Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 646: Chapter 474: Constant Disappointment

Zhou Yun instantly felt like she had been slapped in the face.

At that moment, Song Chi grabbed Zhou Yun’s hand.

”How embarrassing.” Zhou Yun gave Song Chi a bitter smile and said, ”Got slapped in the face.”

Song Chi pursed her lips at her and said, ”It’s okay, I know how well you acted.”

Zhou Yun nodded, ”I’m fine.”

She began to clap.

Her applause merged with that of the entire audience.

Several people around glanced over at her. Before the award results were announced, she was the biggest favorite for this award. Yet tonight, an upset occurred, and an old veteran won. Everyone subconsciously wanted to know her reaction.

Zhou Yun felt a faint disappointment in her heart—not too strong, just feeling it was a pity that Liu Rusu didn’t win the award.

She smiled and clapped, sending the winner to the stage to give an acceptance speech.

However, what Zhou Yun didn’t expect was that in the following Best Actor category, Song Chi also didn’t win the award; it once again went to an old veteran.

From this point on, ”Heart Inquiry” was completely shut out in the performance awards at the Huayu Award.

Barely holding back laughter, Zhou Yun said to Song Chi, ”It looks like both of us are not so lucky tonight.”

Song Chi, holding Zhou Yun’s hand, said, ”It seems we’re not exactly the jury’s favorites.”

Zhou Yun: ”Ah, now I just hope that Director Kang can win an award.”

Song Chi nodded.

The two of them whispered under the stage, but online it was a huge uproar.

The fighting power of their fans was top-notch in the entertainment industry. Yet neither of them won an award, and their fans had already gone into an uproar.

The main reason was that the two TV dramas starring the winners were really unexpected, and hardly anyone had watched them.

”Golden Butterfly” had only Ke Yong nominated.

At this time, Zhou Yun’s haters came out to make trouble, saying: ”Wasn’t it said that Zhou Yun was sure to win the award? Now she’s been slapped in the face.”

Zhou Yun’s fans were furious, starting fights with others.

And yet, the Best Actress category didn’t result in an upset, as Wei Ru Xue won as expected, shedding tears on the stage.

Zhou Yun watched Wei Ru Xue give her acceptance speech with reddened eyes, feeling even more at peace inside.

Zhou Yun and Song Chi stayed to the end, waiting for the announcement of the Best Director Award, unexpectedly, Director Kang Xin also did not win.

The winner was the director of ”Spring Cold.”

It was an even bigger upset than Zhou Yun’s category. After all, the other four nominated directors for ”Spring Cold” were all esteemed veterans, and although ”Spring Cold” was a hit, its reputation was not as good as the other works.

Zhou Yun and Song Chi looked at the winner in surprise, the latter excitedly hugging Wei Ru Xue.

Zhou Yun and Song Chi turned to look at Kang Xin.

Director Kang Xin smiled indifferently, appearing totally calm.

He truly was a big shot who didn’t care about these awards.

At this point, ”Heart Inquiry” could be said to have been completely defeated, not winning a single award.

It all came down to the final Best TV Drama award.

Due to the repeated defeats before, Zhou Yun didn’t feel too optimistic.

And when the winning TV drama’s name was read, her bad premonition was confirmed.

This year’s Huayu Award, ”Heart Inquiry” came away empty-handed.

Zhou Yun didn’t know how to describe her feelings.

She felt terrible, worse than when the Best Supporting Actress was announced and it wasn’t her.

”Heart Inquiry” was a good TV series, Zhou Yun was completely confident of this. She didn’t know if this TV series would become a classic, remembered and discussed and watched after ten, twenty years. But at this year’s Huayu Award, Zhou Yun didn’t think there was a better TV series than ”Heart Inquiry.”

The only one that could compete with ”Heart Inquiry” in terms of influence was ”Spring Cold,” but artistically, ”Spring Cold” was inferior to ”Heart Inquiry,” which was visible to everyone.

Yet ”Spring Cold” won both Best Director and Best Actress tonight, making it the biggest winner.

After the award ceremony concluded, Zhou Yun and Song Chi went to hug Director Kang Xin.

Director Kang Xin encouraged them, saying, ”Whether a series wins an award or not involves many factors. Don’t feel dejected just because you didn’t win, you both did great.”

Zhou Yun didn’t expect that at this time, Kang Xin was still comforting them.

”Director, you are the best director in my heart.”

Kang Xin smiled and patted Song Chi on the shoulder.

”It’s late. I won’t be attending the party later; I’m going to get some rest. You go have fun.”

Originally ”Heart Inquiry” had also planned a celebratory dinner after the official Huayu Award party.

It seems that’s not necessary now.

Zhou Yun and Song Chi looked at each other and smiled, saying: ”With tonight’s results, neither of us is really in the mood to celebrate. We’re going back to rest too.”

At this time, the chairman of this year’s Huayu Award organizing committee came over to them.

He still greeted them politely: ”Director Kang, Yuzhen, Xiao Chi, Xiao Yun, you’re all here.”

Of course, they were there, these were some of the nominees for ”Heart Inquiry.”

Kang Xin: ”Hello, Director Huang.”

Director Huang said, ”Director Kang, sorry, I didn’t expect ’Heart Inquiry’ to not win a single award. Actually, during the voting, everyone had a high opinion of ’Heart Inquiry.’”

Kang Xin merely hummed, saying, ”If you didn’t have a high opinion, that would be the real surprise.”

His words were direct enough that Director Huang was taken aback and momentarily at a loss for words.

Zhou Yun secretly laughed in her heart.

Director Huang said: ”Director Kang, I wanted to give ’Heart Inquiry’ several awards, but as the chairman, I still have to respect the voting results.”

”Uh-huh,” nodded Kang Xin, ”You don’t have to be busy with us, go and attend to them.”

He gestured with his hand, indicating he was about to leave.

”Aren’t you going to join us all for a drink, have a chat?”

”I’m old, I don’t have the energy for that,” Kang Xin waved his hand, maintaining face without saying anything excessive, and left.

Zhou Yun and Song Chi also prepared to leave.

Suddenly, a staff member came over and said: ”Mr. Song, Miss Zhou, would you mind going to the interview room to take questions from the reporters now? The journalists have asked to interview you.”

Song Chi smilingly said, ”Please thank the journalists for their kindness, but it’s late, and we need to go back now.”

He declined the staff member’s request and, holding Zhou Yun’s hand, walked out.

That night, the term ”Heart Inquiry Huayu Award without a single win” topped the trending searches.

The internet seemed to explode, if Zhou Yun and Song Chi not winning awards was only a matter for their fans, ”Heart Inquiry” not winning any awards had angered all its viewers.

And ”Heart Inquiry” just happened to be the most beloved and highly-rated TV series nominated at this year’s Huayu Award.
