Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1294: Chapter 688: Party and Socializing_2

He whispered in Zhou Yun’s ear, ”The morning was really too rushed.”

Zhou Yun blushed slightly.

”Then tonight we have enough time.” She raised her eyes, a smile filling them, ”Let’s go.”

Zhou Yun and Song Chi left early, disappointing many who wanted to take this chance to connect with them.

But in such a marketplace of fame and fortune, even without Zhou Yun and Song Chi, there are others worth interacting with and investing in.

Zhou Lan stayed behind, bringing Wang Jing along to greet film company bosses, directors, screenwriters, even famous photographers, leaving no one out.

”You’re not yet at the stage where a role is yours for certain, so you need to try to build good relationships with everyone who might influence you.” Zhou Lan shared her insights with Wang Jing when she had a moment, ”Sometimes, just one person’s word can greatly change your situation. Look, in this industry, Ning Xiner’s acting is average, her popularity is average too, but she has a management company backing her strongly, helping her manage all kinds of relationships. She also works hard, chatting and taking photos with everyone all night, unknowingly bringing herself closer to everyone. She’s played so many lead roles. Behind her, the management company is working hard, but she herself has credit too. Almost no director who’s worked with her doesn’t praise her.”

Wang Jing said, ”I don’t want to be an actor like her, I want to be an actor like Sister Xiao Yun.”

Zhou Lan laughed, saying, ”Do you think your Sister Xiao Yun is so out of touch with reality? When she needs to maintain relationships, she never hesitates. You see, she originally didn’t want to attend this party tonight, but she came because she had to meet and greet many people.”

Wang Jing nodded, ”Sister Lan, I know. What I mean is, I don’t want to be an actor whom everyone likes and praises, but who isn’t actually that good.”

”An actor having ambition is a good thing. If you didn’t have this ambition, I’d be disappointed,” Zhou Lan said, ”You have great qualities like Xiao Yun. I basically don’t need to worry about your personal life, and even less about your work. You’re serious, diligent, and willing to sacrifice some unimportant things, which is rare. The only thing I need to do for you is help you secure those key opportunities that will have the biggest impact on your career. But besides that, Xiao Jing, there’s something else I want to tell you.”

Wang Jing looked at Zhou Lan, ”Sister Lan, what do you want to tell me?”

”Don’t compare yourself to Zhou Yun,” Zhou Lan said seriously, ”Do you know where Xu Siyao failed most?”

Wang Jing frowned, looking puzzled.

”Is it because she’s not genuine?”

”No,” Zhou Lan shook her head, ”Though it sounds extreme, being genuine isn’t the decisive factor for success. It’s not that genuine people always succeed or disingenuous ones don’t. That’s not the point. To me, Xu Siyao’s biggest failure is that from the start, she aimed to surpass your Sister Xiao Yun, constantly trying to show she was no weaker than Xiao Yun in any aspect. Because of this, she caused a lot of drama, and everyone came to know about her jealousy toward Xiao Yun.”

”But as an actor, you can have idols, yet you shouldn’t turn that idol into someone you intend to surpass.” Zhou Lan said, ”Once you have someone you want to surpass in your heart, you lose a broader vision.”

Wang Jing was taken aback.

Zhou Lan said, ”Look at those remarkable actors, they all seem to have an aura that makes them feel absolutely unique, calm and collected, passionate, or bad-tempered. Whatever their personalities, they share this common trait.”

Wang Jing said, ”I also used to think about whether I should imitate that, but later I realized it’s not something I can emulate. I am who I am. In front of the camera, I can pretend to be one way, but I can’t deceive myself about what’s real. If I’m destined to walk the path of hard work making up for lack of talent, then that’s fine too, being generous and having poise helps. I shouldn’t walk a path I’m not good at, making my legs shake.”
