Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 1268: Run Away

’We should leave.’ Nalan Wangzi spoke through voice transmission.

Zhang Fei agreed with Nalan Wangzi and wanted to take her away, but countless tree roots quickly emerged from the ground and trapped the two of them. They looked up at the Blood Tree King, who looked down at them.

’Crap!’ Nalan Wangzi inwardly cursed.

Unlike her, Zhang Fei still relaxed under the pressure of the Blood Tree King. He used tree control and plant manipulation, which he mimicked from Janette and Lillea long ago, to remove those tree roots.

Zhang Fei then took Nalan Wangzi to teleport away from the Blood Tree King, but it shot many sharp tree branches toward them. He used forest manipulation, and the tree under them grew tall, blocking its attacks.

*Roar*

The Blood Tree King released a furious roar because its attacks failed to hit them. It summoned those powerful bloodthirsty demon beasts to hunt the two, and some of them immediately flew after them.

The Blood Tree King also tried to block them from escaping, but Zhang Fei’s three abilities prevented it from attacking them, causing it to become even more furious.

”Why didn’t you use those abilities from the start, brother-in-law?” Nalan Wangzi asked in an annoyed tone.

Zhang Fei kept teleporting to avoid the pursuit of those powerful bloodthirsty demon beasts. ”If I had used them from the start, the Blood Tree King would have noticed us, and it would have attacked us long ago.”

Nalan Wangzi nodded slightly. ”How did you come to possess the abilities of the Dryad Race?”

”Haha.” Zhang Fei looked back and saw the Blood Tree King already far behind them. ”I have a special ability to mimic other demons’ abilities, and I mimicked them from three different Dryads because they are useful for diversion and alchemy.

Several flying bloodthirsty demon beasts suddenly blocked the path ahead of them, shocking Zhang Fei.

’The speed of these flying beasts is quite fast so they can keep up with my teleportation ability.’ Zhang Fei opened his palm and threw his eternal flame at them.

Those flying bloodthirsty demon beasts tried to counterattack Zhang Fei with their blood abilities, but their attacks evaporated upon contact with his eternal flame, and they hurriedly flew away as soon as the flame nearly touched their bodies.

Zhang Fei used his golden crow flame, shaped it into a jagged disc, and threw it at them. Despite their superior strength, those flying bloodthirsty demon beasts panicked seeing his attack, and they flew faster than before.

Zhang Fei smirked slightly and controlled his flame with his aura, allowing it to chase after the beasts. He summoned the demon extermination sword, channeled his flame element into it, and slashed it toward them. ”Last move: Ashen Bloom!”

*Swoosh*

A flurry of petals made of sword intent bloomed from nothing, and it hurtled towards those flying bloodthirsty demon beasts while destroying everything in its path, including tree branches controlled by the Blood Tree King from a distance.

Once again, Zhang Fei slashed his sword, but he slashed it behind them, specifically towards the Blood Tree King’s location. ”Last move: Sever the Heavenly Path!”

*Swoosh*

A giant golden sword shot out from Zhang Fei’s sword and hurtled towards the Blood Tree King. Unfortunately, the difference in their strength was simply too great, and it shattered his attack directly.

Zhang Fei had already predicted that the Blood Tree King could easily destroy his attack, but he didn’t think too much about it, and he used the nine cloud steps directly.

*Roar*

The Blood Tree King released a furious roar once again after Zhang Fei and Nalan Wangzi disappeared from its sight, but it immediately ordered all the plants and bloodthirsty demon beasts to search for their whereabouts.

Up in the sky, Shang Zhui’s gaze focused on Zhang Fei, who had already brought Nalan Wangzi to the outer perimeter of the Blood Forest.

”His second flame is obviously the golden crow flame, but I can’t recognize his first flame. How did he obtain both flames? Unfortunately, his first flame was only a fragment, not the complete one like his golden crow flame, so he couldn’t use its power to its full potential. If he had the complete one, he could destroy this forest in the blink of an eye, and the Blood Tree King would also die in his hands.” Shang Zhui then turned his gaze to the heart of the Blood Forest, and he could see that the colossal tree was fully enraged. ”What does that kid really want in this forest? Why does he have to challenge that old tree?”

