Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1380: Chapter 717: Hidden Mountain Scholar

Where have all the scriptwriters gone?

Zhou Yun and Zhou Lan had a serious discussion about this problem and realized something: in their industry, scriptwriters with notable works have basically been monopolized by major production companies.

Whereas romance films precisely belong to the category of Chinese-language films with not very high box office sales currently.

Therefore, hardly any company arranges for scriptwriters to write romance stories.

However, in web dramas, due to the popularity of romance IP, every year there are many dramas adapted from these IPs with romance themes.

”Xiao Yun, do you think we should sign some potential scriptwriters for our studio?” Zhou Lan suddenly asked.

”Hmm?” Zhou Yun widened his eyes in surprise.

This was something Zhou Lan had never mentioned to him before.

Zhou Lan said, ”Our studio is not large, and we do not have many artists we can work with as these resources are essentially saturated. If we sign new talents, we don’t have that much capacity to handle them. So, this year I signed many big shots from various industries for managerial representation. However, these managerial representations primarily engage in business aspects, which are not closely related to the film industry. Signing scriptwriters, on one hand, is because there isn’t really a standardized company specializing in scriptwriter managerial representation; renowned scriptwriters either work solo or under a big company. On the other hand, scriptwriters are still relatively close to actors, and if we nurture good scriptwriters, we can obtain good scripts from the source, assemble a team, and produce the film.”

Zhou Yun said, ”If we sign scriptwriters, do we have the channels to promote them?”

Zhou Lan said, ”New scriptwriters generally need someone to lead them into the industry. My idea is that our studio will act as an intermediary to find them mentors.”

”We are actually very unfamiliar with the field of scriptwriting; that’s my main concern.”

”We have to try first, and I also believe there is a vast space for growth,” Zhou Lan said. ”Now the entire industry is increasingly valuing scriptwriters, and their remuneration has been steadily increasing. I believe the future remuneration for scriptwriters will certainly have a large space.”

Zhou Yun said, ”Do you have any potential candidates in mind?”

”Not yet.” Zhou Lan shook her head, ”I haven’t formally met anyone. If we really decide to do this, I will start exploring in various colleges.”

”Hmm.”

Their studio’s profit reached 30 million last year, which was an excellent achievement for a small studio like theirs.

According to Zhou Lan’s expectations, profits will be even higher this year because, after Yuk Chu became popular early in the year, she undertook numerous business deals with significant revenue sharing.

On the other hand, this year, Zhou Lan also brokered many individual business deals, accumulating substantial income.

However, at the same time, the studio’s expenses have risen significantly this year.

Currently, the studio comprises more than 80 people, with an average personnel cost of 200,000 yuan per person per year, totaling over 10 million yuan in expenses. This does not include artists’ travel, attire, and day-to-day operational costs.

Only when Zhou Lan started managing the studio herself, did she truly understand what it means for money to flow like water.

But, despite this, Zhou Lan still believes this money has to be spent and is worth spending.

Only when each line truly thrives can a professional team be forged.

Just like the current studio’s business team and PR team, once they mature, Zhou Lan believes they might be able to broaden the service scope.

This year, the business team earned over 10 million in agency fees from non-artist service clients, something unimaginable before.

This has been bolstered by a wide array of activities now, with brands preferring to have their brand partners encompass various industries beyond just artists, giving an aura of sophistication.

So, through the studio’s networking, renowned writers, fashion personalities, directors, scriptwriters, and notable figures from various industries that Zhou Lan signed have attended countless business activities and collaborations.

This is something Zhou Lan has always wanted to achieve while managing the studio.

She intends to provide not just entertainment industry services, but comprehensive managerial services.

...

Previously, Zhou Yun promised Yuh Huaijiang to assist in a cameo role for a new director’s film.

This movie started filming in July.

Due to Zhou Yun’s tight schedule, a week was specially set aside to shoot Zhou Yun’s scenes.
