Guardian God’s emblem on his armor was too obvious, those ships mostly chose to accelerate and circumvent him.

“Hey? Isn’t that guy the store owner who witnessed Heim and Cyric bedding?”

So, it was an Undead Tribe’s ship!

That’s normal, they never cared about avoiding taboos, never afraid of believers who lost deities going mad, always speaking in a way that struck at others’ sore spots.

Hey? Barso froze for a moment, then suddenly jumped up: “Wait!

Did you… end up showing even my master’s part on that big screen?”

“Hmm?” A red-skinned Undead Tribe leaned over the ship’s side, looking down at him, “Such a great event, of course, it’s broadcasted on the full screen!”

“I was cautious!” Barso gritted his teeth, “Even having my master constantly use Divine Power to search the surroundings, there was not a trace of the Undead Tribe!”

“Ah! You mean the cameraman!

Shaer filmed it.” The Undead Tribe spoke calmly about the truth.

Barso only saw darkness before his eyes, his mind echoing like thunder… As a former viewer, he knew the giant screen of the Undead Tribe could replay endlessly.

Most importantly, the small fairies in all of Toril most skilled at gossiping were all in Agleya.

Did his Main God still have a hope of revival?
