I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 530: 513: Prohibiting TankingChapter 530: Chapter 513: Prohibiting Tanking

Maeve’s mother went from being the Spring Water Goddess in the Big World to the Lake Goddess in the Small World. Her position level rose, the world hierarchy fell, but overall, it was still a slight improvement.

However, due to it being a Small World, her compensation might be a bit less than when she was serving as the Spring Water Goddess in the Big World, but it was all part of paying her dues.

Listening to Nicole’s account, Mu Ying felt more convinced that the Divine Race were indeed the chosen laborers, and that her family was truly impoverished.

The Divine Race are naturally endowed with an affinity for the Law, capable of mastering and maintaining its operations. Their starting point is extremely high, even the weakest Young God is stronger than the top-tier powerhouse of other Races.

It is this powerful Divine Race whose lives are quite boring, with the majority of Gods diligently working to accumulate a foundation, striving to elevate their living standards a bit higher.

With so many big and small worlds, and not a few dazzling civilizations, this colorful world certainly benefits enormously from the hard-working contributions of the Divine Race, for the Law is the foundation on which a world functions.

Though the Divine Race doesn’t need to eat, they still have a sense of taste, and fine wines and delicacies are also a source of enjoyment for them.

Though their bodies are so strong that they remain unaffected by any extreme conditions and don’t require a comfortable living environment, they possess an appreciation for beauty and pursue it, taking pleasure in comfortable and beautiful dwellings.

Under the stewardship of the Divine Race, each world develops in an orderly fashion, never lacking in fine wine, delicacies, beautiful landscapes, or creatures.

But these are things the Divine Race can only look at, not use, because their power level is too low.

It’s probably like how human beings before the apocalypse felt about dollhouses; they look very exquisite, but one can’t actually live in them.

The fine wines and delicacies they can enjoy require spending Divine Power Crystals to buy or using their own Divine Power to cultivate and make. The beautiful scenery and homes they can own need to be slowly crafted by enhancing their Divine Power. And from becoming an Apprentice God, the only way to improve one’s Divine Power is to labor for the Law.

After twenty thousand years of work, Maeve’s mother’s Divine Domain only had water and a few patches of grassland, with hardly anything else, not even blue apple trees for brewing wine—only seven of them.

Even the wine made from these trees couldn’t be enjoyed too frequently, most of it had to be sold to supplement the household expenses.

Everyday items were all created by condensing Divine Power, like the dwelling places.

Except for the Divine Domain, which is a unique manifestation of Divine Power, linked to the total amount of Divine Power and only gets better as Divine Power increases without the need to expend Divine Power to maintain it.

For everything else, be it planting trees, opening portals, constructing dwellings, or even sustaining life, it all requires consumption of Divine Power.

So, one must be frugal when using their own Divine Power to create things and dare not spend it excessively.

Although the expended Divine Power would slowly regenerate, there was only so much of it.

To say they were as poor as church mice was not an overstatement.

The Divine Race can die too. From the moment they become an Apprentice God, the natural increase of a god’s Divine Power stops, and it even begins to diminish naturally over time, with the reduction accelerating as time goes on.

When the rate of reduction surpasses their wages, the Divine Race will gradually weaken until death.

Generally, at this point, the Divine Race would prepare to resign and retire, depleting their principal until nothing remained and they returned to the cosmos, leaving nothing behind.

Maeve’s mother’s parents had retired ten thousand years ago after a diligent fifty-thousand years of work and returned to nature within ten thousand years of their retirement. Of course, if they had used up all the Divine Power Crystals they had saved up, perhaps they could have lived even longer, but they left all their Divine Power Crystals to their children.

Maeve’s mother also has an elder brother who is around four hundred thousand years old and serves as a River God, and an elder sister who is around two hundred thousand years old and acts as a Swamp Goddess.

Although the Divine Race does not face as many restrictions as witches when it comes to bearing children and can do so alone without gender constraints, having two Gods conceive together is less harmful. They can conceive once every two hundred thousand years; if conceiving alone, they have to wait four hundred thousand years before they can conceive again.

It was because her parents were no longer around that Maeve’s mother wanted to conceive a child of her own, to have new kin.

Mu Ying had initially been full of longing for the power of the Divine Race, even feeling that the Innate Divine Race of this world had a larger scale and a more complete system than the Acquired Gods of the real world!

Now, she only felt that the Divine Race was quite tragic, as long-lived as they might be, but there weren’t many good things to enjoy. Their entire lives consisted of toiling for the Law, striving to increase their worth and boost their salaries. If their wages weren’t high, or if they weren’t high enough, they would gradually be phased out and face extinction. Resigning was as good as accepting death.

Not a single chance to slack off, as doing so was akin to suicide.

The Divine Race worked for the world’s Laws, and in return, they received some Divine Power. When the Gods could no longer continue their duties and perished, what they had acquired throughout their lives dissipated into the world and returned to nature.

The Divine Race suffered great losses while the world always profited.

Mu Ying had probably seen the end of her trial in the World of Gods.

She reckoned that once the Divine Power she earned from her work could no longer keep up with the rate at which her Divine Power was eroded and her overall Divine Power began to decrease, it was about time for her to transform her Divine Body and Divine Soul, strengthening her real-world self.

She didn’t need to think about conceiving a Young God anymore. Even though there was a subsidy equivalent to a Middle-level God’s term, which was very substantial, it would take ten to twenty thousand years for a Young God to grow up to work, and the cost was likely to be much higher.

It turned out she wasn’t in the World of Gods to enjoy divine life, but to work with her life on the line.

However, after she finished her work, she wouldn’t be giving everything back to the boss. She would be able to take her “money” and run away, which wasn’t too bad.

Once Mu Ying knew that the Divine Race in the World of Gods and other non-divine power Races and materials were segregated, and that goods weren’t interchangeable, she realized that she could no longer think of enjoying a comfortable and happy existence in her trial in the World of Gods. She could only work honestly, try to go further, and ensure that she took more with her when she left.

Her anticipation for this world suddenly diminished considerably, and although she wasn’t sleepy, she didn’t want to continue inquiring, “Nicole, I want to go back to sleep.”

“Tired? After the initial deep sleep, a Young God should be able to stay awake for at least a year,” Nicole said with some worry, afraid that her young Master might have some physical issues.

Mu Ying shook her head, “I’m not sleepy, but I want to sleep deeply, to grow up faster. Didn’t you say that I would digest Divine Power more quickly during deep sleep?”

After all, the information she wanted to know was contained in the Divine Race inheritance package— the Inheritance Seed— that she would receive in a hundred years. This general knowledge was quick to understand and master, and it was more detailed and clearer. There was no need to get it all clear now.

With the time on hand, it was better to get more sleep. While sleeping deeply, her body would grow faster. Maybe she could consume all the Divine Power in her hair before her hundredth year and take the Talent test ahead of time!

“Are you sure you’re not sleepy? Don’t you want to go and play for a bit more?” Nicole asked for confirmation once again.

Mu Ying nodded her head and entered her residence, lying down on the small water bed and falling into a deep sleep.