Shang Zhui released a soft sigh before flying away, catching up with Zhang Fei and Nalan Wangzi.

Zhang Fei and Nalan Wangzi had just left the Blood Forest, but Shang Zhui appeared before them and took the two of them away with him.

Soon, they arrived at Shang Zhui’s private quarters, and he questioned Zhang Fei directly. ”What are you really looking for in the Blood Forest? Do you know that you made a huge mistake by enraging the Blood King Tree?”

”Aren’t you mistaken about that, senior?” Zhang Fei turned the question around. ”You’ve been observing us since we entered the forest, so you should have noticed that we had no intention of disturbing the Blood Tree King. However, it attacked us first, prompting me to retaliate in order to escape. Besides, I wasn’t looking for anything in the forest, and I just wanted to train there. Since the beasts in the area around the heart of the forest were strong, I went there to fight them, but that tree noticed our arrival and tried to trap us.

Since he had been watching them from the start, Shang Zhui had no doubt that Zhang Fei was indeed seeking training. However, he doubted that he was looking for something in the forest because he had previously mentioned the underground river, and he believed the thing he was looking for was related to it.

Nalan Wangzi immediately spoke to Shang Zhui. ”Uncle Zhui, we are indeed looking for something in the forest, but it has nothing to do with your asura demon race.”

”Hmm?” Zhang Fei turned to Nalan Wangzi, who asked him not to worry about Shang Zhui. ’I hope you’re right, or I’ll make new enemies.’

’Trust me, okay?’ Zhang Fei nodded slightly to Nalan Wangzi.

Shang Zhui asked them. ”What exactly are you looking for there? How do you know about the underground river?”

”Sorry, Uncle Zhui. I can’t tell you the details because it’s too sensitive, but I can assure you that it has nothing to do with your race, and it won’t cause any chaos in this domain.” Shang Zhui furrowed his brows, but Nalan Wangzi still had no intention of telling him about the statue of the ten-tailed fox hidden beneath the heart of the Blood Forest. ”Do you know a safe route to go to the underground river?”

”No.” Shang Zhui shook his head in response. ”If you want to go there, you have only two paths to choose from, with the first one located beneath the Blood Tree King. As for the second one, you have to dive into the Blood River, and you will find a small cave that connects the two places. However, that place is filled with powerful wandering evil souls, and both of you will die if you rashly enter it.”

Zhang Fei already knew about it, but he was still considering taking the second path because the Blood Tree King was furious with him, so it was impossible for him to take the first path. ”Can the Slaughter Blood Phantom take me there, senior?”

”Hmm?” Shang Zhui frowned at Zhang Fei, but he then nodded to him. ”Since the Slaughter Blood Phantom likes you, I think you can try asking its help to take you there, and those wandering evil souls shouldn’t dare attack you if it’s with you.”

Nalan Wangzi then asked Zhang Fei, ”Do you want to try going there via the second route now?”

”No.” Zhang Fei shook his head slightly. ”Tian Shuixiang is still in there, and the Slaughter Blood Phantom is still assisting her, so it won’t be able to help me. Therefore, I’ll wait until they’re done, and then I’ll try to get it to take me there.”

”What exactly is my son doing in there?” Shang Zhui asked.

Zhang Fei first examined the room. ”Can anyone hear us here?”

”No.” Shang Zhui shook his head slightly. ”Not even Shang Zhanluo or Shang Luohu can eavesdrop on us, so you don’t need to worry about them.”

”I see.” Zhang Fei nodded in understanding before telling Shang Zhui about the Asura Demon Bloodline Crystal Essence, which shocked him. ”At first, I wanted to obtain that crystal, but the Slaughter Blood Phantom refused my request. Instead, I persuaded that phantom to give it to Tian Shuixiang, and he is in the process of absorbing it now. Honestly, I don’t know whose bloodline in the crystal essence it belongs to, but I’m sure your son will become truly powerful in the future, and he will probably be able to surpass Shang Zhanlui.”

Shang Zhui fell into deep thought for a long time after hearing all that. ”If your words are true, that bloodline should belong to the first Asura Demon God. If that’s true, my son will not only surpass Shang Zhanluo, but he might even reach the Primordial Demon Rank in the future, which no one has ever achieved before.”
