I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 546: 529: Battle with WandererChapter 546: Chapter 529: Battle with Wanderer

Hearing Atom’s request to duel with her human form, Mu Ying agreed without hesitation as she had the same intention.

If they were to compete, it would be at the highest difficulty.

When going against an enemy known for speed, of course, she had to test her spell casting speed and move speed!

“Does a level 9 Wanderer have the ability to fly?” Mu Ying asked.

“No,” Atom replied helplessly, “If you take to the skies, I can only hit you with my hand crossbow.”

Skill-based professions were disadvantaged in this way, lacking any flight-related abilities to date. For the Wanderer profession, there wasn’t even flight ability until at least level 14, otherwise, Clan Leader Ned wouldn’t have needed Mu Ying’s giant vine and magic to approach the Fishman Priest during the assault on the Fishman Village.

Mu Ying decided not to use any flying spells or related abilities. It was a limited sparring match, after all; she didn’t need to rely on air superiority to win.

The purpose of sparring wasn’t to win, but to test one’s abilities and improve one’s combat skills.

“Hold on, let me wash the poison off my weapons before we start,” Atom said, drawing the weapon at his waist.

“No need, a level 9 Druid has Poison Immunity Skill,” Mu Ying stopped him.

Others: “...”

Envy was an understatement.

“Then let’s begin!” Atom said.

Mu Ying nodded her head.

As soon as the two entered the arena, they immediately created distance between them.

At the start of the duel, Mu Ying backed away quickly from Atom, rapidly casting spells upon herself.

In her human state, Mu Ying felt insecure without stacking Amplification Magic to its limit.

The magic routine was the usual one, starting with Stone Skin Technique, followed by Divine Movement Technique, then Enhanced Attributes, casting four in a row to enhance Strength, Constitution, Agility, and Perception.

Only the Spider Walk Skill was not used this time.

This set would cost her 65 Mana Value.

However, she couldn’t complete the spell casting smoothly, as Atom had been closing in on her rapidly from the beginning of the fight, moving so quickly that he became a blur.

As Mu Ying retreated, attending to her spell casting, her speed couldn’t match his sweeping advance, and the distance between them closed rapidly.

Stone Skin Technique was a fourth-tier spell; she wasn’t capable of instant casting, and she instantly judged that before she could complete her Stone Skin Technique, Atom would already be upon her.

She made a split-second decision, altering her spell-casting order, forgoing the Stone Skin Technique for now, instead casting Cloud Mist Technique.

A dense white fog spread out, covering the majority of the arena, swallowing the figures of both combatants.

Once the Cloud Mist Technique was released, Mu Ying quickly changed her direction, simultaneously casting Divine Movement Technique on herself to boost her speed.

Cloud Mist Technique and Divine Movement Technique were both first-tier spells, and Mu Ying was already proficient in casting them, completing the spells quickly.

His advance momentarily slowed upon his vision being obstructed, but Atom too quickly entered Stealth mode.

Although Mu Ying’s vision wasn’t affected by the fog, she lost track of him.

Losing sight of the enemy in combat is a terrifying thing, and Mu Ying felt her hair stand on end as if Atom could appear by her side at any moment and deliver a lethal blow.

Since she didn’t know his location, it could now only be a matter of time before he closed in on her.

Even though Atom was currently obscured by the cloud mist, he could still find her traces if he was close enough. All he needed to do was circle within the mist, and he would see her.

At this moment, rather than continue moving and avoiding him, it would be better to take advantage of the time bought by the Cloud Mist Technique to stack spells on herself, increasing her own advantages, so when he truly drew near, she’d have more chances to resist.

However, just in case her luck was particularly bad and Atom found her right away, Mu Ying quickly blessed herself, hoping he would find her position later.

The Blessing Magic was cast in an instant, and just as she was preparing to channel natural power to cast her Tree Skin Skill on herself, she suddenly felt a chill on her neck.

Looking down, she saw a dagger at her throat.

Mu Ying: “...”

Little Red wanted to transform into armor to protect her neck and retaliate with a stab, but she stopped it.

There was no need for Little Red to intervene if they were not fighting in earnest.

Moreover, Little Red’s thorns were too cunning; once they penetrated skin, they would curl up inside the flesh, and pulling them out would rip away a chunk of meat.

Even if Little Red didn’t act, the Guardian Armor on her body could protect her.

A common poisoned dagger was far from being able to break through the defense of her Guardian Armor.

But continuing the fight was meaningless as well; it wasn’t her intention to compete with Atom on defense.

Mu Ying sighed, “I lost!”

Indeed, faced with a top-speed opponent, her spell-casting ability was greatly restricted; she might not even have time to cast a spell.

Atom put down the dagger in his hand.

Mu Ying was just puzzled by one thing, “How did you find my position so quickly?”

She had just finished blessing herself when she was discovered—could it be that the Blessing Magic didn’t take effect?

“Your movements were quite noisy, and the white mist wasn’t that extensive, so I quickly locked onto your position,” Atom said.

Mu Ying understood.

When she moved in the wild, her steps were silent thanks to her Forest Traversing and Traceless Step skills, plus the natural sounds of the wilderness, so she neglected the noise of her footsteps.

But this was in the quiet underground, where any sound could give away one’s position.

Reflecting on the duel that had ended, she realized her performance was indeed poor and failed to demonstrate her full potential.

The sound of her moving was one thing, but losing sight of her opponent and choosing to equip herself with Stone Skin Technique wasn’t the only option.

She knew plenty of spells and could have used an area attack Magic to force him out of the Cloud Mist; for example, the tier-3 spell Snow Rainstorm could do it, and it had a quicker casting speed than Stone Skin Technique. Knowing his position, it would be easy to dodge around using the Cloud Mist Technique.

Besides, she could use the environment here, Melt into Stone to hide underground and wait for him to reveal himself first, or turn the surrounding ground into mud with Fossil to Mud, exposing Atom’s footprints and rendering his Stealth useless.

Illusion could also be used to create a false image of herself to mislead the opponent.

Now, as she thought about it, all sorts of ideas came to her, but this was after reviewing her Magic List and coming up with new strategies.

In the heat of battle, she didn’t have time to recall all her spells and make the best response.

She resorted to the battle routines she used most frequently.

Like casting a bunch of defensive and Amplification Magic on herself before battle and using the Cloud Mist Technique to conceal herself, these were habits she had developed in real combat.
