I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 238 - 238 235 The Deviated Lantern Festival238: Chapter 235: The Deviated Lantern Festival 238: Chapter 235: The Deviated Lantern Festival Mu Ying couldn’t help but think that she really didn’t qualify as a diligent and responsible Lord.

Had it not been for the desire to make money, which led to the expansion of her territory so she could take care of the trees within its protective range and facilitate her Cultivation, she might have chosen to treat her territory as a private domain like Li Luoxia did at first, not opening it to the public.

She didn’t even need teammates; her approach might have been even more extreme than Li Luoxia’s.

It was only after discovering that upgrading the territory brought new functional facilities that could improve her Quality of life did she start to take it a little more seriously.

In reality, her main focus remained on herself.

She cared more about her own strength and the affair of Cultivation than about the territory, so even when the scale of the territory grew, she never thought of establishing a purely administrative staff, let alone winning over people’s hearts.

On the contrary, she spent more thought on the territory’s facilities and benefits, and even these were only implemented because they occasionally struck her fancy.

For example, the glass greenhouse, if it wasn’t for the impact on her Cultivation during the winter, she probably wouldn’t have thought of it.

Thinking about it seemed a bit guilty; Mu Ying touched her nose.

But she really didn’t want to worry about it, nor did she have the patience for those pompous formalities.

They might be effective, but they just weren’t her style.

At the end of the day, it was still a commoner’s mindset.

People should learn to accept themselves; Mu Ying admired those who diligently managed things, but she felt that she truly couldn’t do it.

So let it be; her original intention wasn’t bad at all.

Even if she, as a Lord, was a bit negligent in her duties, the current state of her territory was quite good, wasn’t it?

The organization was loose but free and relaxed; such an atmosphere was indeed rare.

Mu Ying understood this and felt relieved again.

Now night had fallen, and while Gungun and the Sky Wolves were still immersed in the New Year’s shows, Mu Ying teleported to the Undersea Corridor to play by herself.

As soon as she teleported there, she squinted her eyes.

She knew it wouldn’t be that easy.

Was this a lantern festival?

Or was it truly a sinister, bloody corridor?

The pitch-black seawater at night seemed like a lurking beast, exerting a strong oppressive feeling.

Every Glowing pearl in the Undersea Corridor was covered with a thin layer of blood-red Fluorescent Powder; Mu Ying looked closely and saw that indeed, a thin layer of red Fluorescent Powder had been applied.

Not to mention that it obscured some of the original light from the Glowing pearls, but the light also cast peculiar, blackish-red shadows over what seemed to be newly-made coral bonsai on both sides of the corridor.

It would have been acceptable if it were only the small pearls embedded in the corridor; after all, these pearls were small and emitted limited light.

But the mermaids really put in a lot of effort, using quite a few sizeable pearls to create various shaped lanterns.

Of course, these lanterns were also coated with bright red Fluorescent Powder, so the whole Undersea Corridor was a mix of red and black.

Every so often along the corridor hung white gossamer curtains, half rustling in the cold wind from an unknown source, and half undulating in the seawater.

As people walked through, they could only see the vague shadows through the sheer fabric.

The mermaids, wearing cross-collared, sheer immortal gowns, swam back and forth on the other side of the water.

However, the ethereal material of their clothes made things even more unsettling.

Despite being in various colors, the garments were all in light shades which, under the red light, resembled blood-soaked robes worn by ghostly figures flitting about, their laughter echoing occasionally.

The water barrier acted like a dividing line; on the seawater side, where the mermaids were, they wore new clothes, playing joyfully in the brightly-lit corridor, filled with satisfaction and excitement.

Mu Ying even heard a mermaid say, it was a shame that Xia Country loved red for New Year’s; the color scheme was still too monotonous.

“You’re so insightful, why didn’t you say so earlier?”

Just look at those players who cheerfully came to admire the lanterns in the water barrier area, but accidentally wandered into the haunted house.

Quite a few of them were screaming their heads off.

The high-pitched screams mixed with laughter, creating a strong contrast that sent shivers down the spine.

One player covered their eyes, peeking through just a sliver, trembling as they walked through the corridor, only to be bumped into by another player from behind the curtain, similarly covering their eyes with a limited view.

The one who did the bumping got a fright and whoosh, teleported away.

The one who got bumped turned around screaming, only to see curtains swaying without wind, scaring them half to death!

Mu White Wolf Ying passed by silently, witnessing all this mess.

“Wow, Lord, there’s a ghost!” A grown man nearly cried out of fear, shivering as he clung to her.

Mu Ying looked at him with disdain and, with a few jumps, ran off.

“Lord, wait for me!” The man kept calling out.

If you’re that scared, why not teleport away?

Isn’t teleporting free today?

This is the classic case of being noob but still loving to play.

Mu Ying walked on with her head held high, and honestly, although the lantern festival’s lights had gone awry, the sight of players screaming their lungs out was quite entertaining.

“Aoo!” Mu Ying suddenly felt something wet touch her tail.

“Hee hee!”

The voice was sharp, had an innocent cruelty about it, devoid of any emotion, filled with an eerie stillness, totally different from the mermaid’s previous laughter.

All the hair on Mu Ying’s body stood on end, and she jumped up like lightning, even tucking in her tail.

Even though she knew there couldn’t be any real ghosts, the unexpected touch and the spooky sound still made her jump out of reflex.

Turning around, she saw a pale face partially obscured by long hair, eyes with huge dark circles comparable to Gungun’s, a small mouth red as blood curving up slightly with no trace of laughter in the eyes, and two long sharp canines.

Two hands reached out towards her from the other side of the water barrier, clawing at her.

Mu Ying: “...”

Lily, why are you doing this to yourself?

Had she misunderstood?

Was the little mermaid not making a well-intentioned mistake but actually intentionally scaring people?

Otherwise, why would Lily be so adept at it?

“Give~me~back~my~life!” Another ghost girl emerged from behind the curtain, except her voice was laced with barely restrained laughter, as if she was about to burst.

The conviction and professionalism displayed in playing the ghost weren’t even close to Lily, that little mermaid, who even reached out to tug at her tail, although the water barrier was just for show, and she could easily pass through it.

Yet, she acted as though her body got stuck, struggling.

Next to this familiar ghost girl was a hangman, reluctantly performing his role, with a long piece of cloth sticking out of his mouth as a tongue, looking utterly despondent.

Mu Ying was left speechless once again.

Case closed, Lily must have been influenced by this culprit.

Otherwise, how could a little mermaid who knew nothing about the world learn to play ghost and scare people?

Mu Ying glanced at the sacrificial image of the forced hangman, and really wanted to say, sometimes you need to be a bit more cautious in choosing a girlfriend, otherwise...

the cloth piece gets all wet, doesn’t it feel uncomfortable?
