I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 228 - 228 225 Fairy Mu Ying228: Chapter 225 Fairy Mu Ying 228: Chapter 225 Fairy Mu Ying At midnight, when the nearby people were all deep in slumber, Mu Ying stored the carriage inside the ring and rode the flying carpet toward the Royal Palace.

The flying carpet could shield itself from human sight, so there was no need to worry about being discovered.

After a painstaking search around the Royal Palace Castle, she finally located the Queen’s quarters—the most spacious room at the very top of the castle.

Mu Ying changed into an off-white Flowers Skirt, the hem and cuffs embroidered with floral patterns, and her hair returned to its natural color.

She wore no shoes or stockings, her feet bare.

Then she switched from the flying carpet to the flying broom, casually side-sitting on the broom while letting it hover a distance away from the balcony.

At last, she took out a seed of the Lamp Vine and quickly spurred its growth, letting it twine around the flying broom, followed by buds forming all over the Lamp Vine.

The partially bloomed Lamp Vine was like a series of small flower lamps surrounding her, making her look as though she was sitting on a glowing vine, completely disguising the broom.

Even the Magic Wand was modestly adorned with a bit of vine by Mu Ying.

Mu Ying checked her preparations and thought she looked imposing enough.

At that moment, she understood those outside who planned to apply for the position of Fairy Godmother.

Sometimes, to gain trust, one really had to put effort into one’s appearance.

Shaking her head to clear these messy thoughts, she lightly pointed her Magic Wand at the Queen’s room, and a cluster of pink and white roses by the Queen’s bedside grew rapidly, the flowers sweeping gently before the Queen’s nose.

“Achoo~” the Queen sneezed and opened her eyes to see a rose in motion.

She wasn’t scared but found it amusing.

As a child, the Fairy Godmother often used flowers, plants, and small animals to secretly assist her; to her, these things were conscious, possessed souls.

“Is the Fairy Godmother back?”

The rose’s leaves simultaneously pointed toward the balcony.

“Over there?” The Queen’s heart leapt with joy, but she still maintained the etiquette of the Royal Palace.

She was no longer that struggling yet free country girl.

After opening the curtains of the balcony, instead of the familiar Fairy Godmother, she saw a young girl seated on a flower, her demeanor tranquil and gentle, like a true fairy of the flowers, and the flower vine was floating in the air.

The Queen was sure she had never met her before, “Who are you?”

Mu Ying took out the wildflower given to her by the Fairy Godmother, letting it float in front of the Queen, “This is from your Fairy Godmother, sent for you.”

Seeing the flower, the Queen immediately recognized it from the hillside outside of Flower Town, so far away, yet the flower was still fresh; she immediately believed it.

But it wasn’t just the flower that convinced her, but a prophecy from the godmother had predicted it, “A familiar wildflower will come at midnight, the person bringing it will resolve your current distress, you can trust her.”

Mu Ying thought the flower must hold some special significance for her to believe so easily.

“Fairy, may I ask for your help with something?” said the Queen.

Although Mu Ying was dressed this way, part of it was to borrow the reputation of the Fairy Godmother, being called a fairy still made her slightly uncomfortable, “You can call me Mu Ying.”

“Alright, Fairy Mu Ying, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but my newborn daughter needs a Fairy Godmother to protect her as she grows.

Would you be willing to be my daughter’s godmother?”

The Queen’s most pressing concern at the moment was the selection of a genuine Fairy Godmother.

The fairy before her was highly skilled in magic and had been recommended by her own godmother, making her the most suitable candidate.

Mu Ying shook her head, “I do not plan to settle down anytime soon and cannot assume the responsibilities of a godmother.

However, I can help you select a real fairy, but the final decision on whether they can be the godmother will still be yours to make — and I have one condition.”

“What condition?” The Queen had not expected her refusal, but having her help weed out those pretending to be fairies was indeed a blessing, as fairies can always recognize their own kind.

“I enjoy listening to stories, so your part of the bargain is, you need to tell me your own true story,” Mu Ying said, guessing that stories told by the person themselves would be fairly close to the truth.

“Tell a story?”

What kind of price was that?

It seemed that Fairy Mu Ying was indeed sent by the godmother to help her.

The Queen immediately agreed and invited Mu Ying to stay at the Royal Palace.

“No thank you, I will temporarily reside by the lake outside the city.

On the day we select the Fairy Godmother, have all the candidates come to find me there.

Those who can locate my residence are surely real fairies,” Mu Ying stated.

This method was the simplest; once the Magic Hut’s shielding function was activated, no one but a witch could find her.

“All right, may I bring my children to visit you a bit earlier?

They have never seen a real fairy and are quite curious about it,” the Queen added.

“You may,” Mu Ying agreed, knowing that the King and Queen would also be invited to observe the selection process.

“Come to the lakeside a bit earlier on the day of the selection, and I will guide you in.”

Then, Mu Ying, controlling her broom, slowly drifted into the night sky and, in an instant, vanished completely.

The next day, when the Queen woke up, if it were not for the wildflower from Flower Town beside her pillow, she might have thought the previous night’s events were just a dream.

...

Several days later, during the selection for the Fairy Godmother, the square at the entrance of the Royal Palace was bustling with fairy candidates and spectators.

The palace gates opened wide, and the King’s attendant announced, “The first challenge for the Fairy Godmother selection is to find a fairy’s dwelling by the lake outside the city before dusk.

The King and Queen have already gone ahead; begin!”

“Find which fairy?

And she lives by the lake?

Has the Queen’s godmother returned?”

“I was there yesterday, there isn’t even a house by the lake, what dwelling is there?”

“What kind of test is this?

Shouldn’t it be testing magic?”

Unfortunately, regardless of their doubts and dissatisfaction, nothing could help them.

Having announced the challenge, the attendant returned to the palace.

Some quick-witted people had already started running towards the city outskirts.

The lake outside the city, although vast, had a clear view, and if there truly was a fairy living there, the earliest to arrive would definitely have a head start.

Perhaps it was a test of energy?

In fact, most of the “fairy” candidates were not imposters; many believed they possessed magical powers.

This was mainly because although the tale of the Fairy Godmother was popular in the Rose Kingdom, most people had never actually seen a real fairy.

Their understanding of fairies came from wildly inaccurate rumors, such as being able to conjure objects, making plants flourish, or creating beautiful clothes.

Thus, a cognitive dissonance existed.

Those who performed magic thought they were practicing Immortal Law, and skillful gardeners and tailors could also develop delusions.

The crowd surged toward the outskirts, while at that time, the King and the Queen, along with their soon-to-be adult son and their daughter still in swaddling clothes, were sitting in an unremarkable carriage, arriving at the lakeside outside the city.
