Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 444: Chapter 442: The Missing Academy

Looking back at the path he came from, Gu Xi found that the road which had disappeared before had now reopened, and from his position, he could see the great lake beyond the mountains at a glance.

He could even see the white smoke billowing from the train’s engine.

But now, the ideas of the past no longer occupied Gu Xi’s mind.

He realized that he was being given a chance to choose between two options.

The entrance ceremony to the Mysterious Academy had begun the moment he appeared in the forest.

Perhaps there were other choices between these mountains and the lake, but as long as two different options appeared, Gu Xi was left to make his own judgment.

Every move Gu Xi made would affect what he learned in this Mysterious Academy.

Of course, Gu Xi was unaware that entering the Mysterious Academy involved such troublesome matters.

He instinctively looked back, then planted the Cold Wind Staff in front of the burial ground.

Then Gu Xi freed his hands, pressing downward toward the burial ground, a fragment of soul flew into the earth below.

The burial ground began to tremble incessantly, as though the entire mountain was about to explode.

Yet Gu Xi paid no heed to this; he felt that his Soul Summoning Skill seemed to have grown much stronger, and the range for summoning had expanded to encompass the entire nearby mountain.

At that moment, a ten-meter-high white bone arm stretched out from underground, this arm being merely the size of a normal small forearm.

As it emerged from the ground, the arm flipped downward, pushing forcefully as a massive skull was propped out from below.

Before Gu Xi could control the enormous skeleton, it opened its mouth, and a skeleton draped in a black robe, the size of a normal human, crawled out from the mouth of the giant skull.

”A new student, are you intending to go to the Mysterious Academy?”

This voice was no longer a soul whisper, but a normal voice.

Before Gu Xi could answer, the skeleton said again, ”It seems you’ve already chosen my way, though I don’t know how you found it, but you’ve made your choice, so tell me, what do you wish to learn?”

”I still get to choose?”

Gu Xi was speechless for a moment.

He quickly realized his mistake and immediately said, ”Leadership Skill, I want to learn the Leadership Skill.”

”Leadership Skill? Wouldn’t you be better off taking the train directly? Why come to me?

Forget it, I somewhat understand what’s going on now, I know some Leadership Skills, I can teach you.”

The skeleton beckoned to Gu Xi, signaling him to come closer.

Gu Xi glanced at the skeleton, finally taking a step forward.

He was well aware that the earlier Soul Summoning was unsuccessful, and that the black-robed skeleton had crawled out on its own.

The earlier summoning merely stimulated his emergence.

Now Gu Xi wasn’t sure whether the skeleton was neutral or friendly.

The skeleton simply gestured for Gu Xi to come forward, then began speaking.

”There is no need to fear, although I don’t understand why you came to find me, I do need to explain some things about the Academy to you.

Originally, we had a large academy here, divided into four faculties, each holding a treasure that determined the direction of a Basic Skill.

The Leadership Skill you wish to learn is not actually studied within our faculty, our foundation is in Logistics.

But the person on the train, their foundation is in Leadership Skill.

The foundations of the other two faculties are Pathfinding Skill and Luck Skill, respectively.

These are the four Basic Skills that can be learned at our academy.

That was when the academy still existed.”

The black-robed skeleton seemed to have thought of something and directly sat down at the giant skeleton’s teeth, extending a hand to conjure a cup from the teeth, filled with a light green liquid.

After taking a few sips, the black-robed skeleton began to speak again.

”However, as things developed, the conflict between the four faculties deepened, which eventually led to a great war, and the entire academy was blasted into the interstices of time and space.

That’s why things are the way they are now.

But coming here to learn the Leadership Skill is indeed the right place.

Elsewhere, with your identity as an Undead Mage, you wouldn’t be able to learn the Leadership Skill, no one would teach you.

Everyone would say, why would an Undead Mage, who doesn’t need morale, learn Leadership Skill.

Back when the academy was around, you couldn’t learn it either.

It’s only now, with the people left in the academy having turned into these not-quite-human not-quite-ghost forms, that they would accept your idea and teach you Leadership Skill.”

Only then did Gu Xi understand that his appearance here was entirely due to his mutter when activating the academy entrance ticket.

The tea known as the Golden Cake was indeed effective.

It had directly brought him to the place most suitable for learning the Leadership Skill.

An Undead Mage looking to learn Leadership Skill should seek out an undead who masters Leadership to learn from them.

This understanding made perfect sense to Gu Xi.

With this realization, Gu Xi immediately looked at the black-robed skeleton before him.

”Can I learn all four skills?”

”I can teach you Logistics right away, but after that, I won’t be able to teach you anything else.

Unless you can find the academy that was blasted away to who-knows-where, or other deans, otherwise you won’t be able to learn anything more from me.

Therefore, you’d best think carefully about whether you want to learn from me.

Oh, and one more thing to note, I’m a mortal enemy of the guy on the train who can directly teach the Leadership Skill.

If you learn from me, it’ll be impossible to learn anything from him later.”

This statement blocked some of Gu Xi’s ideas.

”You might as well say, with the academy gone, you’re stuck with a four-choose-two scenario.”

”Three-choose-two, you can’t learn Luck Skill; that department’s professor obtained the treasures from the other three faculties and combined them, and is now with the academy in the interstices of time and space.

You can’t find him here at all.

You can only choose between Logistics, Leadership Skill, and Pathfinding Skill.

As for Leadership Skill, you can learn from me, or you can go to the train to learn.

However, once at the train, you’ll only be able to learn Pathfinding Skill.

Maybe not even Pathfinding Skill, but if you study Leadership Skill with me, I can tell you a place to find someone who will teach you Logistics.”

After speaking, the black-robed skeleton patted the giant skeleton beside him.

Gu Xi suddenly realized that the giant skeleton before him likely utilized some undead and Logistics methods.

He was being reminded to choose wisely.
