I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 207 - 207 204 Lingtian Reforms207: Chapter 204 Lingtian Reforms 207: Chapter 204 Lingtian Reforms Apart from the Magic Hut, Mu Ying was most concerned with the Dingling Flowers.

In the Emerald World, even without Dingling Flowers, using messengers to send messages was still viable, but in reality, messengers entering another camp outside their own territory would likely be shot down and eaten.

If the Dingling Flowers could be cultivated, they would certainly become the most representative specialty of the territory.

So, upon her return, she allocated a plot of land in the Plantation specifically for the cultivation of Dingling Flowers.

Having not returned for two or three days, Mu Ying checked the messages of the past two days while eating.

Nothing major had happened in the territory; the big news of the past two days was all concentrated in Lingtian Town.

The old leader had died suddenly, and the Lord Token had not been passed on, causing the upper echelons of Lingtian Town to fear that the territory was lost.

Initially, no one suspected Zhan Qing because he had been in the wilderness during that period, returning only on the day the old leader died, with no opportunity to see the old leader.

However, the matter of the Transmission Array was impossible to hide.

Zhan Qing even released a statement on the forum, declaring himself as the designated next Lord and previewed a series of reforms for Lingtian Town.

With the Lord Token in hand, his control over the territory was absolute.

Just as he and Mu Ying had previously suggested, he stayed out of the public eye completely, erecting a large bulletin board in the territory to announce measures and then implementing them one by one.

He also synchronized these measures to the forum, where they were flagged as hot topics.

“Reform Measures for Lingtian Town:

1.

The entire central management layer of the original territory is abolished, and all Local People are treated equally, with power granted based on contribution, including but not limited to exemption from entry fees, land use rights, and free housing rights.

2.

Establish a territory task department, where various construction tasks for the territory will be available, completion of which will earn money and contribution rewards.

3.

Abolish the relief center, and encourage all Local People to work hard for prosperity.

4.

Lower taxes and balance prices.

5.

Contract the Territory Shield to strengthen defense, with a daily entry fee of 5 copper coins.

The above measures will be implemented in three days, so please prepare accordingly.”

After reading this, Mu Ying had only one thought: Zhan Qing was taking a hard stance this time, aiming to cure all the chronic maladies in one fell swoop, using the most brutal surgery, which she estimated would be very painful.

As expected, the comment section was filled with complaints.

“By what right do you do this?

Lingtian Town is a democratic territory, even if you are the Lord, you can’t trample on people’s rights so recklessly!”

“Why suddenly charge entry fees?

Has Lingtian finally abandoned its kindness, deciding to wallow in the mire alongside those selfish territories?”

“Abolishing the relief center?

Do you want to starve thousands of disaster victims to death?

Before the apocalypse, the nation never gave up on a single disaster-stricken individual.

How could you be so cruel now?

And to think you were once a soldier!”

“Can’t afford the entry fee, can’t buy food, can’t pay the Transmission Array fee, can’t leave, can’t stay, where are we supposed to go three days from now?

Hang ourselves at the gates of Lingtian Town?

What meaning is there to keeping alive in this apocalypse.”

“Thief Zhan Qing, hand over the Lord Token!”

“Thief Zhan Qing, get out of Lingtian Town!”

...

These people who were bellowing were clearly those who felt their vested interests had been violated, attempting to use public opinion to make Zhan Qing compromise.

However, although there were many people in Lingtian Town, it didn’t amount to much on a global scale.

Those who were setting the tone were far fewer in number than the onlookers.

“Wow, big moves!

I’m considering whether or not to return to Lingtian.

I’m really fed up with the previous hypocrisy of Lingtian, which showed love for the people on the surface but was actually heavily bureaucratic and corrupt.

I’d rather slip away to a small camp nearby and grow there than slave away for the privileged class in Lingtian or bust my guts for those parasites who survive solely on relief food.

They’re just the higher-ups’ pet pigs, raised to show off their kindness, but the sad part is, the feed comes from scraping off the backs of us in the middle class.

Mark my words, if Lingtian truly implements what’s stated in the regulations, I’ll pack up with my brothers and come back.

After all, a territory with a lord and a protective shield feels safer.”

“Is what’s said above true?

That’s terrifying; I used to envy Lingtian Town for not charging an entry fee!”

“It’s the apocalypse, and some people still want to maintain their status and privileges.

Well, they just crashed and burned, and I can’t help but laugh out loud!”

“Is your Lingtian Town copycatting our Mu Kid’s homework?

There’s resident classification and contributions again.

Did you pay the copyright fee or not?”

“You still have the nerve to speak up.

That cruel woman came to Lingtian Town and threatened us ordinary folks with a whip.

Zhan Qing must’ve been bewitched by her to come up with all these changes.

Don’t you think you owe us an explanation?”

“As someone who’s been suffocated by the high prices in Lingtian Town, I almost cried when I saw the clause about reducing taxes and stabilizing prices.

P.S.: The ordinary folk mentioned above are those who eat relief food and still expect free winter clothes.

Now we know that our extra money has been going to support them.

It’s infuriating!”

“Lord is mighty, whip those bastards.”

Mu Ying sometimes really felt that the people of her territory were quite adept at confronting others in forums; it was quite satisfying to watch.

Counting the time, tomorrow seemed to be the third day mentioned in the notice.

The excitement in Lingtian Town still had much to unfold.

The next day, while she had breakfast, she opened the forum to check again.

Lingtian Town had actually shrunk its territory to the edge of the original tent area.

Those living in makeshift shacks outside were now directly outside the Territory Shield.

Without paying the entry fee, they couldn’t even enter the territory to make a fuss, though they had originally planned to unite and protest today, refusing to move.

But those still inside the territory, people from the tent area, weren’t affected at all.

Those who paid 5 copper coins remained unaffected, and then when they went to buy breakfast, they really found that the prices had significantly dropped, and after rounding up, they actually spent even less.

Moving further in, those living in residential houses who normally paid rent found that the rent had been substantially reduced, while those who used to live for free by privilege were evicted unless they paid.

The original center of the territory was completely sealed off.

The income of the territory was still there, but no one else could touch it.

Those who had taken a cut of the benefits from the income of the territory saw their gains repossessed in an instant, vanishing without a trace.

Many “respectable people” surrounded Zhan Qing’s house, sternly criticizing him for seizing the residents’ property.

Zhan Qing did not show up but simply threw them out of the territory.

They wanted to pay to come back in, only to find that because they disturbed the order of the territory, they were banned from reentering for three days.

Inside the Lingtian Territory, it suddenly became much quieter and desolate, but those who remained felt hope and had something to strive for.

In the newly established Territory Task Center, there were missions to collect wood, stone, clean the territory, and build houses, all with monetary and contribution rewards.

This contribution could also be spent within the territory, which roughly equated to not charging an entry fee.

It seemed that as long as one was willing to work, not fighting for their life outside, one could live well; that was the stability people in the apocalypse begged for.
