Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Chapter 44: Chapter 40 Not Just a Bodyguard, But Also a Divine Doctor

Zhao Rong saw the bald man with spikes embedded in his fist, writhing in pain on the ground. He chuckled and said, ”Baldy, I, Zhao Rong, may not have as high a cultivation level as you, but I know how to adapt and use what’s at hand. Consider this cactus a little welcoming gift from me.”

Before Zhao Rong could even finish, the bald man on the ground, his hand pierced with spines, let out a few wails and then simply expired. Seeing the arrogant man die so easily left Zhao Rong completely dumbfounded.

Just as Zhao Rong was wondering why Baldy had died, Four-eyes, the student who had teased Yu Lan earlier, spoke up, his voice filled with lingering fear. ”Damn, I didn’t expect Zhao Rong to be so ruthless! He must have known that every cactus in our True Martial Sect is coated in deadly poison. Using it to stab Baldy... wasn’t that a clear death sentence?”

A short man nicknamed Bench Dog added, ”This Zhao Rong is clearly no pushover. We’d better show him some respect from now on, lest we end up dead like Baldy.”

A delicate-featured student remarked, ”No wonder he can hang around with three top-tier beauties. Turns out he’s a dangerous character.”

Listening to their discussion, Zhao Rong finally understood that the potted cactus on the windowsill was poisonous. He looked at the bald man on the ground, who was foaming at the mouth and had clearly died in agony, and said, ”Ah, if I’d known the cactus was poisonous, I never would have used it to block his fist.”

Hearing this, the students’ eyes went wide with a newfound understanding. ”This Zhao Rong has a high EQ and IQ for sure. He definitely saw the ’HIGHLY POISONOUS’ warning sign right next to the cactus, but he’s still pretending he saw nothing.”

”Now *that’s* what you call a badass. He offs Baldy and doesn’t even take credit.”

Hearing their comments, Zhao Rong took a closer look. Sure enough, next to the cactus pot was a small sign that read: *Highly Poisonous. Do Not Approach.*

At that moment, Lili looked at him with admiration. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you’re so amazing. It’s true what they say: a great man must be ruthless.”

Zhao Rong replied with a look of regret, ”My eyes are small, I honestly didn’t see it. If I’d known the cactus was poisonous, I wouldn’t have used it.”

”You’re incredible, Brother Zhao Rong,” Yu Lan chimed in. ”Killing without leaving a trace.”

”Brother Zhao Rong, do you know why I like you?” Xuelian went even further. ”It’s because you’re ruthless, precise, and swift.”

Hearing the awe and praise from everyone around him, Zhao Rong scratched the back of his head, completely at a loss.

Just then, the assistant who had been smashed against the wall began to stir. He opened his eyes, spitting blood as he called out, ”Yu Lan... Yu Lan...”

Seeing him awake, Zhao Rong and the three women rushed to his side. The assistant was barely clinging to life. He grabbed Zhao Rong’s hand and gasped, ”Big Brother, I’m not going to make it. Honestly, I’m not afraid to die, but I have one last regret. If I can fulfill this wish, I’ll die with no regrets.”

Looking at the assistant, who seemed moments from death, Zhao Rong said worriedly, ”Assistant, tell me your regret. If I, Zhao Rong, can help you, I’ll do it right now.”

The assistant’s face, already twisted in pain, managed a pained smile. ”I want to kiss... Yu Lan... just once...”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong didn’t think it was a big deal and turned to Yu Lan. ”Yu Lan, you probably know the assistant has always had a crush on you. He’s about to die. Just let him kiss you.”

Yu Lan looked at the assistant’s blood-streaked face, a man she utterly despised. ”Forget it,” she said coldly. ”Just hurry up and die. I really don’t want you to kiss me.”

When the assistant heard that Yu Lan wouldn’t even grant his dying wish, his despair deepened, and he seemed to slip even closer to death. ”Yu Lan,” he whispered, tears of sorrow streaming down his face, ”I loved you in life, and I’ll love you in death.”

Seeing a dying man cry, Zhao Rong’s heart softened. ”Yu Lan, please, just grant him this one wish.”

Pressured by Zhao Rong, Yu Lan finally relented. ”Fine, he can have a kiss, but it has to be relayed.”

”What do you mean?” Zhao Rong asked, surprised.

”It means someone has to kiss me first, and then kiss him,” she explained. ”I really don’t want to kiss him directly.” Before he could react, Yu Lan leaned in and gave Zhao Rong a quick kiss on the lips. ”There. My kiss is on your lips now. If the assistant wants it, he’ll have to kiss you.”

Zhao Rong stood there, stunned. I’ve lived all these years, and this is the first time I’ve ever been forced to kiss a man.

The assistant was now semi-conscious, his eyes fluttering as he mumbled, ”Yu Lan... kiss me... Yu Lan... kiss me...”

Whatever, I’ll just get it over with, Zhao Rong thought with resignation. He puckered his lips, preparing to transfer Yu Lan’s kiss to the assistant.

Though he had steeled himself, as his lips drew near the assistant’s, he was hit by a wave of foul breath so strong it made him gag. Unable to turn away in time, Zhao Rong vomited all over the assistant’s face.

Suddenly, the assistant, who had been on death’s door just a moment before, bolted upright. ”What the hell?! If you don’t want to kiss me, you don’t have to pull a disgusting prank like this! You vomited all over me!”

Zhao Rong was utterly stupefied to see the nearly-dead man suddenly full of life and jumping around. Was he faking it? No, that can’t be right. An ordinary person with no cultivation would be dead or crippled after a hit from a level-eleven cultivator’s meteor hammer. So how did he recover so suddenly?

Then, Zhao Rong felt a warmth spread from his chest. He realized his Dragon Crystal was releasing energy. That’s it! he thought, touching the warm crystal in his clothes. It must be the Dragon Crystal’s miraculous power. That’s what saved the assistant from the brink of death.

While Zhao Rong understood what had happened, the women around him did not. They were convinced the assistant had faked his own death just to steal a kiss. Enraged, the three of them began to curse him out. But scolding wasn’t enough to quell their anger. Yu Lan, feeling he had been utterly despicable to use such a sordid trick, broke a leg off a nearby stool. In front of the entire class, she proceeded to beat the assistant mercilessly with it.

The most miserable person in the room was, by far, the assistant. He tried to explain dozens of times that he hadn’t been faking it, but not a single person believed him.

Meanwhile, when the other classmates saw the assistant had been revived, they all gave Zhao Rong a thumbs-up. They didn’t think the assistant had been pretending, because they knew how powerful Baldy had been. They were certain it was Zhao Rong’s miraculous healing ability that had brought the assistant back to life.

In that moment, everyone’s perception of Zhao Rong was rewritten. To them, he was no longer just a vicious character who struck without mercy, but also a Divine Doctor capable of bringing the dead back to life.
