Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1377: Chapter 716: Love Story

He Yong’s face changed.

”What do you mean?”

”I’m just reminding you of one thing, since this matter has come to my knowledge, it means someone doesn’t want it to succeed. I don’t wish for Zuo Zhiheng to be a co-director; that’s simply my opinion. But I think aside from me, there should be others who share the same thought,” Zhou Yun said. ”As for who they are, I don’t know. I suppose you’ll need to find that answer yourself.”

He Yong’s face stiffened.

He stopped speaking.

Zhou Yun said, ”I believe I’ve made my point clear. President He, I hope you seriously consider it. I have other matters to attend to later, so I’ll take my leave.”

”Xiao Yun.” He Yong called out to her.

Zhou Yun looked at him.

”From whom did you hear the news?” He Yong asked.

Zhou Yun retorted, ”Is the answer to this question important?”

He Yong said, ”If you can give me the answer, I can locate that person faster.”

”And then?” Zhou Yun said, ”Unless you can also be promoted to Vice President of the group, even if you know who that person is, you won’t be able to compete with them.”

He Yong pressed his lips together.

”President He, no matter what, Sister Lan and I have always firmly stood by your side. In every decision we make, we’ve steadfastly chosen you. I hope you don’t always think of us as tools for your use, even though I know our relationship is merely one of mutual interests. If things are done too heartlessly, over time, we will also become heartless.”

After speaking, Zhou Yun turned and left He Yong’s office.

He Yong took a deep breath, his eyes filled with apprehension as he watched Zhou Yun.

...

In the evening, Zhou Lan came to Zhou Yun’s home to have dinner with her.

Song Chi cooked several dishes.

”Care for a drink?” Zhou Yun brought out a bottle of red wine and asked.

Zhou Lan shook her head, ”I drove here, I won’t drink with you.”

Zhou Yun poured some for herself and Song Chi, and then poured juice for Zhou Lan.

Once dinner was ready, Zhou Yun recounted the events that took place in He Yong’s office that afternoon.

Zhou Yun had already discussed this matter with Zhou Lan and Song Chi, and they knew she was going to talk to He Yong.

”Didn’t He Yong suspect who tipped you off?” Zhou Lan asked first.

”He didn’t say,” Zhou Yun shook her head, ”But I think he must have suspects in mind. At the end, he still tried to find out from me who had informed me.”

”Anyway, we’ll stick to not revealing anything and scare him a bit. Otherwise, he might always think he’s in control of the big picture, treating each of us like puppets he can manipulate.” Zhou Lan sneered, showing disdain for He Yong.

Zhou Yun laughed.

The wine in her glass was finished.

Song Chi poured a little more.

”Sounds like a spy drama,” he joked.

Zhou Lan: ”Isn’t it just? I used to think that after all these years of dealings, he would have learned some lessons, but no, he always thinks he’s the smartest person and regards everyone else as fools.”

Zhou Yun: ”Why would he make such a rookie mistake if he’s so clearly smart?”

”Because he’s smart. That’s just the flaw of smart people,” Zhou Lan pointed out sharply. ”Besides, he’s been quite smug lately. With Zhang Mo and Zhou Jianfeng gaining popularity, they replaced the void left by Li Ci’s decline. Among female artists, you and the others are advancing rapidly. No matter what calculations you make within the company, outside the company, you all represent the company’s strength. He seems to want to return to his peak period.”

Zhou Yun: ”But seeing Li Ci today left me speechless. It feels like his world has changed so much, yet he hasn’t changed at all, never considering what he should do.”

”Half of this is his own fault, and half is He Yong’s,” Zhou Lan said, ”Think about how He Yong and the company treated Li Ci when he was popular? It was as if they gave him whatever he wanted and agreed to anything. Li Ci has this personality partly because He Yong spoiled him.”

”Yes,” Zhou Yun agreed, ”If not for He Yong’s indulgence, Li Ci wouldn’t have developed this kind of personality.”

Zhou Lan: ”As I see it, it’s Ning Yao and Wei Ru Xue leaving the company and not renewing their contracts that sparked a change in He Yong’s thinking. I’ve always felt he deliberately nurtures artists in a way that makes them less clever, so he can keep them under his control.”
