Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1258: Chapter 676: Putting on a Show (2)

Zeng Yeng was stunned.

Wen Bing had been angry with her before, but never this rude.

For a moment, Zeng Yeng was bewildered, at a loss.

”Director Wen, let’s talk things through, don’t rush. I’m just following the company’s procedures.”

”You’re a producer, not just a tool.” Wen Bing said, ”We’re making a film, not assembling toys on a production line. Every shoot encounters unexpected situations requiring on-site script modifications. The script review committee evaluates budgets and markets—they don’t concern me—but if I can’t even make minor on-site changes, then replace me as the director of this film, because I can’t work under these conditions!”

He waved his hand and stormed off.

People nearby turned to look, curious about what happened between Wen Bing and Zeng Yeng.

The two would argue every three days, and have a big fight every five days, so people were used to it.

What intrigued everyone was why they argued every day.

Zeng Yeng looked a bit embarrassed.

It was, indeed, understandable.

Wen Bing had blown up at her in front of so many crew members; where was her dignity as a producer?

Zeng Yeng picked up her phone and walked out.

”President Yao, Director Wen has such a temper, he lashed out at me again just now. I really followed your instructions fully; I didn’t argue or lose my temper with him.”

Zeng Yeng spoke on the phone, defending herself.

”But can we keep going like this? He’s not some venerable old man to worship at home.”

Yao Yuanfeng asked with a chuckle, ”What happened again? What did he do this time?”

”He said he wanted to change the script. I said it could be changed, but the revised parts need to be submitted to the company’s script review committee for approval, and he exploded, saying if he didn’t even have this little bit of authority, he’d rather we change directors.” Zeng Yeng sighed, ”Honestly, I’ve been a producer at our company for so many years; I’ve worked with countless directors. People can discuss calmly about major issues. Collaboration includes disagreements, which are normal, but don’t keep threatening to quit—it’s childish.”

”Artists, you know how they are. You need to coax them a bit.”

”Oh, President Yao, you don’t know how much I’ve coaxed and pampered him.” Zeng Yeng said, ”Honestly, when you first asked me to manage this project, I didn’t want to. He’s a famed director, collaborating again with the major celebrity Zhou Yun. They have such a close relationship. Once they align, how would I manage this crew? But you trust me, so how could I let it down? I took on this project, facing difficulties and pressure, fearing nothing but the constant threat of quitting. I dare not speak, afraid my actions might cause the renowned director to leave and spread rumors as if I’m squeezing out this talented director.”

”Zeng Yeng, I know your struggles, and I know it’s not easy for you, but I truly believe in you. How many people want to work on Wen Bing’s film projects? Look at the last two films he directed; a few million budgeted art film made hundreds of millions, sold overseas, with other rights totaling over a billion. Not to mention ’Two tigers’—such a great box office hit—it’s clear ’Female Assassin’ will do equally well. Do you want to hand over this project experience and success to someone else? Many have approached me lobbying for it, but I kept it for you, because I know you can handle it, and I have high hopes for you. Wen Bing is one of New Shield’s most important collaborating directors from now on; if you can’t manage him, how can I ever trust you to be my right-hand?”

Yao Yuanfeng’s implied encouragement suddenly invigorated Zeng Yeng.

She worked diligently, striving to advance in her career.

The message Yao Yuanfeng conveyed over the phone was precisely what Zeng Yeng wanted to hear and achieve.

”Alright, President Yao, seeing as you’ve put it this way, it would be quite unsophisticated of me to complain further. Rest assured, no matter what, I will ensure this film is completed smoothly.” Zeng Yeng said and then changed the tone, ”However, I also need more authority, like the power to modify the script according to the shoot, as long as the main storyline and overall tone aren’t disturbed—I hope you can authorize me to make such script adjustments, otherwise, how can Wen Bing and Zhou Yun respect me as the producer?”
