I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 516: 499: Frog in the WellChapter 516: Chapter 499: Frog in the Well

The quill danced gracefully on the paper as Mu Ying sat at a distance, enjoying her steamed bun, while others crowded around the paper, examining the freshly penned contents.

“Source Power trading scale? Special Trial World? Multiverse City? Trial Center? Fortune’s Wheel? Types of Trial Worlds? Multiverse Ten Thousand Worlds Trial competition? Trialist slots?”

The amount of information on the paper was overwhelming; each new term filled them with curiosity, slowly unveiling a corner of the broader world before them.

Mu Ying did not keep any secrets, sharing nearly all the information she had obtained.

Her goal was to become a God with high-level Divine Power, and everything depended on her Mother Star. The extent to which the Mother Star could develop was directly linked to the Source Power they could earn in the Ten Thousand Worlds Trials.

That’s why she hoped that the trialists from Deep Blue Star would all have better development opportunities.

The others knew far less about worlds beyond Deep Blue Star, so their initial shock at this new information was even greater.

“Mu Ying ran around all day, from the outermost ring of Multiverse City to the central Trial Center. How vast must Multiverse City be!”

“With Multiverse City being so large, how many trialists must there be who’ve opened up the Third Trial World?”

“Within the Multiverse, the Life Planet with the most trialists has fewer than a hundred existing trialists; all others with more than fifty trialists are rare, including those who haven’t entered Multiverse City. With that in mind, just how vast is the entire Multiverse? How many Life Planets like Deep Blue Star are out there, and how many splendid civilizations?”

“Beyond the Multiverse, how many universes under the Ten Thousand Worlds Trial exist?”

“Outside the bounds of the Ten Thousand Worlds Trial, could there be even more unexplored territories?”

These questions hovered in everyone’s minds.

Li Luoxia sighed, “I thought myself quite remarkable—a divorced woman in her thirties with children, securing the sixth rank globally during Doomsday, even though my territory was temporarily ruined by ice and snow. But now, realizing that Deep Blue Star is just a drop in the ocean, and that we are even less special, the world seems immense. Are there more threats like Cold Deer that we simply haven’t faced yet? Suddenly, I feel so insignificant, even more so than I felt as an ordinary person, or even somewhat of a failure, before Doomsday.”

The others couldn’t help but sigh as well, their initial excitement largely dissipating into confusion.

When they first saw the new information, they were curious and eager to try.

But after really finishing it, thinking deeply about the underlying implications, their feelings completely shifted.

It was like falling from cloud nine—not to rock bottom, but to a much lower place nonetheless.

Everyone present, while not arrogant, had felt superior to others since the onset of Doomsday, managing crises with relative ease, confident in overcoming difficulties, driven by the belief that effort would surely secure whatever they desired.

Even Edwin and Chisima Keiko, who were lower on the global rankings, had their adventures and secured trialist slots early, distinguishing them from ordinary people.

In an online novel, each of them would be the protagonist.

Yet now, they couldn’t even compare to the countless trialists in Multiverse City.

There is always someone better, always a higher mountain.

Now, they faced a sea of such people, mountains beyond mountains. They were not protagonists, just one of many.

Their previous confidence in overcoming all challenges had suddenly taken a hit.

Mu Ying, seeing their glum faces, let out a laugh, “Seeing you like this cheers me up a bit, knowing I’m not the only one who felt a bit down when first encountering all this news!”

Seeing others in worse conditions indeed proved to be the best cure.

The others: “...”

Under the gaze of seven aggrieved pairs of eyes, Mu Ying uncomfortably touched her nose, “You all don’t need to worry too much. No matter what heights we can achieve, just focus on the present, steadily advancing forward. Even if we can’t reach the highest point, moving up a step will give us a better view, won’t it?”

“Yeah, as logical as that sounds, you’ve been in the first place for so long; haven’t you ever wondered why, since there’s always someone at the top, it can’t be you?” Maz asked her.

His desire to explore personal strength was incredibly strong; from the beginning of his appointment, he was determined to spend his life seeing the end of the Mage’s path, even decentralizing his territory just to carve out more time for cultivation.

Mu Ying, on the Druid’s path, must have had similar thoughts. Reaching this level required talent, passion, and effort.

“I’ve thought about it! I once wanted to be the first in the world, then the first in the Universe. Later, I only aimed for an Intermediate Divine Power Divine Position. My goals have become lower each time, similar to how as a child, when scoring first in class, others praised your studies and confidently proclaiming you’d attend the top universities, and as you grow up, you dare not say it as much.

Earlier confidence was due to inadequate understanding of the world; limited vision, broad gazing. Later, what appears as lack of confidence is just a clearer grasp of one’s own strength; this isn’t bad at all. We have the courage and confidence to aim for the top, yet also need the determination to strive upward even when we fall short.”

Moreover, sometimes it’s not about not being strong enough. Situations create heroes, and many external factors contribute. Challenges in attaining a high-level godly position also stem from current circumstances.

“If I had to choose between the chaotic conditions of the Ancient Era and the healthy competitive era now, I’d still choose the present,”

These were Mu Ying’s heartfelt thoughts.

She had once aspired to emulate the Great Sage Chen Mian, but she now understood she could almost certainly never reach his level.

However, this wouldn’t discourage her. Her struggle wasn’t merely to become the strongest but to protect herself and the people, things, and causes she cared about. Becoming the strongest was just one means to that end.

In a peaceful era, she didn’t need to be overly cautious; Intermediate Divine Power was enough for her to roam the Universe freely.

“Actually, knowing about this is a good thing, it helps everyone ground their lofty ideas. How far we go depends on us, not on how strong others are. After all, I don’t want to be the frog in the well; thinking you’re the strongest when you’re not doesn’t help anyone,” Atom unusually spoke at length.

“I’m thinking of delaying the opening of the Second Trial World, to explore the First Trial World a bit more thoroughly. Even if perfect exploration isn’t possible, we shouldn’t settle for less than 50%. A good foundation leads to many benefits!” Vinica said.

The others made similar decisions.
